Chapter 383: Travel and Travel Beyond Chapter Six: Nocturnal Discussions_2
"Another extremely important matter is the appearance of an angel in Haisas. It is not a Pate Envoy summoned through spells, but an angel existing in the Anriel World. This will greatly propel our temple’s cause and significantly boost the morale of the warriors on the frontline. Currently, this angel is traveling around with the mage, Lynch. I hope the Main Priest will instruct us soon on what action to take regarding this matter. I will closely monitor their whereabouts. —— Kuboert, Bishop of the Southern Pate Region."
After finishing the letter, Kuboert carefully checked it once more, sealing the sheet of paper into a common envelope with red wax using his ring. He muttered incantations over the envelope, granting it protection magic to keep it safe from rain and pests, as well as deter prying eyes.
"Immediately deliver this letter to the Holy Pate, into the hands of the Grand Priest," Kuboert said as he stepped outside, speaking to a Holy Temple Knight: "Guarantee with your own honor that no mistakes occur in transit!"
"The light of Pate will guide me, and my life will be dedicated to this sacred mission!" The knight took the letter, carefully placing it into a sealed leather pouch, secured it in the innermost layer of his armor, and turned away.
That night, two knights rode away swiftly, heading towards the Pate Empire in the north.
Meanwhile, Lynch, who had brought Zilvra and Soka back to the inn, was now in his mother’s room.
"Mom, you should move away from here," Lynch softly said, looking at his mother who sat slumped in a chair. "Haisas is no longer safe now."
Ailinsha gazed at her son standing before her, emotions overwhelming her heart. It had been ten years since he was taken away by his father. The child had slowly grown up. Though he had returned a few times, they hadn’t seen each other for the past seven years. Lynch always wrote to her, claiming that he was doing well, but as a mother, only seeing her child safe with her own eyes could truly put her at ease.
Just a few days ago, she received dreadful news that Lynch had died in Moon Harbor City. At that moment, it felt as if the entire sky had collapsed onto this lonely mother. Ailinsha lost the will to continue living several times; the only thing keeping her going was preparing a decent funeral for her child. Luckily, divine blessings granted a miracle — Lynch appeared alive on the day of the funeral, coming back to her, which made her indescribably joyful.
On the other hand, her son becoming a mage was beyond her expectations. She originally thought that Lynch had been taken by his father to serve as an attendant for some noble lord, to learn writing and counting, eventually becoming a steward, ensuring a lifetime free from worries about food and clothing. Even if he didn’t become a member of a noble household, he could return to manage this inn. Yet, unexpectedly, he became a mage. To her, this was akin to becoming a follower of the devil, a plague bringing calamity to the world.
"Child, why did you become a mage? Don’t you know the terrible harm people like them caused to the entire world in the past? They practically consorted with devils, accompanying evil, treating arrogance and pride as virtues, plunging the whole world into disaster. Why would you..." Ailinsha wiped away the tears from the corner of her eyes with her hand.
"Mom, mages aren’t really like that, they’re actually not..."
"Don’t say that!" Ailinsha interrupted Lynch, speaking earnestly: "Child, I know what you want to say. You want to defend those mages, right? But the more you do, the more you resemble a mage, rather than a person from Haisas, and the less you resemble the adorable son I had. Aren’t those just the arguments mages taught you?"
Ailinsha beckoned Lynch closer, letting her son come near as she touched his soft hair with her hand: "Child, I’m so glad you’re alive. When I could see you again, you don’t know how happy it made me. I prayed loudly to all the benevolent gods and even pleaded bitterly with the terrifying god of death, hoping to see you once more. Finally, a miracle occurred. I can see you, hear you, touch you again. Please, don’t leave anymore, alright? Don’t be a mage who goes around adventuring. Stay by my side. Although this small inn doesn’t earn much money, your return can surely bring it back to life. Child, this is your home!"
