Chapter 80: Chapter 80

"Hm, well, I do have a charity auction event to attend in New York this Saturday. I was about to cancel my attendance, but if I can meet you there, then I’ll fly back to New York," Lucien said, emphasizing Winter’s attendance. "I’ve been worrying about you, Winter. You and Aiden are two inseparable lovebirds, and I know that you are devastated by his sudden passing. So, seeing you in person would give me relief."

Winter already knew about this charity event, she was just baiting Lucien into agreeing, so she could meet him with Sebastian. Hopefully, Sebastian was savvy enough to get a contract with Lucien.

"I’d be more than happy to see you there," Winter said, and she wasn’t lying, because Lucien’s presence could be a breakthrough for her company.

"Oh? You’re excited to meet me, huh?" Lucien said.

Winter sensed that Lucien was delighted with what she said just now, but she didn’t understand why. They were just acquaintances at best.

"Then, do you need me to pick you up? Just tell me where you live in New York, and we can go together to that charity event."

"Ah, thank you for the offer, but I will go with my driver," Winter rejected. "I do hope that you won’t just leave during the event, though. We have a lot to catch up on, right?"

"Then, I’ll see you there, Winter. I miss you."

Winter felt something was wrong with the last sentence uttered by Lucien, but she dared not to question it.

’Why do I feel like he’s being a little flirty with me?’ Winter asked herself. But she quickly denied her suspicion, ’No, why would a man like Lucien LeBlanc flirt with a widow? I think I’m getting too confident with myself.’

Thus, after curbing her suspicion, she replied, "I also miss you, Lucien. See you at the charity event."

"Yes."

...

...

Winter felt so awkward because she waited for Lucien to hang up the call.

Yet, he didn’t, and now they were stuck listening to each other’s breaths. She felt all tingly listening to his breath that gradually got heavier each second because it sounded like he was enjoying himself or some sort.

’Okay, that’s enough, Winter. He is your savior, you shouldn’t suspect him of doing nasty stuff like this.’

"Uh, I’m hanging up now."

Beep.

Winter let out a relieved breath after she hung up.

Lucien’s sudden call made her heart race, and his overly friendly tone made the introverted Madam even more nervous.

"Well, at least I’ve secured his attendance at that charity auction event. It’s time to tell Sebastian about this."

**

Winter used the VIP elevator and headed to the CEO’s office at the top of the office. When the elevator door was opened, she saw none other than Cindy, her adopted sister, who wore modest attire to the office.

She was surprised but wasn’t sure if she should be happy or not about this change.

She had a feeling that something must’ve happened last night. Because there was no way the stubborn Cindy would suddenly change her way.

’And I don’t think she will change her behavior overnight,’ Winter added.

She walked to the secretary’s desk with sure steps. Her heels tapped the floor in a structured rhythm, which made her footsteps very discernible.

Iris and Cindy turned their heads at the same time, and Winter could see two completely different reactions from them.

Iris’ face brightened, she had a big smile when she saw Winter.

But Cindy couldn’t even hide her scowl, so it was already confirmed that she dressed modestly as a form of damage control because she didn’t want to get kicked out of this company.

Winter gave both of them an amicable smile and commented, "It seems that our secretary already has an apprentice now."

Iris laughed mirthlessly, "Well, she might not look like it, but she’s quite capable. It’s easy to teach her."

"Hear that, Cindy? You can be a capable secretary if you stop acting like a slut and focus on your job instead," Winter said. Her voice was sweet as sugar, but the mockery was clear as day.

It took Cindy a great deal of self-control not to explode in front of her sister. She always hated how Winter seemed to never lose her temper.

She always looked elegant and well-mannered, even though the reality was far from it.

Winter was greedy, selfish, and stupid. She could get her position right now because she had successfully tricked and killed Aiden.

As much as she wanted to scratch Winter’s face with her nails, her mother-in-law told her not to act impulsively in front of Winter.

This woman might be stupid, but she was still the owner of Goldmine Realty and all of Aiden’s assets. So it wouldn’t be hard for Winter to fire Cindy and make her life harder by informing other companies not to hire her.

-

’That woman is very toxic. Play smart, or you’ll suffer. Get it?’ Camilla warned Cindy on the phone last night. ’Don’t get baited by her. She’s just finding your weakness to exploit.’

-

Thus, Cindy smiled back at her and said, "You’re right, Sis. I should’ve just worked hard, so I can be a good secretary for Mr. Saenz. Who knows what would happen next? Maybe he will pick me over you, right?"

Cindy was obviously trying to provoke her, but Winter didn’t seem to be bothered, let alone threatened.

She found it amusing instead.

But Iris didn’t take it too kindly and immediately reprimanded her, "Do you know who you’re talking to right now? Madam Winter is the owner of this company. It doesn’t matter whether you’re her sister or not. You’re being rude!"

"It’s alright, Iris. My sister has always been like this, so it’s normal," Winter pacified her friend. She shifted her gaze back at Cindy and said, "I’d love to see you try. It’s not like I’ll lose anything if I get a divorce. The company is under my name, you know."
