Mage And Wolf -
Chapter 273
Chapter 273: Chapter 273
"You do understand that what you’re planning is a massive violation of mortals rights laws, right? As an Immortal cultivator, you can’t just wipe out entire cities full of mortals whenever it’s convenient."
"What about cities full of immortals, with some innocent bystanders?"
Going by the look on his face, the answer is still no. I knew it would be trouble when Elder Song told him about the plan, and I give the Librarian a dirty look to be sure he knows how I feel.
For his part, Elder Song just laughs and pats my head. "Don’t worry, the refugees located over a dozen command strongholds for us. They should be all Immortal Realm Cultivators and it’s perfectly acceptable for you to blow them up."
Gerald looks a bit skeptical of the plan, but still somewhat intrigued, looking back and forth between us as we discuss targets.
"I know just the place. It’s all immortals, with three newly advanced Divine Realm Cultivators, and near the entrance you used on your last visit. If you hit there first it should cripple their command structure on that world and since it’s in my assigned zone, there won’t be any friendly targets."
We should do that quickly. Hit them, then retreat back here and help the werewolves get things stabilized before going back in to pick another target. The more random the better our chances to cause chaos and demoralize the Divine Transfer.
I nod in agreement before turning to Lelou, who has been captured by a bunch of pups eager the introduce her to their new friends. The mom energy of running an orphanage so long is strong with her, and she attracts children everywhere she goes.
"Watch the locals for me would you? We’ll be back in a while, we’re just going to practice some spellcraft."
"Alright, be safe, and don’t forget they specialize in travel abilities, so leaving from the scene will just make you easier to follow."
That’s one of the most annoying things about the Divine Transfer Cult, other than listening to moronic oracles and attacking our friends. They’re uncannily good at finding people in different worlds. But with the help of Gerald, we should be able to keep them busy for a while on at least this one planet.
The numbering system is worrisome though, if they’ve got over a hundred of these worlds on the go at one time, they’re bound to get more and more transferred into the Immortal Plane before anyone notices or can do anything to stop them.
Alone, that’s not a big deal, but the balance of the Divine Planes is much more precarious, adding new worlds at random is bad not only for the residents, who will be unable to cultivate the early Realms at all for lack of compatible energy, but for the stability of the Plane itself. The lower Divine Energy levels of the new world will pull from surrounding worlds to equalize, which can cause untold suffering, and may even warp the plane enough to destroy entire planets if the new world is too far out of balance, as it will be in many regions of the higher planes.
Elder Song begins running for the portal, using Divine Energy to fly over the treetops and saving himself the trouble of navigation. I prefer to run through the trees, the obstacle course known as a forest makes the trip more fun, and it looks like Gerald agrees because he’s following me. Knowing where the entrance is, we can make it very quickly, and nothing has changed in the refugee camp when we return. They haven’t even been missed yet.
"This way, we can make it in about an hour." Gerald’s youthful and adorable form doesn’t fit his serious demeanor, and I’m surprised he managed to pull it off for so long, especially around other children. I pat his head, ruffling the soft fur on his ears as I start jogging towards the direction he indicated and I can hear Elder Song laughing behind me as the investigator gives an annoyed huff.
He shouldn’t have picked such a cute form if he didn’t want head pats.
The whole area is deserted, at least everything along our path is. The farms are empty and overgrown, there are no residents in the little towns, with most of the doors left open or broken off their hinges. Most likely these were demihuman settlements, and the survivors among their former residents are now getting acquainted with Alpha Conway.
"Just a few more Kilometers. In the valley past those hills, there is a Cultivation Sect. The Divine Transfer has taken them over and is now using the hidden location for their elites. Nobody under Immortal Realm Cultivation can see through the Enchantments, so very few will know it’s even there."
That’s a perfect target for today’s demonstration. It’s strategically important, but nobody will miss it if nobody knows where it is. They’ll just suddenly lose contact with their superiors. I pull a grade 4 monster core from my storage rings and start drawing the energy into myself, overloading every cell of my body and gathering what I can’t contain into a ball in front of me as I begin preparing the spell.
The investigator looks terrified, the panic making her wolfkin face pale and her fluffy ears twitch rapidly before pinning themselves flat as I catch sight of the Sect and stop to pick my target.
"Karl says an appropriate size of the high-density object is optimal for the spell. So I’m thinking the golden bird on top of that building not far from the center." I’m not sure what size is right for the spell, I think the technological bombs only need a few kilos, but better safe than sorry.
"I see what you mean. Go ahead, whenever you’re ready. We’ll take notes for you." Elder Song assures me in the detached monotone he gets when he’s fully focused on absorbing every detail of an experiment.
"Now, as you learned from Karl, the Gold element has a large central core of positively charged and neutral particles. See how I am going to just split them in half with the energy of the spell? Now that they’re all ready to split and the energy is transferred, we finalize the technique and..."
BOOM
As expected, the Sect compound is gone, obliterated, removed from existence, except one standing archway, that seems undisturbed.
"Oh, very nice. Yes, I see. That is the true nature of matter indeed. I finally understand the truth of Alchemy and the blending of materials." Elder Song informs me while scribbling notes at a furious pace as if he didn’t have a memory spell up that would allow him to replay his reflections on the event over and over in his mind.
Gerald hasn’t written anything though. "You might want to finish up your analysis. We should head out in reasonable order before people come to investigate that mushroom cloud."
He nods numbly, still in shock, so I pick the tiny form of the wolfkin up and carry her princess style back towards the portal, while Elder Song cackles in glee at having discovered something truly new to him.
