Mage And Wolf -
Chapter 248
Chapter 248: Chapter 248
It looks like we’re going to be leaving with a large than usual group, but that’s not going to happen just yet. We’ve all got work to do, and we’re going to make sure that Lala will get an amazing party before we go. She’s already got abandonment issues, simply bailing on our friend to go adventure would just be cruel. Plus, who doesn’t like a good reason to celebrate?
The hotel staff love hosting parties as much as we like attending them, so they’ve already started decorating a conference room and making special bunny themed snacks for tonight’s festivities.
But this paperwork is so annoying. Who decided that we needed to sign things anyhow? There’s not much compared to what Hui’Jin informs me is normal, but it’s taking forever and I want bunny fluff. It takes so long in fact that Lala is back from her morning spa treatment before I finish, running happily into the room, excessively fluffy and smelling amazing from whatever they used on her fur.
"Lala! Come sit, we’re almost finished up here. Do you want to go see the city before your party?" Hui’Jin calls as she approaches and I move to intercept, giving Lala a hug and rubbing my face in the fluffy fur of her ears.
"I’ve missed you." I whisper as I hug her and she giggles.
"Me, or fluffy bunny ears?"
Maybe a little bit of both, honestly. "Both you, and your fluffy bunny ears. Now extra strength they tell me. Congratulations on your breakthrough."
Even the Avatars are intrigued by the sight of a Bunny species cultivator. They don’t usually have the desire for longevity and the power or the social status to try even if they do, so she’s a curiosity to everyone here, including the demons. As such, they treated her extra well during her spa visit as an excuse to talk with her, and she’s overjoyed. Even being around people all day at work she doesn’t get to chat enough, in her opinion.
Hui’Jin and Lelou both roll their eyes at that, knowing that the bunnies who work for the school and Orphanage chatter nonstop all day everyday, and what she really means is she doesn’t get to talk to enough new people, who haven’t heard every bit of office gossip. She’s come a long way from the timid slave bunny we rescued from a locked bedroom in a dying world. She’s a proper professional, with a steady job and a good reputation in the community.
It seems the bunnies of Arcana are picking a den leader soon, their equivalent of a mayor or species representative, and she’s a front runner. Everyone knows her, and she’s strong and well respected. It’s not a formal position in the city, more of an honorary community elder, but it will give every Bunny in the city a reason to come visit and talk to her on occasion, plus there will be even more social events to attend.
The other close competitor is one of the counter Bunnies working at the Guild Hall, where everyone trades for supplies. He’s also well known, because of his job, but he doesn’t cultivate and is more known as friendly than having an air of authority. Bunnies are not usually strength first sorts, but being close to the city leaders is a benefit, and even more if they’ll listen to you, which is an advantage that Lala holds.
Her and the Vampire Narishma, Former leader of the underground base and now Mayor of Arcana, still have dinner together a couple times a week and get together for weekend movie nights.
"It’s a nefarious vampire plot I tell you. She’s just looking for excuses to spend time near the cultivation totem." Lala jokes, before going on a side track about movies they’ve watched recently.
Some of them are actually new. Even the end of the world wasn’t enough to completely shut down production. And now they’ve openly got witches, Mages, werewolves and cultivators to do stunts without expensive CGI additions. Low budget supernatural movies are the big thing this year, if Lala is correct about the trends in Arcana.
Her current favorite series is about a blue dragon and his Bunny girlfriend who solve supernatural crime. Honestly it sounds pretty cute. I might have to make time to watch that later.
Lala decides that the first order of business will be food. She simply needs to try the new flavors Outpost has to offer. She’s sampled almost everything available in Arcana at least once, which is almost as impressive as her cultivation strength. So that’s our next order of business. There’s street food carts all through the shopping district near this casino, and Karl seems particularly interested in Demon fashion.
Now, he’s not really a fashion guru sort of a guy. Black Taoist Robes or High Priest garb instead of Jeans and Biker leathers is about the extent of his variety, so I’m getting a sneaking suspicion that I will be the one trying on whatever he hopes to find here.
"Alright, everyone ready? Let’s head out!" Lala calls, leading a mismatched convoy of her friends towards the front lobby.
"Wait, before you go, I’ve got a VIP membership card for Lala. A present from the Queen to celebrate your breakthrough. It will let you into the VIP changing and lounge areas while you’re shopping, and will let you skip the line if you should want to go to a club, movie or other activity next time you visit." The doorman informs us when he sees us all coming.
He hands Lala a Platinum membership card, made of actual platinum, and she holds it over her head like a trophy.
"Success! Give my utmost gratitude to the Queen. This will come in much more handy than you could imagine. Nobody takes Bunnies seriously, and your theater has so many Demon Realm movies that nobody from Arcana has seen yet." Lala cheers, doing a little dance, the frilly skirt of her light blue outfit bouncing along with her while the swaying of her minimal curves under her hoodie, and the happy twitching of her ears draws the appreciative attention of the staff before they notice who she’s with.
She’ll have to learn to be assertive if she finds someone she likes, because her friends are entirely too good at scaring potential suitors away without even saying a word.
