Mage And Wolf -
Chapter 256
Chapter 256: Chapter 256
The two children who I escorted to the bunker must have been waiting at the door, because they’re outside already and the fighting has barely stopped.
"Hey Moon Goddess lady, you won! We knew you would." The boy answers. At first I thought it was two boys, but it’s a boy and girl, dressed the same and so similar they’re probably twins.
"We won, but I’m not sent by the moon Goddess, sorry little ones."
"Who else could you be though? You feel like powerful Lycan, but you’ve got that pretty form. Only the Moon Goddess could have ears that amazing." He says, as if that’s the deciding fact.
Maybe it’s easier not to argue with him on this one. Alpha Conway is nearly choking trying not to laugh already. Instead, I deflect.
"Should you be out here already? The monsters might not all be gone."
"You’re here, and dad’s here, so it’s fine. Nothing can beat you two." He informs me and his sister nods her head in agreement.
"These must be yours. They’ve got alpha level logic." I joke to Conway, who laughs.
"They usually hide it better, but their big brother has been a bad influence lately."
I look around and see a young warrior escorting a very pregnant woman out of the bunker. The boy looks just like his dad, Alpha Conway, so that must be his wife. She’s younger than I expected, seeing the oldest boy, and looking great for being on child number four.
No, going by her scent, four and five. It’s a peculiarity of the Lycan sense of smell that we can quickly discern the difference, to werewolves the children’s scent blends with the mother, simply indicating she’s pregnant.
"Greetings Mrs Conway, and congratulations on number four and five." I greet her as she gets close, staring at Alpha Conway with adoration. Werewolf mates, permanently lovey dovey, no matter the location.
"Greetings Miss, no don’t tell me. Half Lycan, powerful, smol, blonde, you must be Katrina, High Priestess of the Death God." I am not that short, but she’s easily six feet tall, with dark hair and olive skin. Thick in all the right places with what used to be a thin waist before she was so pregnant. By comparison, I guess I am.
"How bad did it get? I see a lot of survivors, thank the Goddess." She sighs.
"Eight lost. The rest accounted for and healed with magical pills from the cultivation worlds." Her husband says and she gives him a big hug.
"They’re building us a wall with magic now, so we can secure the compound. Tomorrow we will start saving what we can."
She looks around and everyone greets her with respect when they meet her eyes. She’s starting to tear up seeing the damage until she spots Lelou and simply stops. Just blinking and staring at the Dragon. Hui’Jin is helping her clean up monster corpses, the Dragon eating choice bites of certain ones before throwing the ones that don’t taste great out into the woods.
"There’s a Dragon."
"There is."
"Oh."
Her response is perfect, having never seen a Dragon before, she simply couldn’t compute the giant red flying reptile. Her oldest son helps her sit down on a fallen tree to recover from the shock and gather her thoughts while Alpha Conway gives directions to his warriors, setting them tasks to help clear the area.
Karl is making good time with the Earth Magic, since he doesn’t have to do anything fancy. They’ve erected quite a bit of perimeter wall already, 5 meters tall, enough to keep out most monsters, or at least deter them from passing through. He’s made it over halfway around the fence line already, so I decide to wait by the driveway where he started for him to finish.
He’s discussing using fortifying Inscriptions to keep the category 4 Beasts from breaking through the Stone, as simple rocks are no match for a creature on par with most Core Formation cultivators. The pack only has a few Wolves in the Condensation Realm so far, the Alpha, his second in command, and strangely, one of the Omegas. Maybe it’s a quirk of genetics, the weakest supernatural creatures seem to make great cultivators.
From what I can gather, the third is a teenage girl who hasn’t shifted yet, so she’s in the bunker along with the other omega Wolves, waiting for the all clear so they can come out and start making a celebration dinner for the survival of the pack.
This is my moment to shine, celebration dinners are my specialty.
"Alpha Conway, can I borrow your kitchen for a bit? I’m going to whip up something for the warriors." I call to the big bad wolf who is making happy noises into his wife’s stomach.
"You’re cooking? Follow me, Moon Goddess Lady, I’ll lead you there." The son of the Alpha declares, taking me by the hand and leading me to the Pack house with his sister walking behind us. I take her hand in my other one and the girl blushes, but hurries to keep up, still not saying anything.
"What do they like after a battle? Meat and more Meat?" I ask.
"Yep. And cupcakes, everyone loves cupcakes." The boy has a shifty look, telling me exactly who ’everyone’ is.
"Do you like cupcakes too?" I ask his sister who nods rapidly and gives me begging eyes.
"Cupcakes it is. You don’t speak much do you?" She shakes her head no.
"She got sick when we were little and hasn’t been able to talk since." Her brother explains and I nod. That happens sometimes, usually accompanied by an extreme fever. Aphasia I believe it’s called, a type of damage to the brain. A Rank 4 healing pill should fix that, and I’ve got a bunch on me, but I don’t want the kids to feel like they owe me too much.
Instead, I’ll sneak it into her food and call it a miracle.
Roasting meat with mystic cooking only takes a few minutes, so I’ve done up a hundred kilos of category 4 Moose Meat, the reason I was actually excited to come here, and we’re on to making cupcakes.
"Your special cooking is amazing. If the Omegas could do this they’d have so much free time." The boy says in awe, not understanding there’s always more work to do.
"Well, the first batch is ready, do you want to help me decorate them? Then we can taste test them and make sure they came out right." I wink and the kids giggle. Taste testing fresh baked goods is the best part of cooking after all.
