Chapter 471: Chapter 388: Wanting to be Belladett’s Dog
Mental anguish compensation.
This boring fantasy, considered by Ash to be as nonexistent as "weekly team building", came to him for the first time—the problem was, he was the one who had to pay it.
The charges were based on "When Mr. Igula insulted Ms. Yvalin, you all remained silent and did not intervene, hence it’s considered that you partook in the group bullying of Ms. Yvalin."
Working-class bullying the capitalists, Ash wanted to clap for the healthy legal construction of the Gospel. More terrifyingly, after spending 1 Gospel Point for enquiry, he found that this was indeed how the Gospel judged the situation.
However, this was a civil case, and the Gospel would not pursue it unless the public did, and even if it did, it was not of big significance. Although the victim could make reasonable demands on the perpetrator, if the perpetrator didn’t comply, the most the Gospel would do was reduce their rating a little—compared to the Blood Moon which placed great emphasis on human rights and free speech, the Gospel was surprisingly lenient with freedom of speech, unless it really caused a significant social impact.
Because the Blood Moon prohibits racism, sexism, and educational discrimination, it is because they are actually discriminating; on the other hand, the Gospel doesn’t care about public opinion because the people don’t bear much malice, or hide it very deep. A momentary rant or verbal abuse doesn’t get celebrated but rather, gets rationally criticized and educated, pushing out the bad by the good coin.
Although Ash and his friends had only traveled to parts of the Gospel, from the cities of Azura, Vatican Mura, and Mongfera, they no longer expected to encounter PvP zones in the Gospel.
Other realms might still have ’shadows not reached by sunlight’, but here, the Gospel literally meant ’the glory of the Gospel is everywhere’.
Mouthing off wouldn’t incur serious punishments, but that was only for the common people.
Now that Ash and his friends were in the hands of Belladett, this little bit of mental anguish was her scout breaking through their psychological defenses. If Ash dared refuse to pay compensation, he should prepare to dream tonight of becoming Miss Belladett’s Husky.
Of course, Ivylin couldn’t make excessive demands either, as the Gospel was fair and just, thus this detestable blue-haired dwarf made a small request: besides Liss, Ash and Harvey had to wear weights all afternoon as a sign of their apology.
She spared Liss not out of respect for the old and love for the young, but because the Gospel had a minor protection act, and Liss was still just a child. A simple apology was enough, as adults shouldn’t quarrel with children.
Yet, as the official guardian, Liss’s share also accumulated on Ash’s shoulders—double weight.
As for Igula, Ash dared not imagine the torment he was going through, although Igula’s most valuable asset was his appearance, perhaps a sacrifice of looks was in order...Damn, suddenly he couldn’t feel any schadenfreude.
"Huff... ha huff..."
Wearing double body weight and cleaning, Ash was so tired he almost vomited, his hand holding the cloth too heavy to lift; he felt like just lying down to rest, but he forced himself to stand and moisten the cloth to continue cleaning the dust inside the statues.
Although no one supervised Ash’s work, he didn’t dare slack off, as by taking on the cleaning task, he effectively entered into a Contract with Yvalin: Ash would complete the work, and Yvalin would pay him in shell points.
In theory, Ash could slack off and earn Yvalin’s money, exploiting the capitalist Belladett inversely.
But the issue was, just because no one supervised Ash didn’t mean the Gospel or the Void Realm didn’t either.
Belladett wasn’t the scary part; the terrifying thing was the iron fist behind her.
"The words ’do not take any advantage of Belladett’" also applied to all employees working for Belladett; if Ash only took the salary without working, it also amounted to a violation of the labor Contract. He would still have to open up his Spirit to Yvalin, thinking that very soon he would unknowingly overspend, buying the ultimate divine weapons and pigging out, then thinking being a dog might not be so bad.
Speaking of which, there were way too many statues in this main house... Ash was wiping down a statue of a Female Mage holding a Magic Wand, an image from some medieval Fairy Tale, and there were many more covering various races and factions. Ash even saw a Meiwa dressed much like a Holy Knight— it seemed the Belladett family had a hobby of collecting.
While Ash strenuously cleaned the crevices of the Female Mage statue, because of his excessive body weight, he accidentally bumped into the water bucket beside him, spilling water everywhere, adding insult to injury for the already hard-working laborer.
The Cult Leader sighed, kneeled down, and started wiping the marble floor.
But while wiping, suddenly someone appeared before him. Ash looked up and saw a girl with wine-red, fragmented hair dressed in a Deacon’s robes also kneeling to wipe the floor.
Noticing Ash’s gaze, she smiled and said, "It’ll be quicker if we both wipe together, right?"
"Your own work?" Ash was a bit surprised. This was his designated work area, and usually, servants wouldn’t roam elsewhere except for using the restroom, not just because they were busy, but because they didn’t have the ideaigned to ’be lazy’ or ’mingle’ to lower work efficiency.
"My job is to patrol the main house and help everyone complete their tasks," the red-haired girl said. "You’re new here, right?"
"Hm?" Ash currently wasn’t wearing the ’evil spirits coat’, but the twisted mask was mandatory whether he wore it or not, so it was quite easy to identify him. However, Yvalin had said that no one around the manor would pay them any attention, and Ash could only trust the power of the Dominion Faction, "Why would you think that?"
