Chapter 40: Chapter 40

The receptionist waited until four p.m., when most of the employees were clocking out.

She was worried that the woman Madam Winter had brought to the office might have slipped past her while she wasn’t looking.

She shuddered at the thought of Camilla’s wrath, that cruel loan shark who made her family’s life miserably. She didn’t know what would happen to her and her father if she failed even one task for her.

’If only we didn’t take that loan back then...’ the receptionist sighed.

Fortunately, she was saved when she saw the red-haired woman that Madam Winter brought with her. However, the receptionist noticed something strange about her.

She had this... very confident aura in her, from the way she strutted, the way she lifted her chin, and her eyes looking straight in full glimmer. She might not have had the face of a supermodel, but she certainly had the confidence of one.

’Huh? What’s wrong with her? I remember she was so meek and nervous when she first came with Madam Winter,’ the receptionist thought.

But her line of thought was broken quickly when the woman approached her desk and smiled. "Hi, do you still remember me?"

"I—yes, Miss. You came here with Madam Winter before," the receptionist replied perfunctorily. "C-Can I help you with something, Miss?’

"Mm, well, I just want you to know that I’ll be working here from now on as the CEO’s new secretary," Cindy said.

The receptionist’s eyes almost popped out of their sockets. She couldn’t hide her surprise. "M-Mr. Saenz secretary? Did he fire Mrs. Iris?"

"No, not at all. We’ll be working together, of course. Iris will be working as a regular secretary, and I will be working as a private one," Cindy claimed lightly. "My name is Cindy Hazard, by the way. You can call me Miss Cindy or Miss Hazard. But I think Miss Cindy is cuter, don’t you think?"

’Why is she getting overly familiar with me? Does she already know that I’m working for Madam Camilla? She said that she’s Mr. Saenz’s new secretary. So I guess it makes sense if he told her about his loan shark mom,’ the receptionist pondered. ’But I don’t understand why she got such a high position instantly. What’s her connection with Madam Winter? Or maybe it’s Mr. Saenz who likes her and wants her privately? Eh, that’s a bit odd since this woman isn’t prettier than Madam Winter.’

The receptionist had a lot of questions in her mind, but she dared not to ask because it might cross her boundaries. She already had enough problems with Madam Loan Shark.

However, Cindy was confident enough to continue making one claim after another. "By the way, I’m here to get a VIP access card to the CEO’s office since I’m a new secretary."

The receptionist thought it was inappropriate to do so since this woman hadn’t shown her ID card yet.

But she didn’t dare to refuse because of how confident this woman named Cindy was.

Thus, she reluctantly handed a VIP access card to Cindy and said, "Miss, please show me your office ID card first."

Cindy’s lips twitched.

Of course, she didn’t have one. She was just an intern, after all.

She could call her sister to demand the card, but her sister had left in a terrible mood because Cindy had charmed her husband with her extraordinary beauty.

’It’s not the best time to ask her. She needs to accept the reality before I can ask for more favor,’ Cindy considered. So, she confidently said, "I’m just a new employee, so my ID card hasn’t been issued yet."

"Then I can’t give it to you, Miss. I’m sorry."

"Well, if you need proof, I can just call Sebastian," Cindy said, boldly calling the CEO with his first name.

The receptionist instantly grew nervous. "M-Mr. Saenz is busy, Miss. Please don’t—"

"Well, I’m his favorite secretary. I mean, he said so; that’s why I can call him by his first name, right?" Cindy shrugged. "We have a history, you know."

"H-History?!" The receptionist’s jaw dropped. She was scared by the idea that she might get fired because Mr. Saenz’s lover reported her.

She found it weird that Mr. Saenz would cheat on Madam Winter only two days after their wedding day, but she wasn’t the one in charge. She didn’t know what the rich did with their money.

’Maybe he’s just too rich and bored, so he cheats on this blegh girl instead,’ the receptionist theorized. ’Madam Winter must’ve been hurting badly. Is that why she left the office in a terrible mood? Wait, but why did they come together in the morning?’

The receptionist’s mind began rambling nonstop with all the mysteries in front of her.

"Yep, history. Or else, how can I be a private secretary?" Cindy sighed. "So, can you give me the access card or not?"

"Y-yes! Please take this, Miss!" The receptionist quickly handed the card to Cindy to save herself from getting fired.

"Thank you, you’re so kind~," Cindy accepted the card and giggled. "By the way, can I get your name?"

"M-My name?" The receptionist frowned. Nobody had ever asked her name here because all she did was be a front desk receptionist, not someone you really need to get acquainted with.

"Yes, so I can remember you," Cindy smiled.

That smile was giving the receptionist pressure, and she reluctantly gave out her name, "Isabella. Miss."

"Oh~ Isabella," Cindy nodded perfunctorily but didn’t seem happy after getting her answer. "Listen to me, Isabella. We should work together, alright? I mean, we are both young and in need of a job. Though, I think my position is higher than yours."

"I-I don’t understand what you are implying, Miss," Isabella said. "I’m just doing my job."

"What I mean is, you need to be careful not to lose your job. Treat me well, and I treat you the same," Cindy smiled. "Who knows, I might own you in the future."
