Chapter 99: Chapter 99

"It’s fine, Arthur. We didn’t wait that long anyway," Winter said as she pulled Sebastian’s arm, leading him into the car.

Sebastian followed his wife obediently, while Arthur was glaring at him with full-blown hostility.

Sebastian and Arthur’s eyes met as the couple passed by the latter, and Sebastian smirked full of arrogance, wanting to show this bastard who had been coveting his wife the true winner in the end.

Arthur didn’t know what happened between them during the event, but it truly stung when he saw his Madam hanging around that bastard’s arm as if they were truly a married couple.

Arthur knew well that his Madam didn’t love this man at all.

’I doubt that bastard can charm the Madam so much. She is probably forced to act lovingly with him right?’

Arthur had his doubts.

Unfortunately, as much as he wanted to protect his Madam unless Winter told him what truly happened, Arthur couldn’t do anything about it.

Thus, he begrudgingly sat in the driver’s seat and then drove away.

Winter and Sebastian sat in the backseat, but the latter felt uncomfortable because Winter was still hugging his arm, even though they were already inside the car.

Sebastian didn’t hate it.

On the contrary, he liked it.

He had gotten used to seeing Winter hating him simply by existing, so he got nervous when his wife was all smiles and clingy.

’Did I do something wrong?’

That simple question kept popping in his mind. No matter how many times Winter assured him how impressive he was during the event, he felt restless by Winter’s change of behavior.

Nevertheless, he didn’t want to raise his concern over this. He enjoyed Winter’s clinginess.

’Ah, it’d be nice if we could stay like this forever,’ Sebastian thought. ’At peace with my beloved wife. What’s more to ask?’

*

They arrived at home late at night. Winter purposely ignored Arthur who tried to talk to her as they got out of the car.

She knew what was in Arthur’s mind, and although she had been trying to tell him that Sebastian wasn’t physically abusive, Arthur simply refused to believe so.

So, the best thing to do was to ignore him right now. She didn’t want Arthur to ruin the harmonious feeling between the newlyweds.

Winter leaned her head on Sebastian’s arm as they waited for the elevator to go up to the penthouse.

Sebastian who had been trying his best to keep his mouth shut finally couldn’t hold it anymore. "Winter, there’s no one but us right now."

"And?" Winter asked, but there was a hint of interest in her voice.

Unfortunately, Sebastian didn’t catch her flirtatious tone. He swallowed his saliva hard as he muttered, "And I... I’m not sure why you are still hugging my arm."

"Do you not like it?" Winter asked as she slowly let go of his arm.

"It’s not that. It’s just... I don’t know what I did wrong..." Sebastian said. He glanced at the empty arm. It had been hugged by Winter for an hour straight, and now he felt lonely instantly. "You’ve been very hostile towards me right after we got married. You want a divorce, and I just don’t understand why..."

"But I’ve grown accustomed to your hostility and expect nothing now. As long as I can stay by your side, then all is well for me," Sebastian said. "So, I just don’t understand why you suddenly become so clingy with me. Did I do something wrong?"

Of course, Sebastian was lying. He was fully aware of what happened in the past, and the reason for Winter’s hostility. He just feigned his innocence because if he had no memory of the past, he would be confused and heartbroken by Winter’s rejection.

...

Winter said nothing at first. She was trying to process the guilt in her heart.

True, she hated what Sebastian did in her previous life, but this Sebastian was kind, and dedicated. It also seemed that he was really in love with her.

She must’ve hurt him badly by being openly hostile and constantly insulting him.

’Is it his responsibility to bear the sin that hasn’t happened yet in this world?’ Winter pondered for a while, but she got no answer.

Thus, Winter decided to just swallow all of her hostility towards this innocent man for now and focused on working together for Aiden’s company instead.

Sebastian got nervous facing Winter’s sudden silence, so he asked again, "Wife, did I do anything wrong?"

"You didn’t," Winter replied without looking at him, fearing that she might look too guilty. "You did nothing wrong against me, so let’s just let bygones be bygones and start anew."

Ding!

Sebastian was still stunned as the elevator door opened, and Winter stepped out. She ignored Sebastian who was still in the elevator and walked straight to the penthouse’s door.

Sebastian quickly caught up to her, and then asked, "T-then, does that mean you finally accept me as your new husband?"

"Don’t be too confident, Sebastian Saenz. I just said to let the bygones be bygones because I don’t find a fault in you," Winter said as she entered the penthouse.

Sebastian continued following her from behind and asked again, "Then, can we sleep together starting from now on? We’re a legal husband and wife, right? It’s normal."

"That’s a no. We still have a bet, remember?" Winter said as she took off her heels and walked to the living room.

Sebastian knew that he shouldn’t ask for too much, but he wanted to push it further. He wanted Winter to compromise more. If they couldn’t sleep together, then he wanted her to fix his tie in the morning at least, or maybe cook breakfast every day, or something else that would prove they were in regular married life.

He kept asking for more and more until Winter was fed off. She turned around, facing her second husband who stared at her with excitement and expectation.

"I think you are a good man, Sebastian, and I appreciate how you try to treat me right. But moving on is hard for me," Winter said. But she didn’t specify whom she was moving on from.

From Aiden’s death.

Or from previous Sebastian’s cruelty.
