Mage And Wolf
Chapter 185

Chapter 185: Chapter 185

Sandra comes by first thing on the morning with good news. She has agreed to go with Elder Ye and train to become a member of the Sect. A full round of congratulations from the competitors present welcome our newest potential disciple to the fold, and she begins helping everyone make plans for the day. Where to eat, which Alchemists are supposed to show promise and must importantly what fights simply must be seen.

According to her, the rumors around the city say that there’s 4 more fighters to keep an eye on, beyond Karl and one more in Group A. They’re all into Core Formation, though not by much, and they’ve all mastered a secret art of their Sect or other high level fighting technique.

I’ve decided today is a day for my favorite combat outfit. The leather boots and pants with over bust Corset and a cream colored blouse that Karl first enchanted for self repair and a defensive barrier back home in Arcana. I add a silk scarf around the waist and matching blood red ribbons in my hair and I’m ready to face the day in style. Man I’ve missed this outfit. Cultivators robes are comfortable, and the Priestess Robes are great, but this outfit just feels like home.

We’re just finishing grabbing snacks and about to go find a seat in the bleachers to watch the first few fights of the morning when Elder Song stops us with a strange look on his face.

"Ye, take the children and all the other disciples back to the Sect now. You have five minutes before I open the gate for you in the lobby of the hotel." He says quietly but urgently. I haven’t heard him this concerned before, and sending everyone away when some of them are supposed to be competing in a few hours? That’s unheard of.

"I understand. I expect you’ll explain later." She nods and disappears with both girls under her arms.

"I just sensed a shifting in the balance of this realm from excess divine energy entering this world. I don’t know what they’re here for yet, but I’m almost certain we’re under attack. Not the city, us in particular." I understand the feeling, Lycans are also sensitive to ill intentions directed at them. If Elder Song feels we’re being personally threatened he’s likely right.

I’m not sure what the three of us could have done that multiple Divine level cultivators would want to attack us for. Okay I have a few ideas, but no solid evidence. Elder Song is leading us towards the less populated areas of the city, away from the huge crowds and civilians, so it must be dangerous to a level that might destroy buildings and put bystanders at risk.

Just as we’re getting into a mostly deserted suburb I start noticing the number of strange outfits among the pedestrians. Nothing that they’re wearing is common either in this world or mine.

"Are those who we’re looking for?" Karl asks Elder Song who shakes his head.

"Those are police of a sort from Prophetic Security. A Sect in the Divine Realms that works to stop high level cultivators from messing with the lower realms. Since they’re here, their seers must have determined someone else was going to take an action that will either cost a lot of lives or influence a prophecy to create a negative outcome. They don’t bother with little things, so whatever is about to happen is going to be important, even if seems small." Elder Song explains, just before we’re noticed.

"Librarian, kindly speak with us a moment. We’re not here to give you any trouble, but the Death Cult oracles say that in this city has become a target of the Titans, trying to change a prophecy made by their gods. We don’t know which one though, so all we can do is try to be everywhere when they attack." The cultivator, who I guess is some sort of police detective, informs Elder Song in a polite voice.

"They want to change something passed down to them by their own gods? Doesn’t that seem a bit strange to anyone else?" I ask.

"They view it as a mark of worthiness if their followers can challenge fate and help the Titan race. Failure to change the foreseen future is harshly punished by the Titan King." Elder Song gives me a short lecture on their culture.

The Sect seems to have gathered in time, as Elder Song takes a moment to cast an Arcane Spell I am reasonably sure is the gate to send everyone else home. Just in time too, as the energy in the air is steadily rising, I can feel it crackle on my skin.

The power in the air seems to invert with a gut wrenching twist and everywhere I can see there is an army of 3 meter tall warriors in crude pants and steel chest plates appears.

"Half Giants, expendable slave troops of the Titan kingdom. They should all be in the Mortal Realms." The detective fills us in.

These soldiers are attacking everyone they see without any sense of priority. They’re falling fast to the large number of cultivators in town, but the damage they’re causing is extensive. Very few are home in the residential area, all working or out to watch the events, but a third of the homes are damaged already.

I drive an energy enhanced kick into the chest of a nearby half giant, crushing his chest armor and the ribs behind it. He was barely into Condensation, as many of this wave of invaders are, and he stood no chance against the pure brute force. This can’t be the event big enough to change prophecy though. Even if this planet is all human, they just look like tall humans, not some destiny changing revelation for anyone.

The air seems to twist again and another group of opponents appears. Hill Giants. Now this is enough to cause mass panic in the streets. Not just the civilians, most of the cultivators are in full blown panic mode at the sight of a non human species. Especially an armed and invading one.
