Loving The Temperamental Adonis
Chapter 109: The hidden plan

Chapter 109: The hidden plan

Mia suddenly felt an ominous chill down her spine at the tone of his dark, emotionless voice that fell on her ears. But then she smiled, "I won’t hate you, and I don’t believe you can kill anyone when angered because I have seen you in one of your bad moods."

Neil moved back and looked down at Mia’s face at her words. Inhaling her sweet scent, he said, "You don’t know anything about me, little one. So don’t jump into the conclusion that I can’t harm anyone. I can be a monster." He kissed the side of her head, and Mia found herself startled at the thought that she couldn’t like him any less if he were to be a monster, which she believed he wasn’t. Meeting his eyes, her cheeks turned warm.

She moved back and leaned against the wall, watching as his eyes bored into hers with an emotion she couldn’t read on his face. Though sometimes she felt wary of him, however most of the time, she felt safe in his presence. Just like now, she had never felt safer around a stranger like she felt around him.

"Um... would you like to eat something? I cooked for you." She whispered innocently when he didn’t tear his eyes away from hers.

"What could be more delicious than you." He breathed softly while using his fingers to trace her face. He watched as her cheeks reddened even more and a small smile broke his lips apart. "I like it when you get shy. Adorable."

Mia could feel the blood rush up to the root of her head at his words. She turned her head away from his face and looked down, but just then her eyes fell on a red stain on the sleeves of his white button up shirt. She frowned as she grabbed his hand, "Oh my goodness, are you hurt? You’re bleeding!" She exclaimed in worry but he pulled his hand back and smiled down at her worried expression.

"It’s not my blood. It’s someone else’s blood." He assured nonchalantly, and seeing that she was going to prod him more for answers, he pecked her lips. "Come show me what you cooked for me."

A huge mansion could be seen bathed under the moonlight, with it’s roof reaching up like a modern castle. The lights around it were blinding with countless securities standing guard around the grounds. The huge fountain in the middle of the mansion ground continued to spill out clean water, with the sound of it bringing a serene atmosphere to the night. But Inside the mansion, things were chaotic and tense.

Men wearing black attires could be seen standing around the grand living room with their heads slightly bowed to their boss who was in a foul mood, and they knew when he was in such a mood, he mustn’t be messed with.

"That’s good news." Remarked Kelvin as he listened to the words reported to him by his men. "We don’t need to get rid of him but let his own people do it for us. Neil Wayner has messed with the wrong person. He killed someone close to my heart, so he will pay for it. We won’t kill him, we will destroy him. And thanks to this unknown person who made it easier for us to get a hold of those papers buried away two years ago. We will submit it to the military and let them do the rest." He declared calmly. Though he had found a way to destroy the only man in the way of his business, he wasn’t happy.

He wasn’t happy because Neil had won over him by killing his other half. Kelvin had personally gone to Whispering way after his men tracked down Mia Harrison’s house, he had been happy that he would finally get back together with his long lost wife. He had even made an agreement to move her back into his mansion. But what he discovered had left him shocked and momentarily paralyzed.

Kelvin had gone there expecting to find his beautiful Ella. Instead, he encountered the woman who had raised the girl, whom he was certain he had killed that night years ago. This woman turned out to be Mariana’s nanny, not Ella. Kelvin became so furious that he grabbed her neck and demanded to know his wife’s whereabouts. It was then that she told him something he had been too afraid to accept before.

Remembering what she had told him, Kelvin used his leg to kick away the ash tray on the table in front of him. He then stood up to his feet cursing and slamming things away from his sight causing the men around him to move back in fear of being hit in the process of his rage.

After awhile when he had calmed down, one of his men mustered the courage to step forward and speak. "M_Mr. Rodrigo, what about your daughter..." He began, but seeing the deadly glare shot to his way, the man quickly amended his words,"I mean the other girl who looks like Miss Mariana. What should we do with her after Neil Wayner is out of the picture by tomorrow?"

Before Kelvin could speak, Owen, who sat on the opposite side of the couch as his right-hand man, interjected. "Mr. Rodrigo, we had an agreement yesterday, remember? Mia must not be harmed. I promised to take care of everything. She doesn’t remember who you are; her memories of you seem to be erased somehow. After we deal with that man, I will take her away from the City. She won’t cause you any trouble, I promise."

They had already made arrangements to bring down the infamous Neil Wayner by tomorrow, but Owen could never agree to get rid of the woman he loved. He had plans for their future together and wouldn’t allow anyone to harm her, not even his boss.

Kelvin looked at the young man he had come to trust, seeing his own younger self in him. They had so much in common. That’s why he made him his right-hand man. "If you can assure me that she won’t come after me and disrupt my empire, then I will let her go. But remember, if I release her and she interferes with our plans, I will kill you both. Do you understand?" he asked patiently.

"I understand. You have nothing to worry about because I’m one hundred percent certain Mia will come to despise Neil Wayner by tomorrow. She won’t disrupt any of your plans, mark my words," he confidently reassured.

The sun rose from the horizon with birds songs swirling around the quiet atmosphere of Neil’s spare mansion where he had spent the night before along with Mia who had been persuaded to stay until morning because of the late hours and how far the place was to Whispering way.

Mia, who laid curled up on the bed opened her eyes to the bird songs. The sound was so serene she wanted to sleep more but she dared not knowing today was the day she was to travel with her mom. Last night she had decided to spend the night here because of the late hour. She remembered serving Neil’s dinner and watching him eat her cooking while giving her compliments for how delicious her cooking was.

They had eaten in the dinning room in silence until he gave her a compliment out of nowhere. However, apart from that, he was silent the whole time with his expression appearing a bit lost in thoughts. And after their meal she had said she would be leaving but he had told her. "Don’t. It’s late. Stay for the night," she had wanted to argue with him, but he had then added,"Please." In a calm gentle tone that made every word of protest disappear from her mind.

Remembering how he had also asked her to sleep on his bed, a blush rose to her face. He had promised not to do anything else but hold her to sleep. And he had done just that. He seemed to be exhausted, because he fell asleep few minutes after holding her on the bed. She didn’t know what to call their relationship as she wasn’t even sure if he liked her in the same way she did, but then she hadn’t questioned his actions as she didn’t also mind any of them.

If they were to put a name to this relationship, she would like to know him much better than what she knew about him now. All she knew was that he was a substitute professor and nothing more.

Mia turned to her side, where he had slept the previous night, and noticed his absence, causing her to furrow her brow. He had woken up before her, she realized as she got out of bed and searched the house for him. However, she couldn’t find him, so she decided to call his phone. To her surprise, when she took her phone out of her bag, she discovered multiple missed calls from her mother.

"Oops!" She exclaimed and decided to call her mother back, but then a message from Neil appeared on her screen.

[I had to leave for some important matters. I arranged for a driver to pick you up and take you home. If I manage to get away, I’ll come to you. I have something important to discuss.]

Mia read his message with a slight smile and began composing a reply. "I’m eager to hear what you have to say," she muttered to herself as she typed the response and sent it to him. She heard a loud honk outside, indicating that the driver had arrived.

Quickly slipping on her shoes and jacket, Mia grabbed her bag and dialed her mother’s number as she left the mansion. However, her mother’s phone was unreachable. She tried several times but received the same response. Frustrated, she gave up and decided to explain to her mother why she hadn’t returned home the previous night.

Mia climbed into the white car waiting for her outside the gate. The driver greeted her with a smile in the rearview mirror before starting the journey. Along the way to Whispering Way, Mia made up her mind to inform her mother that she wouldn’t be accompanying her on the trip, as she wanted to take advantage of the holidays to get to know a certain someone better.

She quickly devised a few excuses to give her mother once she arrived home, hoping to avoid being coerced into going on the trip. Mia smiled as a perfect idea popped into her head. When they arrived at Whispering Way, she thanked the driver and headed straight to their apartment, feeling lighthearted and completely unaware of the life-altering event that awaited her.
