Madam Wants To Divorce Her Second Husband -
Chapter 55
Chapter 55: Chapter 55
"But Iris told me to serve you instead," Cindy said. "I asked her if I could do anything to help her workload, but she said that I don’t have to help her because I wasn’t as good as her."
"Did she really say that?" Sebastian frowned. He had been working with Iris for a while before she was fired. Iris was a hardworking woman, and she would never step out of her line outside of work.
He couldn’t imagine a dedicated secretary like Iris refusing help from an intern who genuinely wanted to assist.
Sebastian stared at Cindy with scrutinizing eyes, unsure if he could believe her.
"Sorry, Boss. I was just following orders. I thought it would help me familiarize myself with the job more. But maybe Iris doesn’t want competition..." Cindy murmured, lowering her head as if she was really puzzled by this.
"I’ll call Iris then. This is clearly unprofessional behavior. She needs to understand that you’re not her competition," Sebastian said.
Cindy quickly shook her head out of fear. "P-please don’t do that, Seb—I mean, Sir."
"Why not?"
"Because I don’t want to create a hostile environment. If she gets scolded because I reported this to you, she will make my life harder," Cindy said. "I don’t want to get bullied over this small problem."
Sebastian pondered while staring at Cindy’s eyes.
He had been working with Cindy for one and a half years after Iris got fired, and Cindy was even better at her job than Iris, probably because she was younger and more efficient.
In those years of working together, Cindy had never shown any sign of trickery or deceit. She was honest with her work, although he disliked her constant flirting, which made him uncomfortable.
But everything changed that night when he passed out after drinking too much and woke up naked with her in a hotel bed.
If Cindy was lying right now, he could call her out with a simple method.
"Then, what can I do to make you feel better in this office? Clearly, Iris has made you uncomfortable. It’s unforgivable how cold she’s been to a new intern," Sebastian asked.
Cindy thought she had gotten the green light from Sebastian to continue with her lie.
She tried her best not to giggle like an idiot at the thought of removing the first obstacle of her life.
Iris wasn’t a bad woman. She had briefed Cindy on all the tasks she needed to do as a secretary.
The workload was intense, of course, but Cindy was more than willing to bear it as long as she could spend more time alone with Sebastian.
She needed to be his only secretary to achieve that and knew she was more than capable of handling the job.
Iris never spoke badly to her, though Cindy noticed that Iris sometimes looked at her with a condescending gaze.
But that didn’t matter, right? Iris would be out of this company soon.
’I’m sorry, Iris. You’re not bad. But you need to step aside so I can be Mr. Rich and Handsome Latino’s girlfriend,’ Cindy thought as she set up her emotion to look like she was actually reluctant. She then said, "I-I don’t know, Sir. But I think I can handle her job as a secretary. Maybe you should send her to another department or... uhm... I don’t want to sound mean, but maybe you should fire and compensate her. She’s no longer in her twenties, and I heard she has a family at home."
"She should know her age. Maybe she should stay home and let her husband do everything for her, right? It’s time for her to look after her kids instead," Cindy suggested with a sheepish smile, acting sweet. She expected Sebastian to see her as a cute little trophy wife who did nothing.
After all, that was what Winter did the whole time, right?
She did absolutely nothing at home and let Aiden work his butt off. Yet, that man still loved her deeply, even though Winter had two miscarriages. If Cindy was on Winter’s shoes, she’d be too ashamed to show her face to her husband, two miscarriages were so shameful for a woman!
’I think it’s because she’s too old. If I’m the one who gets pregnant with Sebastian’s or Aiden’s child, I’d be a baby factory!’ Cindy thought.
Cindy expected Sebastian to be amazed by her because she had said everything that men usually wanted to hear. They wanted a beautiful and obedient wife that agreed to everything they say or do.
But she was wrong.
Sebastian’s gaze darkened as he looked irritated by her.
"S-Sebastian? Is there something wrong?" Cindy asked nervously. She tried to keep her smile, even though she was scared of what would happen next.
Sebastian was angry because his assessment of Cindy was proven to be correct. This woman was still as vicious as ever.
She had that innocent and hardworking look in her eyes, but she still used deceit to manipulate everything in her favor, including subtly telling Sebastian to fire Iris, an experienced secretary who never made any trouble or significant mistakes.
’Maybe I should be thankful to this woman for scheming against me in my previous life. Now I realize how naive and ignorant I was to be tricked by Cindy and also my mother,’ Sebastian thought. He was about to open his mouth and reprimand Cindy for suggesting such a twisted idea. He couldn’t transfer her out for the sake of his bet with Winter, but he wanted to stop Cindy from making such subtle suggestions in the future.
But before he said something, another voice interrupted him.
"Oh my, what is this?" Sebastian and Cindy turned their heads at the same time towards the door. It was already wide open, with Winter standing in the middle, holding a cup of coffee.
Winter gave both Sebastian and Cindy a condescending gaze. "I was just out here making a cup of coffee before discussing an important business plan with the CEO, and I found out that an intern asked for him to fire a secretary. The audacity is appalling."
