Chapter 94: Chapter 94

Winter’s lips thinned. She wasn’t sure if being honest here would lead to a good result. She glanced at Sebastian who stood next to Lucien, and the man nodded firmly.

’There’s also no point in trying to mask my intention, I guess. No matter how insincere it sounds,’ Winter thought as she prepared herself to tell the truth. "As you know, after Aiden’s death, things have gotten... a lot more complicated in Goldmine Realty. I need it to stabilize quickly, so I need the company to handle a huge project. It’s been fairly difficult to find one these days."

Sebastian clenched his fist.

He had been trying his best to find a bigger project for them, but nobody trusted him yet. He might be the CEO of a multi-million dollar company, but he was still a baby in these tycoon’s eyes.

If things went according to what happened in his previous life, he’d get his first big project roughly seven months after he married Winter, but Winter didn’t want to wait that long...

"That’s why I’m setting up a meeting for you and Sebastian, hoping that you two will come to an agreement of some sort, and the company can recover quickly," Winter told everything to Lucien.

She would be sad if Lucien turned his back after this, but she understood. She had been quite dishonest towards Lucien, after all.

Meanwhile, Lucien didn’t react for the first five seconds until he sighed, "I don’t understand you, Winter. I’ve been telling you over and over that you can always call me if you need help. You could’ve just told me directly, and I’ll tell my secretary to prepare a proposal for our companies to work together," Lucien slowly grabbed Winter’s hand and rubbed it gently, "Then, maybe after that, we can grab lunch or something. It’s not difficult, right?"

Winter gulped.

Lucien made it sound so easy, but she just couldn’t believe he had enough friendly affection towards her to help with such a big and risky project.

She could feel his sincerity. He was serious about helping her, and it made her feel guilty because it made her feel like a widow who begged for money.

"I-I didn’t think you’d be kind enough to help me directly..."

"I will help you. Winter, you are my—"

"Okay, that’s enough," Sebastian interrupted. He separated Winter and Lucien’s hands and shielded Winter with his body again. He had been tolerant enough to let Lucien talk with Winter, but he had to quickly interrupt or Winter might leave him for Lucien.

If Winter was logical enough, it wasn’t difficult to see that she’d fare so much better with Lucien.

Lucien was closer to her age, more mature and experienced, and was already a successful businessman, unlike Sebastian who was just starting.

On top of that, Lucien didn’t have a psycho mother, unlike Sebastian.

Yet, Sebastian still refused to let go of his wife. He killed himself in his previous life with the hope of reuniting with Winter, and nothing would stop him from doing so.

"As what we have agreed upon, Mr. LeBlanc, we can talk about the details of our agreement tomorrow in the Goldmine Realty office. Or I can always come to yours. The arrangement can be done easily," Sebastian said. He sounded formal, but there was a hint of threat in his voice. "You shouldn’t bother yourself with the business talk right now. Why don’t you go to your table and wait for the auction to start?"

Lucien scowled at Sebastian, who wasn’t affected at all by his dangerous glare. In the end, Lucien turned around and left.

Sebastian let out a relieved sigh. He looked over his shoulder and saw Winter frowning at him, "Why do you have to interrupt? Things are going well between us. He’s going to help Goldmine Realty."

"You don’t need to let him hold your hands for that. Besides, Lucien and I have made a deal. So all is good," Sebastian said. He turned to face Winter and wrapped her hands in his. Sebastian stared at her and said, "Trust me, Winter. I will protect you, and all the things that Aiden left for you. It’s my promise."

Sebastian kissed Winter’s hand and smiled, "The event is about to start. Why don’t we find our table?"

...

Winter nodded absentmindedly.

She was stunned by Sebastian’s gesture just now. Because for a split second, she saw Aiden in Sebastian’s eyes.

His promise, gesture, the way he stared at her, and the warmth he exuded.

Everything felt like Aiden had been revived and stood in front of her, holding her hands to assure her that everything would be okay.

It didn’t make sense.

Aiden and Sebastian looked completely different, but they had the same warmth as if they came from the same womb.

As if this Sebastian truly came to her life to protect her after Aiden was gone.

Winter suddenly remembered one of the many dreams where Aiden said something about Sebastian.

-

’You have Sebastian to replace me, Winter. He will protect you. After all, he is my—’

-

In those dreams, Aiden never specified who Sebastian was for him, and Winter didn’t dare to speculate.

She usually thought of those dreams as nothing but nonsense, but not anymore.

’Does that mean this Sebastian is totally different from the Sebastian that ruined my life?’ Winter asked herself. She stared at Sebastian’s broad shoulder, and her doubt only worsened. ’If you’re truly different from that monster, does that mean I can trust my heart to you? My heart is already broken to pieces, if you break it as well, then I will have nothing.’

Winter continued following Sebastian to their round table until they stopped. She snapped out of her daze when Sebastian said, "I think I can ask the staff to put us in different seats."

Winter followed Sebastian’s line of sight and saw Lucien sitting at the same table, alongside Patricia.

"Wow, I can’t believe we’re on the same table, Winter," Patricia chuckled. "Have a seat, let’s enjoy the night."

"You can sit next to me, Winter," Lucien offered while patting the seat next to him.
