Chapter 524: Chapter 426 Gospel Extra_3
"Yes," Hanna blinked, "you care so much, do you usually tutor her with her homework? How could it be so bad?"
"I, I have tutored her..." Ash was on the verge of a breakdown: "She said she was too lazy to do it; I even ended up doing her math homework for her..."
After a brief silence, Harvey was the first to stand up, "I’m full, so I’m off to work now."
"I’m full too."
"Ash, do you need help with the dishes?"
"No need." Ash nibbled on his egg and bacon sandwich gloomily, muttering, "Although it’s been a few years since I graduated, it shouldn’t be like this..."
After Banjee and the others left, Hanna went over to hug Liss, then hugged Ash from behind.
"Does it really have to be like this?!"
"I am the head of the family, hugging you before I leave is to add weight to you, don’t be ungrateful!" Hanna held on to the hug, turning it into a full nelson, and started roughhousing with Ash early in the morning.
When they all went to work, Ash started cleaning up the dishes, saying, "Study time starts in half an hour."
"Yay!" Liss cheered, "Then let’s play ’Mage Duel 14’!"
"After I finish the dishes."
Yes, Ash’s job was essentially a house guard and a nanny.
There were two reasons for this: Firstly, Liss couldn’t be left alone at home, someone needed to be there; and secondly, Ash simply couldn’t go out and show his face.
Although makeup or even a Miracle could change appearances, as Hanna and the others did, the problem was that Ash’s "Twisted Mask" was a permanent effect, no matter how he changed, he would always wear the mask.
Wearing a mask even during work, anyone with a bit of sense could tell something was off; consequently, Ash gloriously stayed at home.
After the dishes, and playing games with Liss, Ash began his official duties.
Washing clothes with the washing machine, drying them with the dryer, dragging the ironing board to a sunny spot to press and iron each piece one by one; sweeping and mopping the floors, cleaning the spotless bathroom, disinfecting the toilet; wiping the windows, making the beds for everyone, taking out the trash...
All these were tasks for a Substitute.
Ash was sitting next to Liss, supervising her studies, while also studying about the Void Realm, Magic Faction, and related biological knowledge.
After more than two hours, when Liss turned her head to sneak a peek for the 13th time, Ash closed the Gospel Book, "Let’s go out and buy some stuff."
"Yay!"
Ash put on his hooded coat and, holding Liss’s hand, left the apartment building.
Though it was called a chaotic area, over the years a certain order had formed; otherwise, there wouldn’t be a normal working environment. The area where they now resided was known as the ’Salome District’, because the company responsible for maintaining order here was Salome.
Hospitals, pet stores, restaurants, coffee shops, balance car dealerships, grocery stores... these types of stores might have been integrated into online shopping in other cities, but in Fidel, they still clung to life.
Ash led Liss to a supermarket, where the lavish décor was very imposing and modern, making it obviously impossible to steal anything.
Passing the snack and dessert section, Ash covered Liss’s eyes, "Don’t look, don’t look, we only have 73 coppers, we can’t afford this."
Passing by a discounted fat desserts section, Liss covered Ash’s eyes, "Don’t look, don’t look, we only have 73 coppers, we can’t afford to eat this."
After some careful calculation and tasting sessions, Ash and Liss returned home with large and small bags.
After a simple lunch, Ash dragged a carpet to the edge of the balcony and lay there lazily with Liss.
By the time they woke up, it was almost three o’clock, and Ash urged Liss to quickly get back to studying, letting the Substitute start handling the ingredients, while he lay down for a bit longer.
After 4 pm, Banjee was the first to return, heading straight to the kitchen to help; then came Igula, enveloped in a fragrant aroma, surely having conned money from many women; followed by Hanna, commanding Ash to take off her silk stockings with unruly bravado; Harvey was the last, coming back all dusty and being sent directly to the bathroom to shower.
The noisy sounds of the apartment building came with the night, the poor sound insulation not affecting Fidel’s symphony at all. Downstairs, people were drinking and arguing, upstairs, someone was walking in high-heeled boots, and across the building, lights came on, seemingly someone watching a movie while having dinner.
The dark forest of Fidel gradually brightened up. Although it couldn’t compare to big cities like Azura or Mongfera that provided centralized lighting, those lights hidden in residential houses indeed brought a sense of warmth.
The Funeral six sat around the table, and once Harvey finished his shower and sat down, Hanna declared, "We can start dinner now."
"Waiting for everyone before announcing dinner" was a very important step, according to Hanna, it could increase their happiness index by 5%. But in Ash’s view, this was just a ritual added by Hanna to emphasize that she was the head of the family.
This was just another day for Funeral, and possibly the most ordinary time they had since coming to the Gospel. Temporary from being chased, their personal safety unrestricted, everyone was less guarded... Surrounded by the steam of hot soup, it seemed even time itself turned gentler, making Ash almost forget about things like the Weaving Festival, Divine Lord’s wishes, or the Apocalypse arriving.
Until the Gospel Book suddenly popped open on its own.
That glowing bookmark very strongly announced a significant piece of good news to everyone.
"The Gospel..." Hanna muttered, "Updated?!"
