Love In Disguise: Rebirth of the Heiress -
Chapter 108
Chapter 108: Chapter 108
He grinned, his tousled hair ruffled by the breeze. "Good, because I want to spend as much time as possible with my darling Daniella."
I blushed at his words, feeling the warmth spread across my cheeks. I turned to look at him, "I’d like that. But we have to be careful. Grandfather would be furious if he finds out." I said with all seriousness.
Ethan’s eyes softened, and he cupped my face in his hands. "I know, love. I wonder when this secrecy will stop."
I wanted to promise him soon but I knew that was impossible. Ethan was a strong man, but he came from a poor family so all he does is menial work in the farm or my grandfather’s brewery. When I met him at the orphanage during my grandfather’s usual charity, I liked him almost instantly.
I even went to the same school, forfeiting the prestigious schools that heiresses like I were to go to. One could say I was lucky to enjoy the charm of being rich, most omegas that had weak wolves like I were forced to do more difficult tasks. But my grandfather loved me and has taken care of me since I lost my parents at age 7.
But he would never approve of me marrying a poor man, he had told me over his dead body. But I did not care.
Nothing in this world should ever keep me and Ethan apart.
Ethan pulled me closer, his arm around my shoulders. The sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm glow over us.
With that I came to a final decision, the one that I have been pondering over for days now.
"Ethan," I said, looking up at him, "let’s get married."
He stopped, a mixture of surprise and delight in his eyes. "Are you serious?"
I nodded, feeling the certainty in my heart. "Yes, Ethan Reynolds, let’s build a lifetime of happiness together. Let’s get married."
Ethan sat up, his expression thoughtful. "What about your grandfather, love? If he finds out, it could complicate things for you."
I leaned on my elbow, looking into his eyes. "Ethan, he’s old-fashioned. He’s going to die soon anyway. Why let him stop me from being with the love of my life?"
He grinned, a mixture of mischief and affection. "You always know how to convince me."
I kissed him, feeling the warmth of our shared passion. "So, let’s do it. Let’s get married now."
As luck would have it, we found ourselves beside a quaint church. "There’s a church, Ethan. I can pay for the certificate, and we can do it right here, right now."
He looked at me with a hint of sadness in his eyes, realizing I had to be the one to pay. But I didn’t care. Love was more important than pride or tradition.
"Ethan, don’t worry about it. I don’t care who pays. Let’s focus on us," I reassured him, determination in my voice.
He sighed, a mixture of gratitude and longing. "Daniella, you deserve the best, and I want to give it to you."
I smiled, running my fingers through his tousled hair. "You already have, by being the love of my life. Now, let’s make it official."
The quaint church stood amidst lush greenery, its weathered stones telling stories of countless ceremonies. The wooden doors creaked as we entered, and the air inside felt calm and sacred.
Inside, shafts of sunlight danced through stained glass, casting different colors on wooden pews.
The church was empty, which was expected. People hardly came to the church as it looked as if it was haunted. Not just that, anyone who goes to the church seems to have bad luck following them.
I do not believe in those kinds of stories anyways, love shines through everything.
As we approached the pastor, he eyed us with curiosity but still maintained a smile.
"How may I help you?" He asked.
Holding Ethan hand I grinned, "We want to get married"
The pastor was taken back by this request. He tried to maintain a neutral expression but that didn’t hold. "I’m sorry, my children, but marriage is a sacred bond, not to be entered into impulsively."
I exchanged a quick glance with Ethan, "Pastor, love is sacred too. We’re here because we believe in the strength of our commitment. Also we are at the right age."
The pastor frowned, "Do your parents know of this?"
"We are orphans," Ethan replied, I did not look at him but held his hand a bit close for this help.
The pastor sighed, relenting. "Very well, let love be your guide."
With the church as our witness, we exchanged vows. I, holding a simple handkerchief as my makeshift veil, looked into Ethan’s eyes, and with heartfelt words, we promised to stand by each other through thick and thin.
"From this day forward, in joy and sorrow, in sickness and health, I promise to love, cherish, and support you," Ethan vowed, his voice steady and sincere.
I echoed his sentiments, "I promise to be your partner in all things, to hold you when you’re broken, and to share the joy when you’re whole."
The words hung in the air, sealing our commitment. The pastor, albeit reluctantly, pronounced us husband and wife. Ethan leaned down, lifting my hand to place a gentle kiss on my knuckles. The simple gesture sent shivers down my spine.
With the man’s help, we signed a marriage certificate which we would take to the civil affairs office and then eventually be certified as husband and wife.
As we stepped out of the church into the warm embrace of the sun, its golden rays caressed our faces. We laughed, basking in the afterglow of our impromptu ceremony.
But the warmth turned to a chill as I bumped into my grandfather just outside the church. His stern expression made my heart skip a beat.
"Daniella," he said coldly, his eyes narrowing.
"Grandfather," I stammered, trying to hide the handkerchief still clutched in my hand.
His gaze shifted from me to Ethan, a disapproving frown etched on his face. "What is the meaning of this?"
I felt a lump forming in my throat. "Grandfather, please, I—"
My grandfather’s eyes softened for a moment, but the sternness returned. "You have disgraced the family, Daniella, if Aurora had not told me what you were planning...would you have hidden it from me?"
Aurora? Rora told grandfather? How could she? She had promised
Ethan, looking at us, stepped forward, "Mr Steele..."
