Mage And Wolf -
Chapter 290
Chapter 290: Chapter 290
The carriage was damaged and the driver injured during the fight, so we walk the rest of the way with an escort of what I have learned are Council Guards. The Mayor is actually the least senior member of council, appointed as arbiter because he’s the least influenced by any faction and most relatable for the general population.
I’m taken by an attendant when we arrive, a teenage Titan girl who seems to be in charge of the pets. I smile at her and she flinches, drawing away from the sight of my eyes.
"Let’s get you washed and changed. You can’t go to council like that." The words are barely a whisper, like they’re for herself. This seems to be a regular routine, as she then leads me to a fountain in a side room where a dozen other naked werewolves and wolf kin are waiting, their leashes attached to the wall.
How nobody has noticed I’m practically bathing in death energy is a mystery, until I realize that the collar is masking it all, and the blocking of external cultivation energy usage function is still active.
I scrub first my clothes, then myself, before getting dressed again. "Oh no, they’ve got clothes for you. I’ll put these aside for your Master."
The clothes turn out to be a sack cloth dress that barely covers the essentials. I stare at it in distaste then look at my clothes in a pile.
That outfit isn’t happening.
The others don’t say a word as they get dressed, vacant eyes looking at nothing in particular. When the attendant turns back to me I’m in my leather again and she sighs.
"Why must you be difficult?"
"Because you’ve got horrible fashion sense of course. If you like that sack cloth so much, you wear it." She looks startled that I answered, and even more so that I talked back.
"Look, honey I’m sure it was scary getting covered in blood like that, but you need to behave and put on the pet uniform."
"Wait, you weren’t informed that I killed the Titans whose blood you washed off? Do they not like you?" She looks hurt and offended, it must be a sore point. But I’m not going to apologize until she gives up on the outfit.
She touches my collar and nothing happens. Then she pokes it again and sighs. "Guards, they killed this one’s pain response, the collar isn’t working."
Her call brings two of the same guys in, who look at me and sigh. "That one’s broken. Just don’t provoke her, she’s dangerous. The Mayor instructed us to let her do what she wants as long as she doesn’t damage anything or try to leave."
Bonus. All I need to do is wait.
It’s nearly lunch when they call the pets in and I realize that I know everyone in this room. They are the ones that tried to change the prophecy and asked that I not kill everyone in the city.
"Hi guys. Nice to see you again. I’m a bit under dressed for the occasion, allow me to change." They’re staring in shock when I change to the Royal Robes and jump up on an empty chair.
"You. What are you doing here?" The spokesman shouts.
"Hey, you kidnapped me, remember? See the collar. I’ve been exceedingly kind about the whole thing. Plus, don’t you belong in the Divine Planes? I might not be able to sense most energy with this stupid collar on, but we’re definitely not there. This place smells terrible."
"There was a new prophecy, a slave rebellion will destroy the city. But we’re not sure how, with their collars active." The Mayor answers helpfully before catching himself and glaring at me.
"You could have told me what you were. You made me look like an idiot." He whispers.
I just shrug. "I wasn’t sure I wouldn’t simply kill everyone for the insult. Giving you advance warning would have just been silly. But if the slaves are rising up on their own, I’ll let them take their vengeance without any interference from me."
"Give me a good reason we shouldn’t kill you right now?" One of the Titans roars, unhappy with our banter.
"Because you’re entirely incapable of actually doing it?"
He pulls out an axe in the council room and nobody even bats an eye, it must be normal behavior for him, but I’m not going to back down that easily. I can feel my Domain rising, instinctively countering the violent energy of his own Domain as it crashes into me. It’s a rage related Aura, and almost feels like sandpaper on the skin. With a chime that runs through my soul shrine, my Domain and my Immortal soul merge seamlessly, finalizing the creation of an Origin Soul. The beginnings of the Divine transformation have begun, and I’ve moved from the Soul Transformation to the Ascendant Transformation Stage of the process in an instant.
After this comes the long journey to create a corporeal Divine body from the combination of my Domain and my newly formed Origin Soul so that I can move into the Realms of Divine Cultivators. Assuming that I don’t die in the next two minutes anyhow.
In this cultivation limited environment, our Domains are nearly equal, which is not making him happy. The others have decided to simply watch. At least they do until the heavy impact of Divine Energy from the Titan’s Domain clashing with mine fries the circuits of the Inscriptions on my collar and it falls to the ground in pieces, shattered and hot enough that it’s burning the carpet.
"Did she break that by force of will?"
"Calm her down quick."
"She’s made Seeker, I’m certain of it. A first or second rank High Priestess couldn’t force his Domain to a standstill."
The Titans move quickly to break up the mental fight, pulling us to separate rooms and closing the enchanted doors to block our Domains from clashing.
Mayor Johan grabs me and sets me down on a couch. "So that’s the power of a Demonized Lycan is it? I must say I wasn’t expecting that. I understand now why the Oracle thought you might destroy the city. If the Divine Council hadn’t come here I doubt anyone could have stopped you in time to prevent a disaster."
He’s babbling, but the last couple minutes must have come as a shock to him.
"You should see what happens when I actually start fighting. It’s much more impressive than just a Domain clash. But do you smell that? Something is burning and it’s not the carpet in the other room." The smell of smoke is getting stronger by the second, wafting in through the open window.
