Chapter 378: Travel and Travel Beyond Travel Chapter Five Family Feast
"Mages are not welcome in Haisas, and this is related to the war from a thousand years ago." Wislin began recounting the past.
Haisas was not originally an independent nation as it is now; it was once ruled by Mage Lords. During the Great Arcane Era, Haisas became famous for its abundant agricultural crops and exquisite handicrafts, and its mountains were rich with gemstones and minerals. Many Great Mages lived on this land, making it incredibly prosperous. At the time, Haisas was referred to as "Paradise" by people from other parts of the continent.
However, the war the Arcanists waged against the gods changed everything here. Located at the center of the continent, Haisas became the main battlefield, as controlling the nearby Five Realms Mountain Range meant strangling others’ throats. The Arcanists cast terrifying spells here, drawing energy from the fertile land to build a dreadful army of undead. This army tirelessly mined the once-rich mineral resources of Haisas, depleting all the great and small treasure mountains.
In the battle against the gods, many undead perished under Divine Power, and their tainted energy turned the land into a vast stretch of red soil. All the plants slowly withered away, as they could not absorb any nutrients from the gray-black soil; river water and well water became highly toxic, carrying traces of undead energy; plagues spread everywhere, and once infected with these mysterious diseases, there was nothing to do but sit and wait for death. The population of Haisas plummeted, with only a few fortunate souls escaping to the Underworld to avoid this catastrophe.
When the war ended, people who had left their homes for years gradually returned, only to see the ruins of destruction. It took hundreds of years for the influences of mages and the undead to slowly dissipate. Originally the base of the Arcanists, now not a single mage tower remained standing - after the ancestral land’s destruction, the enraged people leveled all buildings related to mages and declared that mages were a plague, capable only of bringing disaster.
In the stories told to children in Haisas, mages always appear as villains, like demons from hell or nightmares that destroy the world. In the hearts of the people of Haisas, the word ’mage’ forever represents terror and destruction.
On the entire Anriel Continent, this place is probably the most hostile to mages. From the people to their rulers, none have goodwill towards mages. There was once a decree here, "Mages, execute." Although hardly anyone could capture a mage in person, anyone associated with mages was not spared in Haisas.
"Now, you know why Lynch is angry." Wislin said, "Morgan and I are here to take his mother after the funeral. Otherwise, it’s very dangerous for her to live here alone."
Nimo nodded, finally understanding the situation. Although he was secretly worried, fearing things might take a turn for the worse, on the other hand, as long as Lynch was still around, he would surely find a way to solve the problem.
"If you ask me, whoever offends you, just get rid of them." Zilvra said casually, "It’s the simplest solution."
Deluo chuckled, "That won’t solve the problem."
"But it’s better than having no solution," Zilvra thought for a moment and shouted upstairs, "Soka, are you ready? I’ll take you out to play!"
The little angel swooshed down from upstairs, stumbling in front of Zilvra, "Where to? Where to?"
After the two left, everyone’s attention shifted back upstairs. Mage Lynch had been upstairs the whole time, with no sound coming from him, nor did he come down. Wislin was still pondering where to take Lynch’s mother to ensure her safety. The place he was most familiar with was the Holy Pate Empire, but there, they were engaged in a major war with the Beastmen, and the threat to life could descend at any moment.
This bizarre atmosphere persisted until evening when Lynch came downstairs, supporting his mother. The mage had regained his composure, wearing his mage robes again instead of the ridiculous servant robe.
"I’m sorry to have worried you all," Lynch’s mother said, "But my son has finally returned, which is something to be happy about. I’ll go and make a nice meal for everyone."
