Mage And Wolf -
Chapter 191
Chapter 191: Chapter 191
The giants aren’t as tough as they look, at least not when enraged. They drop to the first Salvo of attacks, Ahra nearly takes a leg off her opponent before knocking him unconscious with the second strike, while I crush a ribcage with a surprise punch from Shadow Meld and follow it up with a kick that breaks the second giant’s pelvis.
The announcer looks pained seeing the results of that strike and is about to say something when an alarm goes off. "That’s the attack alarm. The city is in a state of emergency, so if we can get everyone to head for safety, it is time our competitors return to their rooms." He calls out to widespread jeering. There should have been a lot of fights left, and they were just getting into it.
"Will you two please follow me. My name is Doosan, Royal Researcher appointed by the King to look into your abilities." An older looking Nephilim asks politely from the edge of the ring.
"After you Researcher." I shrug, dragging Ahra along, not seeing it being likely that his studies will be worse than that stone cell. Heck, if we’re lucky whatever is attacking might just wipe out the city.
The amount of Death Energy building in the air is overwhelming me as we walk. Do the deaths of a few fighters at the Divine Realm really release this much energy? If it keeps up I’m going to be forced to breakthrough in the next couple of minutes.
"Researcher Doosan, could we sit a moment? The flood of energy is about to force me to break though." I tell him when it’s becoming too much to hold back anymore. My Goddesses mark is saturated, and has spread even further down my arm and across my back, Plus my spirit ocean is overflowing with energy in a painful way and every cell in my body is overwhelmed.
"We’re almost there. I’ve got recording devices already set up to investigate the changes. I suspected something like this might happen if fighting started." He assures me, carrying me at a flat out run with Ahra trailing behind.
He sets me down on a beanbag chair when we arrive, but one in the middle of an array of high tech equipment. It’s not too bad, I just need to focus a second to make sure nothing is going to go wrong.
"Can someone tell me what is going on? Why is she being forced to breakthrough?" Ahra pants when she finally arrives.
"The Lycan is a Priestess of the Death God. There are Divine level cultivators fighting and dying near here, flooding her body with energy from their demise. Plus, Lycans are a species created by the Moon Goddess, they’re inherently attuned to Divine energy, this one more than most. I suspect she was a member of a Lycan Royal Family before she was captured. Kindly close the door behind you." Doosan explains in one long breath, not looking away from his screens.
"A creation of the Moon Goddess and a Priestess of the Death God is fighting here as a gladiator? And wearing a pet collar that says her name is Puppy?" Ahra stammers in disbelief.
"Mistakes were made. But that’s not my concern, I just want to see this breakthrough, it’s not often you can see a Death Energy cultivator break through, especially a Mortal cultivator in a Divine Realm world." Doosan doesn’t sound at all concerned, but that’s the last thing I hear before I pop the Core Formation and Soul Forging pills in my mouth.
They might not be necessary with this much energy, but the effect seems to smooth out the flow that was hitting me like a truck just seconds ago. It’s like every part of my body is expanding to accommodate the change, and I can physically see the black miasma gathering around me, with flashes of golden lightning inside of it.
The Death God’s mark fades back into view, and whatever ability was sealing my robes vanishes at the same time under the effects of this cloud.
The first rank up has flowed smoothly into the second, but the energy in the area is still building, turning the whole room dark and making Doosan curse and send Ahra to turn on additional lights.
"Is that Tribulation Lightning in the Death Energy? That can’t be normal. Maybe it’s an effect of the difference in ranks?" The Researcher is writing two sets of notes, one with each hand, as he alternates between watching the screens and watching me in person.
As the second breakthrough triggers a third, the energy starts to coalesce, from a shadow into a physical mist. I can actually feel it on my skin and tell Doosan of the change. There’s some sort of intercom relaying the events in the city to us, but I can’t understand anything through the rush of energy making my ears ring. It can’t be good though, if the expression on Ahra’s face is any guide. But then she’s a gladiator slave, is there a good outcome for her here?
During the fourth advancement, the flickers of lightning in the mist become full fledged sheet lightning, rolling through the cloud and blowing up a great number of Doosan’s measuring devices. He insists it’s not Divine Tribulation, and I agree, as it isn’t hitting me. I can feel it on my skin though, becoming part of me. At this rate I’m not even sure what species I’ll be considered when we finish. Lycans aren’t supposed to contain this much Divine energy I don’t think.
I can feel the mark from my shoulder expanding, trying to absorb all the energy it can while it is in the area, and the combined effect of this cloud, now almost thick enough to call it a liquid, has turned my Spirit Ocean from a tiny watery Realm within my mind into a full fledged little world. It’s not just water anymore, even in this overwhelmed state I can tell that there’s land now, and shadowy things forming.
I’ll keep that to myself though, I don’t want to end up lobotomized after my big mouth got me thrown into the arena just last night.
"You can see the cloud in her eyes now." Ahra says, making notes of her own and Doosan brings out a magnifying glass headset to look more closely at me.
"Incredible, it’s like looking into the eyes of a Celestial, black with golden flecks like the whole universe is held in her eyes."
My vision doesn’t seem different though. In fact, it’s hard to see at all through this dark liquid and the lightning that keeps blinding me for split seconds.
I’ve lost track of how many Ranks I’ve moved through now, they no longer feel linear, like my cultivation is ebbing back and forth as my body adapts to the changes being forced by the advancement in this Energy dense world. When I first came to Elder Song’s world, a similar thing happened, though in a less grand scale. Just Multiple breakthroughs in a very short period of time.
The building itself seems to be shaking, and Ahra looks concerned, though Doosan is too absorbed in his work to have noticed anything.
"Master Researcher, I think the fighting is right outside the tower now." She informs him.
Oh good, it’s not my fault. No wait, that’s even worse, I don’t know who’s winning the battle, but if the Titans break into this tower I’m mince meat.
