Chapter 42: Did he just take her number?

By the time Mia finished playing the guitar for Neil, it was already sunset and the sky was already darkening through the window. And for some reason Neil wanted to leave and return to his house where he had nothing to remind him of his past life in Mirage mesa. Though he had found peace in this one day he stayed in this simple small room, he didn’t want that peace for long because it would only make him want to stay in a peaceful world and make him forget about his mission to avenge his parents and all the lives that had been lost.

Mimi was a part of the past he wanted so much to forget, but the more he saw her the more he wanted to know about her own past and what went wrong. But at this moment, he didn’t want to be anywhere close to her and the song that had brought him peace a moment ago, he wanted to return to his empty lonely condo where it would be him and himself. Furthermore, he was starting to feel a bit of discomfort from his bullet wound. He needed a doctor to check on the wound to make sure there was no infection.

Fortunately, the military doctor, who turned out to be Davina, was one of the few people Neil was close to. If he asked her to keep this incident a secret, she would respect his decision and treat him without letting a word out to his uncle. Thus, Neil pulled out his phone and send a text message to Davina and told her to be at his condo before he would arrive. Afterwards he sent another text to Liam.

[Can you drive downtown to whispering way in a few hours?]

Neil asked because he knew Liam might be busy doing his part of the mission, but then his friend’s reply was quick to come.

[Yeah, why? Don’t tell me you are there now]

Liam, who was currently driving home from work, eagerly awaited Neil’s reply. He was in a rush to get home because he had a beauty waiting for him in his bed. Due to their mission to uncover Da Kroll, Liam hadn’t had any fun with a woman in a long time. Today was a Saturday night and he wouldn’t be working the next day, so he had arranged for a high-class one-night stand through an online service.

However, upon receiving Neil’s message now, he realized he wouldn’t be able to enjoy his evening with the woman who was currently calling him at the moment. Nonetheless, his friendship with Neil was more important than some whore, so he ended the call and read Neil’s next message.

[Yeah, I’m there. I’m currently unable to walk which is why you’ve got to come down here to get me, but if possible make sure to dress like a commoner and park your car far away from the address I will be sharing with you.]

Liam was taken aback when he read the message. Unable to walk? What could be wrong with his friend? He thought, but when he saw the address Neil shared to him, he was astonished. What in the world was he doing in the apartment building where the Harrison’s live!

Liam had been the one to look into Mia Harrison’s background so he knew where she lived. And he also knew of the fact that she plays guitar_wait a second! She plays guitar, and Neil had currently ordered him to buy a guitar, could it be that he had bought a limited edition guitar for this Mia? Could it be that he had also spent the night in her house and was unable to walk because they had been doing something unholy and were caught in the act and his friend was beaten to disability?!

Liam had once been rendered unable to walk after being caught in bed with a married woman whose husband had been absent for many years and required another man to fulfill his marital duties. However, when the husband unexpectedly returned from his extended business trip and discovered them in the act, Liam was viciously beaten by the husband’s bodyguards, resulting in a temporary disability.

However, one thing Liam was sure about was that his friend was different. He had never seen Neil messing around with any woman, it was like he was immune to them. No matter how beautiful a woman was, his friend wouldn’t look at her twice, he would act like he hadn’t seen them and walk away. And most of the women that tried to seduce him, ended up in a very bad state.

Like when they were ordered to go to a formal banquet in disguise of one of the business men to investigate the host of the banquet. A woman had taken an interest in Neil and even went as far as to use her influential background connection to trace the mansion he had been living in when he took that disguise, she had stripped naked and awaited his return in the huge pool in the grounds of the mansion.

Liam could still remember what his friend had done to the woman when he found her in his pool. He had walked to the pool and nonchalantly picked up the her discarded clothes and walked back into the mansion while ordering the securities to throw her out of his property and make sure not to give her anything to cover the nakedness she was so willing to show.

So, if there was one thing Liam was sure about, his friend was immune to women, nor was he interested in men. He was like a lone man with no emotions whatsoever, he was too immersed in his missions to even give chance to any life entertainment. Even though they had been friends for twelve years now, Liam had never seen his friend laugh or even smile genuinely. He was like a lifeless stone with no hobby. Liam could bet his life that Neil wasn’t in whispering way because he went to have fun.

His disability to walk might be something serious. And thinking about this, Liam made a sharp U-turn and sped his car towards whispering way, he would find some shop and buy some commoner clothes on the way.

Back in Mia’s room, where Neil was already eating the dinner she’d brought for him without any hesitation as he was starving from all the weeks of having to depend on a nutritious pill instead of traditional meals. She was also eating at her reading desk with her back facing him. And when she was done, she walked to him and picked up his empty plate.

Before she could leave he spoke, "I will be leaving in an hour when a friend of mine gets here, will your neighborhood be clear by then?" He asked as he remembered her saying she didn’t want any of her neighbors to know of his presence in the apartment.

Mia was surprised. She had almost forgotten that he would eventually have to leave. After playing him her favorite song on the guitar, she had become comfortable with having him in her room, without worrying about the authorities searching for a criminal. However, she had also noticed that after she finished playing, he had been unusually silent and calm, his usual cold expression looked so nonchalant. He had ate the food she offered without hesitation this time.

"I...I will have to make certain that the cost is clear before you leave. But how are you going to walk out of the apartment when your legs are..." She hesitated to complete the word of pointing out his disability to walk, she knew how bad tempered he could get, and she didn’t want to say anything that would spoil this comfortable calm demeanor he had on now. And to her relief, he didn’t get angry and calmly said,

"Liam will need to enter the building to fetch me from the door. No worries, he will blend in with the crowd here," he reassured, noticing the look of concern on her face. While he personally didn’t care about others’ opinions, he couldn’t repay her kindness by tarnishing her reputation in society. He understood that some people were narrow-minded and seeing a man leaving a young woman’s room could damage her image.

However, recalling Liam’s background check up about the Harrison’s debt and Mia’s mention of finding a part-time job, Neil found himself asking for something he never thought he would ask a woman. But he did it in his own way.

"May I see your phone?" he requested, reaching out his hand for her to hand him the phone that was tucked away in her pocket. After a brief hesitation, she handed him the phone without questioning. But she couldn’t help but wonder what he was going to do with her phone.

But then she knew immediately. She watched in surprise as Mr. Ice Cube dialed a number on her phone, and his own phone, which was on the nightstand, immediately rang. He then returned her phone without saying anything. Did he just take her number without asking for it?
