Madam Wants To Divorce Her Second Husband -
Chapter 44
Chapter 44: Chapter 44
Winter was so lucky to have such a hunky second husband who could run a company, just like her late first husband, who had also been charming and incredibly wealthy.
Winter’s life was filled with wealth, luck, and handsome men. She was well-loved by everyone and never faced any hardship, unlike Cindy, who had to ’know her place’ and accept the harsh reality that nobody truly put her first in their eyes.
For the first time in her life, Cindy realized how unfair life had been to her, and she was ready to retaliate.
She wanted to fight for what she wanted, even if that meant competing against her sister.
’I don’t want to live in Winter’s shadow forever,’ Cindy told herself as she had a resolution. ’I want what she has. Winter has enjoyed a beautiful and wealthy life with two handsome men for years, so now it’s my turn to be happy!’
"Do you think I will cause trouble in Winter’s office? Mom, have you ever seen me act out? Have I ever raised my voice in front of you or Winter?"
Gina was caught off guard by Cindy’s sudden hostility. "T-that’s not what I mean, Cindy. I’m just worried because this is your first internship. You need to make a good impression. Winter might offer you a proper job once she notices your effort, it’d be good for your future, right?"
Cindy rolled her eyes. She had had enough of her mother defending Winter for no goddamn reason as if Winter was the center of the universe.
"I don’t need her permission to get a job in that office. She’s not even working there. All she does is visit the CEO’s office and leave. She contributes NOTHING to that company!"
"W-what are you saying, Cindy? Her late husband owned the company, and now it’s under her management as she inherited everything after his death."
The more Gina defended Winter, the angrier Cindy became.
It was ridiculous how she put up with Gina’s favoritism for years. She could’ve called her mother out for being unfair.
No, maybe she should’ve called her out now.
"You shouldn’t talk ill of your sister, Cindy. She’s the reason we can live comfortably right now. You know my pension wouldn’t cover our living costs in this good neighborhood."
"She’s also the one who put you through a good university. She paid your full tuition, so you didn’t need a student loan. She sacrificed a lot for us!" Gina desperately defended Winter because she believed it was the right thing to do.
Winter could’ve just abandoned them once she turned eighteen.
But she didn’t.
Winter took up student loans and worked her way up in a company as an accountant. She paid off her student loan and supported Gina and Cindy with her salary.
Even after marrying Aiden Kirk, she continued to support her family. She bought a two-story apartment in Brooklyn for them, on top of providing them a monthly allowance.
Winter truly showed that her connection with Gina was as deep as a mother-daughter relationship could get.
But Cindy didn’t feel the same.
She had a lot of bottled-up resentment towards her sister, but she hid it all for the sake of family harmony.
But now that she felt everything was so unfair for her, she felt her stomach churn at the thought of Winter acting as if she had actually done anything meaningful for her family.
"Yeah, and whose money did she use to pay for my tuition, buy this apartment, and give us a monthly allowance? That’s right, AIDEN KIRK’S MONEY!" Cindy said. "It’s all her late husband’s money. She contributes nothing other than being his wife. So don’t talk about sacrifice when she hasn’t sacrificed anything in her life!"
"Cindy!" Gina raised her voice, but at seventy, it didn’t sound menacing.
Cindy rolled her eyes. She got up from the sofa and said, "I don’t have any personal grudge against my sister. She helps us a lot, but you’re talking about her like she’s an angel who helps us during hard times. She’s not. She’s just very lucky."
"Besides, do you want to know something very funny about Winter, Mom?"
Gina turned around and saw Cindy leaning on the wall near the stairs. She had a malicious smirk that Gina had never seen before, as if Cindy had changed completely just a day after she entered Winter’s office.
She was afraid that Cindy would continue slandering Winter., but she kept staring at Cindy, waiting for her to speak.
"When I first met the CEO, her new husband, Sebastian Saenz, there was this... innate connection between us. A spark as our eyes meet," Cindy said. She curled her lips, thinking of the handsome man who sat at the CEO’s desk.
She remembered how the light hit him from behind, making him even more majestic.
Cindy had never been in love before, but she knew Sebastian was the one for her.
"And do you know Winter’s response when she realized that Sebastian and I obviously have a spark?" Cindy paused momentarily, savoring the fear in her old mother’s eyes. She wasn’t a cruel woman who wanted to see her own mother suffer, but Gina deserved to know that her daughter was not perfect.
"She got jealous. Angry that her new husband—who’s ten years younger than her, by the way—actually prefers a younger lady," Cindy claimed. "So she stormed out of the office after that, probably because she can’t accept the idea that she’s not the center of the universe. God knows what will happen in their house tonight."
Gina wanted to refute that statement.
She didn’t believe that Winter’s husband would be enamored by Cindy at first sight. She also refused to believe that Winter would react so badly. Gina knew very well that her first daughter wasn’t the type who’d wear her emotion on her face unless she had been severely taunted.
But if she voiced her rebuttal, Cindy would get angrier, thinking Gina was playing favorites again.
