Mage And Wolf -
Chapter 255
Chapter 255: Chapter 255
By the time I’ve finished scanning the area with my senses, Alpha Conway has shifted back to human form and found himself some sweatpants. He’s looking over the devastation of his pack grounds with sad eyes as the rest of my group is checking for surviving Wolves and administering low grade healing pills. It doesn’t take much with werewolves, if they’re not in danger of bleeding to death, they’ll usually recover on their own.
"Can you explain what happened? Your message didn’t make things sound this bad, I was going to come help with cultivation techniques and hunt some Moose. Well, I did that second part, but what’s with the monster Horde?" I ask.
"Your guess is a good as mine. Two days ago they just started going crazy, rampaging and stampeding through the area destroying everything. They’re even killing each other if they run out of targets." The Alpha shrugs.
Even in human form he’s still a beast. A full 6’6", deeply tanned, heavily muscled and zero body fat, as expected of an Alpha werewolf. Right now his gray eyes look haunted and his jet black hair is a mess, but he’s still got the presence of a natural born leader.
"We’ve gotten to everyone we can. I count eight lost, unless some are missing entirely." Lelou calls over and Alpha Conway nods solemnly.
"Thank you for that, I expected closer to thirty to be lost or crippled. You lot even saved the last of the children to get to the bunker."
"Is it a proper bunker then? I was worried it was just a glorified root cellar like so many other packs panic rooms are. There’s not much left here on the surface but the one pack house." Karl asks, carrying an injured warrior over to an open spot in the grass to recover.
"We built it a number of years ago to throw the government off. They were investigating us after a slip up by one of our youngsters, so we decided to make them think we were a prepper militia, it’s the perfect cover for a werewolf pack. That way they expect patrols, guns, physical training, and if they happen to catch a glimpse of someone shifted we can explain it away as a guard dog. That line doesn’t work with the usual, we’re a hippie commune, sort of excuse."
"So you’re saying all those years of the news reporting White Supremacist groups in the woods of Canada..." one of the witches begins.
"Yep, almost all werewolves. The news didn’t look deeply enough to even check skin tone once they had the story they wanted." Alpha Conway laughs. Looking again, I think he himself has mostly native American blood. Unless a wolf is very weak, the werewolf gene will be dominant to the human, but the physical appearance of the werewolves human form will be a mix of their parents.
Alphas having human mates is uncommon, but strange things happen in the remote woods.
"How many can move into the pack house? Or do you think you’ll need to evacuate immediately?" Lelou asks, working on a plan to get everyone settled.
"All the warriors stay in the big house. The bunker can comfortably hold the families and elderly for now. But unless we can do something about the security, it won’t matter for long."
"I can help with that. I might be an Arcane mage, but I do know some Earth Magic. At Immortal Realm Cultivation I can build you up a wall around the compound in no time, out of solid stone, since it looks like we’ve got lots of natural Granite here. That should keep the monsters out better than your old chain link fence did. Then you can salvage the pack compound." Karl suggests.
"Sounds better than leaving it to the Beasts. Thanks for the rescue by the way." Another large werewolf, with sandy brown hair and tattoos all over claps Karl in the back and continues handing out bottles of water.
"Question. Doesn’t anyone here believe in pants?" Hui’Jin asks, making Conway laugh.
"We can’t keep them on when we shift, the size difference would tear them. Everything got trashed today, so we temporarily don’t know where any of the pants are. Werewolves don’t worry much about nudity anyways, it happens too much to be shy about it." The Alpha wolf shrugs.
"Now that’s relaxed. Just hanging out with no pants on. I approve, even if doing it outdoors is a bit strange." Lala gives him a thumbs up, making the nearby Wolves laugh.
"I’ve heard of the Bunny species, but this is the first one I’ve seen. What might your name be?" One of the Wolves gives a closed mouth smile that he hopes is non threatening.
"I’m Lala, the mightiest Bunny on Earth." She responds puffing her chest out and the Wolves laugh.
"She’s not joking. You might not be able to tell with all the smells around and the stronger Auras, but Lala here is a Condensation Realm cultivator." I inform the pack, who look at her in a whole new way. They might be new to cultivation, but they’ve surely learned by now how great the benefits are.
"Welcome then, Bunny Champion." Alpha Conway bows, making Lala laugh at the formality which seems so very out of place in this situation.
"Let’s start Cleaning up the corpses. We can bury your dead, if that’s your custom, and process any edible monsters. But be sure to gather any monster cores you find, they’re important cultivation resources. Plus they’re valuable even if you’re not using them." I instruct and Karl grabs one of the stronger Wolves to show him where the perimeter should be. Most of the fence is trampled in place, but it’s better to be certain.
"None of the pack lived outside the fence, right? I know how some packs have a few shunned members." Karl asks softly, but not so low that me and Conway can’t hear.
"No, we’re good that way. The pack all got along tolerably well. At least we’ll enough they all lived in the complex anyhow."
"Excellent, I’ll start the wall."
