Chapter 104: Until we meet again

Mia watched as his expression turned into a knowing look before it changed into his usual blank one. "I see." He muttered softly, then he continued, "I have asked someone to bring you some food when you wake up. And the nurse in charge of looking after you said that your Mom and your friends came to see you in the morning and your Mom would be here again this evening. Take care of yourself and make sure you take the medicines given to you. I think you will be discharged anytime soon and would be allowed to go home and rest well. I will leave you to rest now." Saying this, he turned to leave but stopped when he felt her cold fingers grip his index finger.

Neil turned over his shoulder and glanced down at her slender fingers gripping his, and when he looked at her face, he felt a twinge of pain grip his heart at the longing look she had on. She looked like a small child afraid of being abandoned. When he first started to get interested in Mia Harrison, he knew he was risking not just his mission but his own freedom. Yet he had gone on and allowed himself to somehow get attached to her to the point he was more worried about her health than he was worried about his mission when she passed out on the stage three days ago.

And though he had been the most talked about person in the city as what happened on the screen of that event was shown not just to the school but to the world, he had been dismissed as a substitute from the University. And now that his face was revealed to the world, if his enemy were to see his face on that screen, there was no doubt the person would know him as Xavier Galverra as he had the same looks as his late father. It would only be a matter of time before the person would know him as Neil Wayner and then they would do everything to bring him down for messing with their illegal activities.

"I have to go, little one. Release my finger." He said to her with a gentle voice that made her heart beat increase. However, Mia only tightened her hold as she had a feeling she wouldn’t see him again if she were to let go. He seemed distant to her today than he was on the day of the event when he helped her into that beautiful dress. She didn’t know where her clinginess came from, but she wanted him to stay with her in this lonely room that only made her want to flee the room in fear that something was going to harm her.

"Please, don’t go. Stay for awhile." She muttered in a small voice that was barely above a whisper but he heard her loud and clear.

"I can’t stay with you anymore, querida. I made a mistake of letting you into my life when I was supposed to ignore you, and I won’t make that same mistake again. You have a life ahead of you, don’t get used to having someone like me around you. Release my finger and lay back down, little one." He breathed softly, his usual hardened expression appearing warm and tender as if he was indirectly telling her goodbye.

"I don’t want to let go, I have a feeling you won’t ever show yourself to me again. I’m sorry if what happened between us on that day ruined your reputation as a professor but I never wished for it to happen that way...I_i am really sorry..." She cried out with hot tears of humiliation and remorse steaming down her flushed cheeks. She knew what happened that day would make him lose his job and even make it hard for him to get a job somewhere else because Ivy Grove was a place where the professors were not permitted to have any relationship with their students.

Seeing how pityful she looked with tears streaming down her face, Neil felt like a jerk. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath before opening them again. He turned to her and used his fingers to wipe off the tears on her face tenderly. "Don’t cry for me, little one. I am not worth that liquid. You won’t be asking me to stay here with you if you have any idea what a monster I could be." He whispered softly as he tucked a few strands of hair behind her ears then gently caressed her cheek. "You are making it hard for me to get back to my old life." He breathed as he leaned down on her.

Mia felt her heart beat quicken and her face heated up as she saw him leaning down. She didn’t understand what he meant, but deep down she knew he wasn’t a monster. She knew what a monster was because she had seen and heard one in her nightmare.

When Mia saw his face inching closer to her, she closed her eyes. She felt his warm lips at the side of her mouth. His lips lingered there for more than a second before he pulled away and stood up straighter.

"Even though I would like to stay with you, Harrison. I can’t, I am being watched and I have to leave." He explained as he pulled his finger away from her grip.

"By who?" Mia questioned in confusion.

"Didn’t I tell you I would have to kill you before I tell you anything about me? Now, stop being a curious kitten and rest." He said with a deep frown on his face. But of course Mia would never listen to him, she spoke again.

"Will...will I see you again?" She asked, her voice filled with a desperate hope.

Neil sighed. She wouldn’t see him again, not in Ivy Grove and not in his condo as he would be moving back to another mansion. However, instead of just telling her they would never meet again, Neil found himself saying, "We might meet again. I will come to see you tomorrow before you get discharged and if I don’t come..." He took out a card from his pocket and handed it to her, "You can come to this address when you feel better."

Mia took the card but she didn’t even look to see the address and instead pulled his hand as he was about to leave. She took him by surprise when she pushed herself up and stood on her bended knees, then she pulled at his hand to make him lean down, she then pressed her lips on the side of his mouth as she didn’t want to kiss him when she hadn’t freshened up yet. She knew she wasn’t supposed to do such a thing after what happened the other time but she just wanted him to know that she was serious about him.

Neil was taken aback as he felt her lips pressed to the side of his mouth. He didn’t push her away and remained in a bent position until she moved away from him and sat down on the bed. Raw desire surged into his blood making his mind go blank for a moment as he looked into her mischievous innocent brown eyes. He wanted to crush her beneath him and feel every inch of her skin but he knew better than to follow his desires instead of his head.

"Until we meet again, Harrison." He said softly as he patted her head. Then without waiting for her to say anything else, he turned and walked away. As Mia watched his retreating imposing figure, she felt a weird tightening sensation in her heart and she pressed a hand to it and murmured. "Until we meet again."

Not long after Neil left her in the room, a nurse walked in and did a few check ups on her and assured her that she would be discharged tommorow. When the IV drip was removed, Mia took a shower in the bathroom of the hospital room that looked more fancy than any bathroom she had ever used. The entire time she was taking the shower, her mind kept swirling back to her Ice cube. She wanted to know more about him but he didn’t seem like the kind to talk about himself or answer any questions. Not to mention he appeared a little distressed earlier.

What could be bothering him and why wasn’t he telling her anything about himself?

With a sigh, Mia dismissed his thoughts from her mind as he said they would meet again, which meant they still had more days to know more about each other in the future. Those thoughts put her mind at ease and she stepped out of the bathroom feeling refreshed and clean.

She ate the dinner brought to her by the nurse and moved around the hospital room that was still giving her a sense of unease and the urge to go home. Later on, she laid curled up in bed waiting for her mother’s arrival as Leo had told her that she would come but even though the clock clicked midnight, her mother didn’t come to the hospital.
