Loving The Temperamental Adonis

Chapter 217: Pick a dress

The next morning, when Mia woke up to find herself in her bedroom, she was momentarily confused. She recalled waiting for Neil’s return in the living room, but everything after that was a blur. Did he bring her back to the guest room? She wondered as she pushed herself off the bed to freshen up. However, the moment she stood, a sharp pain in her head made her fall back onto the bed. The pain was so intense that she grabbed her head with both hands and moaned in agony.

It took a while before the pain subsided. Slowly, she stood again to test if it had truly passed, sighing in relief when she didn’t feel any more discomfort. What was that pain in my head? she thought as she freshened up and changed into a comfortable house outfit. She’d never experienced such discomfort in the head before, perhaps it might be because of stress. She decided as she went downstairs.

Since she didn’t wake up early, she expected Neil to have left for work. But as she descended the stairs, she caught him sitting in the living room, deeply focused on some documents. He wore a casual black tank top with black trousers, and the casual attire made him look even more handsome and less intimidating. His broad shoulders and muscular tattooed arms were on full display, emphasizing his rugged good looks.

For a moment she forgot she was walking down the stairs and stared at him longer than she intended, but as if sensing her gaze, he looked up from the documents. Their eyes locked, and Mia felt like a sneak thief caught in the act. She quickly looked away and resumed her walk down the stairs. She didn’t know how to react after their unsolved argument yesterday now that he was here. She’d waited for him last night so they could talk about the room thing, but now that she was standing five feet away from him, she didn’t even know where to start to explain her reasons.

It wasn’t healthy for their relationship if the first thing they did was argue on the first day of living together.

Neil noticed how she seemed like she was searching for words to say to him, but he didn’t give her the chance to speak. Without speaking to her, he got up from the couch and called the housekeeper to set the table for them as he’d been waiting for her to come down for breakfast before he’d go to work. He then waited in the dining area for her to join him.

When she walked into the dining area, Neil pulled out her chair for her without a word. She sat down quietly, believing he was still angry from their argument yesterday to the extent he wouldn’t speak to her. After making sure she was comfortable, Neil sat down beside her. None of them spoke, but when the food was served, Neil focused all his attention on Mia, serving her a variety of healthy breakfast items: fresh fruit slices, whole grain toast, scrambled eggs, and a smoothie made from greens and berries.

Mia didn’t complain, wanting to impress him as she believed it was her fault to have angered him last night. She obediently ate everything he placed on her plate. Noticing that he wasn’t eating but focusing solely on her, she began to place food on his plate as well. They ate in silence, but the silence was the most comfortable one to Mia. Despite the fact that he wasn’t speaking to her, he didn’t neglect her for a second, he glanced at her every now and then to make sure she was eating and if her plate was empty before placing more for her.

He even handed her a glass of milk when he noticed her choking, watching her with a concerned expression that he didn’t attempt to conceal as she drank it. All of his gestures filled her with warmth, causing her to regret her own behavior the night before. She shouldn’t have left their room; he had made many efforts to make amends, even without formally asking her out or proposing to her on one knee like she’d always dreamed of. His love for her was sufficient. Therefore, she resolved to engage in conversation with him to end the silent treatment.

But before she could say a word, she suddenly felt her throat constrict with nausea. She slammed her palm against her mouth and hurried toward the restroom in the dining area. Neil was immediately up and on her heels. He followed her to the restroom and quickly held up her hair as she began to throw up everything she had just eaten. The retching sounds filled the small room as she bent over the toilet, her body convulsing with each wave of nausea.

Neil, who’d never witnessed nor seen a woman have morning sickness, was worried sick as he watched her. After all the researches he’d done on pregnant women when he was in Verdantia, he didn’t want to take anything lightly with his woman and unborn child. He looked over his shoulder and yelled for the housekeeper, "Emily, call the doctor, now!"

Mia, despite her discomfort, quickly reached out and grabbed his trouser. She managed to speak between her heaves, "It’s just morning sickness. There’s no need to call a doctor..."

Neil looked down at her, his expression a mixture of concern and frustration. He gently stroked her back as she continued to throw up, not buying her words for a second. He would bring a special nurse to stay in the house and be around her everyday until she’d give birth. He decided as he kept stroking her back to make her more comfortable. While the middle aged housekeeper hovered nearby, unsure if she should call the doctor or not.

After a few more moments, Mia’s nausea began to subside. She leaned back, panting and pale, and Neil helped her to sit down on the cool tile floor. "Are you sure you’re okay?" he asked, his voice soft but filled with worry.

She nodded weakly, managing a small smile. "I’m sure. It’s normal... for pregnancy."

Neil sighed, still not entirely convinced but willing to trust her judgment. He crouched down on the floor and held her close, kissing the top of her head. "Alright. But if it gets worse, we’re seeing a doctor, no arguments."

Mia nodded, resting against him with her head leaning against his chest. After awhile, Neil helped her back to the dinning table, making sure she was comfortable before sitting down next to her again. He continued to serve her small portions of food, urging her to eat slowly and carefully this time.

"Tomorrow is the day of the banquet," Neil said a few minutes after they were done eating. "But if you are not feeling well, I don’t think you should attend. You can stay at home."

Neil knew that it was important for her to attend, as he planned to clear up any rumors attached to her name and make it clear to the world that she was carrying his child. Even though he wouldn’t be announcing their marriage yet, he wanted to announce their relationship. However, with her condition, he’d never force her to attend if she wasn’t strong enough. To his surprise, Mia laughed softly and said,

"Don’t worry, I can manage. I’m strong and in good health to stand with you tomorrow." She assured him, even though she wasn’t mentally prepared to be at another banquet after her experience at the Wallace birthday party. But she knew that with Neil beside her, nothing like that would happen again.

"I just have one issue, though," she said with an awkward smile. When Neil glanced at her worriedly and inspected her body, she laughed and said, "Not a health issue. I mean, I don’t have a suitable dress for the occasion."

She watched as he sighed in relief and reached out to tuck a few strands of hair behind her ears. "That’s not an issue you should worry about. I made some appointments days ago," he assured her, retrieving his phone from his pocket and browsing through it before handing it to her. "Here, look through these dresses and reply to the fashion house manager with which one you want. It will be delivered here tonight." Saying this, he leaned down and placed a kiss on her forehead. "Take your time. I’ll be in the room changing. I have to leave for the office in twenty minutes."

Mia watched in astonishment as he walked up the stairs, leaving his phone with her. She’d heard a lot of women in relationships complain about their partners never leaving their phones with them in her talk shows, and she’d experienced it with Owen a few times when they were still a couple. He’d never leave his phone in her hand or anywhere beside her. But here, Neil had done that without hesitation and even left it with her. What else could she possibly ask for?

She smiled to herself as she began to scroll through the screen to see the dresses, making a mental note never to make a big deal about him not proposing to her again.
