Mage And Wolf -
Chapter 195
Chapter 195: Chapter 195
Amanda takes my measure quickly before running off to find new clothes for me. Neither of my sets of Robes are suitable for a shopping trip, and I don’t want to give away that I’ve got storage devices still with me. Sure, they’re being nice now, but they already locked me up once.
She comes back with what is clearly a little girl’s dress. Purple with white lace, frilly and puffy. "It’s the best I could do without having something tailored. Nephilim girls are your size at about age 4." She shrugs and I notice as she hands it to me that the gown is backless to accommodate their wings.
"If we don’t want everyone to know I’m a Priestess, we will need a coat or something too." I say, headed to the bathroom to change. Her eye is good, it hangs just past my knees and fits perfectly, except that it leaves my tail trapped under my skirts. Unfortunately I don’t have the time to fix that, so I’ll have to be careful with the tail wagging.
She giggles when I come out and twirl, using the slippers from my Royal Robes to fill in for whatever footwear they might have been able to find me.
"You’re right, that mark is intense. I totally forgot that you didn’t have wings until I saw your whole back on display." Amanda says with a hint of awe.
The King pulls a cloth out of his storage ring, purple silk with white lace trim. I think it’s supposed to be a handkerchief for someone his size, but it makes a cloak on me. A simple gold brooch holds the ends together and my wardrobe problem is solved.
Meanwhile, Ahra has showered and returned in a black dress that hangs to her feet with a single white diagonal stripe across the front. It seems to be a uniform of sorts, but I’m not sure for what position. Amanda nods her approval though, so it must be suitable for a trip to the market.
"Where all are we headed today? This will be my first visit to a city in a Divine Realm, so I have no idea what to expect." I tell the Princess.
"Well, we need to go see some tailors, and then there’s some snack shops we should see, papa doesn’t let me go when he’s with us. Then we can visit an Alchemist if you need any pills."
"I can make my own pills, I’m pretty good that way. In fact, there should be some decent ones in the rings I was wearing when I was brought here. I’m not sure where they went though." I shrug, hoping they’ll actually return them. There really are good things in them too, including the pills I made for the alchemy competition. Maybe they’re not up to the standards here, but they’re still pretty good.
"I’ll ask Prince Mahmoud what happened with your effects. If they’ve been disposed of I’ll have Princess Amanda replace the contents for you. Goods from the Mortal Realms are no major expense." He’s got a point. Stuff that is precious where I come from is basically trash here.
As we are walking towards the exit of the castle, we’re joined by seven more people. Six guards and an elegant young woman. Young looking anyhow, I can’t really tell with Nephilim, plus they’re Immortal.
"Young Miss, meet my Older Sister Paula, she’s my big brother’s wife." Amanda introduced us and I give my best curtsey and a smile which makes both of them laugh.
"What have you dressed her in Amy? Is that one of your old Princess dresses?" Paula laughs.
"I’m certain it is, but I look fantastic." I laugh it off so Amanda doesn’t feel bad. She’s promised to load me up with chocolate and alchemy ingredients from the Divine Realm after all.
"Well, I’ve always wanted a feisty little sister and you did a magnificent job in the arena." Paula commends me, taking my hand to lead us towards the gates.
That reminds me that I should really be murderously angry with these people, but they actually seem to be pretty nice, when they’re not calling me Puppy or locking me in a cell. Which was incredibly rude, no matter how I look at it. Maybe a little vengeance is still in order.
"Her and brother are an arranged marriage, they’re both too shy to express themselves but they’re so cute together." Amanda whispers to me before we reach the gate.
The first spot we enter is a single block from the gates, prime real estate for any business. They’re a tailor that specializes in dresses for visiting nobility, and I’m assured they will be discrete about anything they make for me, in case I need something special.
The real need for discretion isn’t scandalous clothes though, as Paula and the Seamstress discovered while I was being mocked up for a formal dress.
"That’s, uh quite the Clergy Mark you’ve got. Is that from who I think it is?" The seamstress asks quietly, to not alarm people in the other fitting rooms.
"It is. You understand now why I was wearing a cape with a princess dress, the back is wide open for your wings." She nods her understanding, and the unflappable seamstress keeps right on with her work.
She’s a bit dismayed that she can’t do a low cut off the shoulder piece like she wanted to, due to my mark. I think it would be fine, but the Princesses insist that it’s best to avoid starting political rumors in the palace, so the formal dress has a full back and sleeves, while she’s going to make me some more open shirts and dresses for casual wear, along with a few sets of lingerie in the local fashion.
I suggested to Paula that going commando is actually very freeing, but she looked even more horrified than when she saw the Death God’s mark. She’s going to be so much fun to tease.
I have the shop make Paula up a set of Taoist Robes as a gift, peach colored transparent silk in the fashion of the Forbidden Treasure Sect, to be worn as pajamas. They assure me they can enchant them to be easily worn with wings and not need large openings, and I’m certain the Crown Prince will appreciate my present too.
Just in case I have the shop include one of my Blissful Song pills in the gift package, with instructions to burn it as incense for a special nighttime occasion.
Next up is a chocolate shop that we might have never escaped from if not for the Royal Guards. They’re under strict orders to not allow Amanda access to large amounts of sugar. Not because she’s diabetic, but because she’s far too energetic to begin with and sugar is an effective stimulant to Nephilim.
Much of the city is damaged as we pass through, a result of the recent battle. It’s been pretty well cleaned up, but even without having felt the energy, I could tell things were pretty brutal both here and in the castle grounds.
The rest of the day is spent in alchemy shops, picking up ingredients. I’ve gotten enough here to keep me busy for years, all on the royal family’s tab, but what the girls have collected is ten times that much. We’ve been to every single herbalist and alchemy supply shop in town by the time we need to return to pick up our new clothes and head home for the formal dinner.
The fight between the Titans and the Nephilim ended in a stalemate, and the Titan captain has requested my presence at tonight’s meal, saying he has important information to share before their ceasefire can be finalized.
