Mage And Wolf -
Chapter 292
Chapter 292: Chapter 292
"When our auras clashed, yours traveled through the link between Slave collars and drove everyone in the city wearing one berserk. Because they were clashing at the time, mine got dragged along, and brought the dead back to life for a while, until the effects faded."
"Right about the time we deactivated them all to see if it stopped the mayhem?" The other Councilor asks.
I nod in agreement, the effect had already started to fade, but removing the collars ended the unusual effects, leaving only the naturally pent up anger of the oppressed.
"No wonder the Oracles couldn’t decide what the new prophecy should be. It was you, me, and a slave revolt all at the same time." Mr Angry says, finally coming back to his senses.
A handful of uniformed soldiers run into the house holding scrolls and looking just as battered as the Councilors. They each take turns reading the messages and passing them along while I patiently wait. I tried standing beside the Mayor with my hand out for the scrolls, but he wasn’t falling for it this time and simply threw them in the fireplace when they had been fully read.
"The insurrection has spread through the city. Portals have opened everywhere, thanks to those with travel techniques and fugitives have taken them anywhere they lead. Millions have fled and millions more on both sides are dead." The Head Councilor informs me once all the news has been passed on to them.
"Well, it would seem that the prophecy no longer matters then. I should go before more trouble arrives." They’re all giving me a knowing look, like I’m not going anywhere anytime soon. The collar is off though, and I’m pretty sure after that last clash that within the limits of this world, they can’t take me except by surprise.
That’s when I hear the marching. Three different sets of forces. One Titan, one that sounds as if it’s mounted on a hoofed animal and one on foot. No, there is a fourth force. Something with paws and claws. They’re harder to hear, but a group of each is approaching the house.
[Just wait in the safe room a little longer. Your father is about to have visitors and I don’t know if they’re friendly.] I inform the kids, getting a set of taps on wood as a response.
We all head out to the lawn to greet the visitors, finding that the assembled forces are demons, Nephilim and Lycans as well as Titans.
"Councilor, it’s a particular pleasure to be here today." The Lycan emissary smiles and the Titan gives him a grim look.
"Surely you didn’t think you could hide the happenings here in Deimos forever did you? Allowing a friend of the Royals, and a favorite of the Death God to stay here as a pet was a massive mistake. Her and her friends have been under surveillance ever since she returned to the Mortal Realms." The Nephilim representative adds.
"So, as it’s our duty, we have come here to investigate accusations of crimes against Immortals." The Demon finishes, and I see a friendly face among the Lycans, Beta John.
"I would just like to say, the Council had nothing to do with the abduction of an Immortal High Priestess. Let’s just get that out in the open before the Dragons show up." Mayor Johan puts out as the first line of the Titans defense.
"Oh, we know. The humans did that part. The Divine Transfer Cult saw the attack by the Titan forces as an opportunity to eliminate priority targets that threatened their existence. They tried to shift the area into limbo, which got the Dragon Gods involved, and ended up sending her to the processing center. The fact you kept her as a pet instead of trying to discover where she came from is what alerted everyone to the fact you were breaking the rules governing Immortal Races." The Demon clarifies.
"We were given processing documents. I’ve got them right here." Johan pulls them out and I read them over. They really do say that I went through training and that I was a troublemaker. How rude.
I pass them over to the Demon, who seems to be the arbiter in this case, and he looks them over with a small smile. He didn’t say anything though, so either the description amused him, or he might know where they came from already.
The Titan reinforcements arrive within the minute, stopping a respectful distance away from the impromptu summit.
"Shall we get things moving along then? We’ve got the requisite five dignitaries." The Demon begins and the Lycan and Nephilim leaders nod.
"Five? I only count four." The Titan Councilor points out.
"Born an Immortal, plus a Dragon God Temple Royal is enough qualification to serve as an inquiry dignitary. Young Miss herself is the fifth unless another qualified representative of the Dragons arrives." The Demon says, as if it was obvious and everyone starts getting ready to go somewhere.
"Mayor, you’ve got two surviving children in the safe room. I’m not sure about anyone else though." I inform him and Johan runs off down the stairs, returning in seconds with a child held in each hand.
"My apologies, my house was damaged in the fighting, so I should bring my family to the meeting with us for safety." He whispers to the other Titans, not mentioning that there were at least 3 more children plus the wife in the house. The staff is taking care of the wife though, so maybe at least one of the kids was with her.
They’re leading us to the city hall for my second time today, through streets littered with bodies and destroyed shells of formerly luxurious residences. The feeling is surreal, it’s only been an hour at most since I came through here last, and now everything is destroyed.
We’ve joined up with the main forces of each group now, and I recognize the attacker from earlier, standing second in command among the Titans, now wearing an Imperial Guard Uniform. That man has many facets to his personality, but the fact he seems to be everywhere today, looking for the Mayor’s Daughter who is now with us, suggests to me that he’s either corrupt, or intending to take her directly to the Imperial Family.
If only I knew which.
