Loving The Temperamental Adonis
Chapter 44: Jumping to her defense

Chapter 44: Jumping to her defense

As Liam parked his car in the parking garage with several cars parked in neat rows, he exited the car and helped Neil out, his shirt was already soaked in blood by the time they’d reached the parking garage of the building. To avoid drawing any unwanted attention of the few people in the lobby, Neil had to walk on his own as they entered through the high security glass doors of the lobby.

The complex apartment building Neil stayed in as Leo Bennett, was one of the best in the city, and their security systems were on check and they make sure to pay knee attention to all of their residents needs, and because Neil had personally warned the front desk staff at the lobby to never allow anyone into his property without his permission after the incident where the spoiled heiress had bought her way into his condo, they didn’t allow Davina into his condo and made her wait at the lobby.

When Neil and Liam walked into the luxurious lobby, they found the doctor sitting on the couch provided for visitors with her elegant long slender legs crossed. Noticing them, she got up and approached them. Davina was a beautiful young woman with lush short golden hair, mesmerizing hazel eyes, and an alluring body that would make a man’s jaw drop and make the women envious.

She had served in the military camp with Neil and Liam, but not as a soldier but a doctor. And her beauty didn’t go unnoticed by the few people present in the lobby, the whole time she had been waiting for Neil to return, the front desk staff had been whispering amongst each other and wondering if she was the girlfriend of the cold handsome man they all knew as Leo. No woman had ever come to visit him in his condo and even though she had claimed to be his close friend, they hadn’t allowed her to pass the lobby.

However, noticing how she walked towards the two handsome men walking into the lobby, the front desk staff and the few people in the lobby all turned to look at them. Was she really his girlfriend? She had been quite rude to all of them in the lobby when they denied her entrance, she had even threatened to make them lose their jobs like her father was the owner of the building. And most of the female receptionists in the lobby had silently hoped that she would be thrown out just like the other heiress when Neil arrived, but it seemed she indeed was a close friend.

"Hey, Leo," Davina addressed him with his disguise name as she was aware of the people around them at the moment. "I wasn’t given permission to enter your condo because the front desk staffs insisted that you weren’t expecting any visitors and I’m not in your guests list, can you please tell them that I am not a stranger to you?" She remarked with a smile while glaring slightly towards the stubborn receptionists, who had embarrassed her earlier by denying her entrance into Neil’s condo.

Neil didn’t have the strength to deal with any of the front desk staffs or even tell them to put Davina’s name in his guests list just like Liam’s name was in it, he only gave a nod of his head towards the staff and began to walk forward.

Davina noticed how his black shirt looked slightly damp at the side and could immediately tell he was bleeding, and seeing how he looked like he would collapsed anytime soon as he forced himself to walk, she moved closer to him and wrapped an arm around his waist to support him while making it seem like she was being intimate with him to the people. She didn’t like how they had embarrassed her earlier and decided to show them how close she was to the man they were all fantasizing about earlier In her presence.

"I got you. Let’s go in so I can check on the condition of your wound." She whispered to him softly so the people wouldn’t hear. However, the front desk staff who were now familiar with Neil’s cold indifference to women, were surprised he didn’t push the arrogant woman away and instead leaned into her as they walked towards the elevator.

When they reached Neil’s condo, he pressed in his complicated password before the door clicked open revealing his cold black and gray apartment room, that had no warmth of a family home. Immediately they entered, he collapsed onto the living room couch with all his body shaking violently.

"Damnit, Davina what’s wrong with him?" Liam asked worriedly as he noticed how Neil was shaking on the couch. "This couldn’t be because of the bullet wound, could it?" He questioned as he began to tear off Neil’s shirt to reveal the wound while Davina pulled open the medical bag she’d brought along with her from the hospital.

"Move aside let me take a look." She stepped in front of Liam and leaned down to check the condition of his wound and what was happening to his body. After a few check ups, she gave him an injection that stopped his body from shaking before she stood up straight.

Neil’s forehead was covered in sweat as his body slowly began to stabilize from his earlier tremors and he finally relaxed on the couch, however now the only discomfort he was feeling was from his bullet wound.

Davina took out the tools she needed to treat his bullet wound while explaining to Neil, "Your recent symptoms are a result of hypoglycemia. Essentially, when you skip meals and solely rely on those nutritional pills I warned you about before, your blood sugar levels drop. This causes shakiness and breathlessness because your body needs a consistent source of energy from regular food intake. It’s like trying to run on an empty tank. We need to adjust your diet and find a balance to avoid these side effects, Neil. No more nutritional pills, you need food."

"Well, thank goodness you are here to remind him of that again, Davina. He rarely eats and solely relies on those damned capsules to keep him going. Sometims I can’t help but wonder how he is still in such good shape without eating regularly." Liam chimed from the kitchen where he was getting himself a bottle of water from the fridge. He walked back into the living room and sat on the couch beside Neil, "What about the condition of his wound? I hope there is no infection?"

Davina shook her head, "Thankfully there are no signs of infection. He’d done well by removing the bullet promptly, but I must say, the incision made to extract it was a tad larger than ideal. Right now, the bleeding you’re experiencing is a result of that." She explained, and to distract him from the pain she was about to cause him by sewing the wound without a local anesthetic, as she hadn’t thought she would be needing it when he’d called her, she asked, "Did you remove the bullet by yourself?"

Neil, who was trying to hold in his pain by clenching his jaw tightly, replied, "No,"

"Hmm," Davina hummed as she began to sew his wound, "It seems the person wasn’t careful when making the incision because it looks pretty long. Who removed it for you?" She asked again.

Neil, who had his eyes tightly closed subconsciously replied, "Mimi removed it for me, she was very careful and gentle, don’t downgrade her effort, she isn’t a doctor but she still managed to remove the bullet."

Davina’s movement slightly paused at his words of defense, then she continued, "Mimi? Who is that?" She asked curiously as she realized it was a woman who had helped him remove the bullet.

Neil hadn’t even realized he’d said those words out a moment ago until he’d heard Davina’s question, he opened his closed eyes, "Nobody," he replied curtly and closed back his eyes. Mia had done her best in taking care of his wound and she wasn’t even a doctor, and when he heard how Davina downgraded her effort, he had subconsciously jumped to her defense before he could stop himself from even addressing her as Mimi.

Liam, who was sitting on the couch beside Neil, glanced at Davina. He noticed the slight shift in her expression as Neil jumped to_who was this Mimi anyway?_ defense. He only knew of Mia Harrison who lived in the building he’d picked up Neil an hour ago, he had never heard of this Mimi until now. However, he remained silent upon noticing his friend’s closed up expression after he’d mentioned Mimi. He had never seen Neil come to any woman’s defense until now.

Even though Davina was close to both of them, Neil had never come to her defense whenever Jason talked bad of her in their presence just to get under Neil’s skin. Jason had called Davina an incompetent doctor countless times just to get a reaction from Neil, but Neil would act like he hadn’t heard a word Jason said about the doctor. However, just now he had quickly jumped to a stranger’s defense. And that alone made Davina’s mood change.

After Neil’s wound was properly dressed and his body had stopped trembling, he left the living room to go and freshen up in his room while leaving Liam and Davina in the living room.

"Do you know who this Mimi is?" Davina asked Liam the moment they were left alone.

Liam shrugged, "I have no idea. Perhaps she was just some stranger who helped him remove the bullet." He said, then added when he noticed the doctor’s unconvinced expression, "You shouldn’t overthink this, I know how you feel about him and I believe among all the females in his life, you are the only one closest to him, and if there was a chance, I believe you guys will end up together." He assured.

Davina blushed at his words, "How did you notice my feelings for him?" She asked, as she was sure to hide it pretty well through out their years in the military.

Liam scoffed, "it’s pretty obvious, only my low EQ of a friend wouldn’t notice it. After all the times you’ve supported him, and even when you took a bullet for him and got injured, no one would do such a thing if they didn’t love someone." Liam had developed a liking for Davina when she risked her life for Neil in the camp, and since then, he had been hoping for them to become a couple. However, his friend didn’t seem inclined to settle down with anyone anytime soon.

"I did that impulsively to protect him," Davina sighed. "But based on how things are going, it seems he will never learn to love me in return. I will be traveling out of the country tomorrow, and when I return, I plan to confess my feelings to him," she turned to Liam with her captivating hazel eyes that could make a man weak in the knees, and requested, "Could you please speak on my behalf so that it will be easier for him to develop feelings for me when I come back?"

Liam, who couldn’t resist any of her requests, readily agreed, "Of course, I will do my best to persuade him to give a relationship a chance. When will you be back from your trip?"

"Next month. Take care of him and make sure he doesn’t have any of those capsules again, taking more of them can become poison to his body."
