Chapter 45: Chapter 45

Cindy scoffed at the annoyance on her mother’s face. Gina obviously wanted to argue, but Cindy cut her off. "I don’t care if you don’t believe me, Mom. Your disbelief won’t change that Sebastian is in love with me."

Cindy walked upstairs, leaving Gina stunned by her daughter’s defiance.

"What’s wrong with you, Cindy?" Gina murmured. She sighed as she grabbed her phone and searched for Winter’s contact.

Her fingers hovered on the call button, but she decided not to call Winter.

Gina hesitated because she was afraid of getting an answer she didn’t want to hear.

Winter already told Gina that she didn’t love her second husband, so Winter’s new husband might share the same dislike for her.

Gina had a weak heart and didn’t want to be distressed by the idea that Cindy might have ruined her sister’s marriage.

Thus, Gina put her phone down and took a deep breath. ’Let’s just wait for Winter to come so I can ask her directly.’

Cindy returned to her room. She threw herself on the bed and rolled around in glee as she recalled her interactions with Sebastian today.

Sebastian was so cool and handsome that she couldn’t get her mind off his face, especially when he stared at her with brooding eyes.

She didn’t know what he was thinking, but Cindy was convinced that Sebastian was probably admiring her beauty in silence, not wanting to be too direct because he was under Winter’s watchful gaze.

Luckily, Cindy was smart enough to get Sebastian’s phone number by checking it through the secretary’s computer. So she didn’t need to ask Iris, who didn’t like her much.

’Or Winter. I’m sure Winter would explode if I asked for Sebastian’s number,’ Cindy thought. ’Geez, she needs to understand that she won’t be well-loved forever. She has an expiry date too.’

Cindy grabbed her phone and then scrolled through her contacts until she found his number under the name ’Sebby’.

She also put heart emojis next to his name.

Cindy grinned and then pressed the call button.

It took Sebastian a while until he finally picked up the call.

"Who is this?" Sebastian asked in a lukewarm tone since the number wasn’t registered on his phone,

"S-Sebastian, it’s me, Cindy, your new secretary," Cindy replied meekly, hiding her excitement so Sebastian wouldn’t find her repulsive.

"How did you get my number?" Sebastian asked, his tone was still lukewarm.

Cindy wondered whether that lukewarm tone was directed towards her or if he was just in a bad mood.

But she was inclined to believe the latter because she hadn’t done anything wrong to deserve his contempt.

"Um, Winter gave it to me and told me to contact you," Cindy replied. "I-I think she just wants us to bond better as in-laws. S-sorry if I’m disturbing you, Sebastian."

"Did she really give my number to you?"

"Y-yes, you can ask her if you want," Cindy said, knowing full well that Winter and Sebastian were on bad terms so her lie wouldn’t get uncovered soon.

Cindy heard an audible sigh from the other side of the call. Then Sebastian replied, "No, I believe you. Sorry, but I’m about to go home now. I’ll save your number."

"It’s okay, Sebastian. See you tomorrow at—"

Beep.

"—work."

Cindy pouted when Sebastian ended the call abruptly. He could’ve been a bit more polite to her.

Her annoyance didn’t last long, as she guessed Sebastian must’ve been in a terrible mood because of Winter.

After all, Winter showed so much anger when Cindy and Sebastian stared at each other. He was probably preparing himself for a long couple’s fight in their home.

"Well, I hope it’s a big fight so they can get a quick divorce," Cindy murmured. "I deserve to have a chance with him too."

**

Sebastian clicked his tongue as he ended the call abruptly.

He wasn’t in the mood to talk with Cindy—or anyone else except with Winter. He wanted to clarify a few things so their already-strained relationship wouldn’t worsen.

Sebastian headed to the penthouse with his car, tapping the steering wheel as his mind ran wild with hundreds of possibilities.

He didn’t want to fight with Winter. He had enough of that already.

But at this point, a fight between them was inevitable, especially after he discovered that Cindy was Winter’s sister.

His phone rang again as he was driving. He checked the caller ID, and his gaze darkened when he saw it.

He didn’t want to accept the phone call, but he had no choice.

"What is it, Mom?" Sebastian asked while he continued driving.

"Son, I heard that you just got a new secretary. Why didn’t you tell Mom about it?"

Sebastian clenched the steering wheel. He didn’t know which employee in the company was Camilla’s henchman, but she probably had plenty of people planted to watch his every move.

Thus, he had nothing to hide, at least not now. "It’s Winter’s sister. She brought her to the office as an intern and now works under me."

"Is she pretty? I’m sure she’s prettier than Winter, right?" Camilla asked.

Sebastian ought to lie as always, but he couldn’t bring himself to lie this time, not when the winner was obvious. "My wife is the prettiest, Mom."

"Wrong answer, Sebastian Saenz."

Sebastian’s heart skipped a beat when he heard his mother’s sudden cold tone.

"I told you not to fall in love with that stupid wench, and here you are, calling her the prettiest," Camilla complained. "I would’ve been happier if you just said both of them are ugly."

"So, why don’t you repeat your answer to make Mommy happy? Tell me both of them are ugly, so I will be relieved," Camilla ordered coldly.

Sebastian gritted his teeth as he tried to repeat what she ordered.

But he couldn’t.

He was still in a terrible mood because of Winter and Cindy’s situation, and his mother didn’t help at all.

Thus, he replied, "I’m not blind. My wife is the prettiest, and nothing will change that."
