Chapter 117: A New Threat?

Chapter 117: A New Threat?

News of their engagement spread faster than they expected. It was supposed to be a secret, but there was someone who leaked a photo of them on the rooftop.

They couldn’t figure out who would have the audacity to post it online. The people that night were their friends and some staff from one of the restaurants owned by Emily.

"Do you think one of the staff took a photo and post it?" She asked Emily.

They were at Queens having tea together. The photo was posted two days after the proposal and before they knew it, it was already posted for four hours. A lot already grabbed the photo and shared the post.

"We’re still investigating. But the staff assigned that night has been working with me for six years. I trust them completely so it was hard for me to believe that they did it. They know the rules. They are not allowed to take pictures of our clients. Cellphones and cameras are not allowed if they’re on duty. They will be checked by our security before and after an event." Emily explained.

Nina sighed. Emily had a point. That night, no one noticed someone taking a photo of them. A.E. security team was present guarding the area. The royal guards of Flousia were also there because of Kyle and Emily. Who would have thought someone would have the courage to take a picture? She thought inwardly.

"Why are you so worried? Sooner or later, you have to announce it. Andrew is the CEO of Cross Airlines and everyone knows that he was divorced." Alora commented.

Nina was a bit offended, but she knew Alora was blunt and would say what was on her mind.

"I’m scared. I felt like it was happening again. When we were in Paris, someone took a photo of Andrew and me. It turned out it was the Santelmo’s." She said.

"Do you think it’s a new threat?" Peggy asked.

She was surprised to see Peggy’s face looked serious.

"I don’t know. But what if there is? I’m scared of what might happen."

"We’re not sure for now. Maybe it was just a post and the one who posted it needed attention." Sophie smiled.

They continued to have their tea time and changed the topic. She was looking at her to check the post and was hurt to see some of the comments.

Sophie noticed her sudden silence so she grabbed her phone to see what she was starting at.

"Don’t mind them. They don’t know anything." Sophie frowned.

Peggy and Emily got curious so they took the phone and looked at it.

"These bitches! Even if you didn’t come back, Andrew will not choose someone like those women." Peggy said with gritted teeth.

Emily held her hand. "Hey, you don’t need to worry about them. Just ignore it. Or you can prove to them that Andrew didn’t make a mistake in choosing you again. Besides, they don’t know anything about you."

"Yeah, what important are Andrew’s opinion, your family, and your friends." Sophie continued.

She smiled and felt relieved, but she was still thinking about the comments. What if someone found out about James? She wanted to leave everything behind. She wanted to forget everything that happened in the Santelmo mansion.

’He’s divorced, right? And if I’m not mistaken, that was his ex-wife.’

’They’re back together. But they said the wife left him. Why would he give her another chance?’

’The bitch got another ring! She left years ago and now she’s back because Cross Airlines is doing well. What a gold digger!’

’She’ll leave him again when the money’s gone. She’s the end of Cross Airlines!’

’No way! The ex-wife is back! Andrew Cross is stupid to marry her again.’

Those were some of the comments. She was already used to being called a gold digger. Even in high school, some of the students bullied her because she hangs out with the wealthiest kids on campus. She was just a nobody, an errand girl who would do anything for money.

She got lucky when she met Alora and the others. And when she became Andrew’s girl, a lot of them got jealous and called her names. He was an heir to one of the largest companies in the city while she served customers at her family’s restaurant.

Now, she was still a nobody. She didn’t even achieve anything yet. She had money because of Andrew. All of her things were bought and paid for by him. She was a smart girl, but she never had the chance to work and earn by herself because of everything that happened.

"I want to work." She said.

Andrew was in his office, reviewing some documents. She prepared some snacks and coffee for him.

"Work? Why?" He asked.

She bit her lip and took a deep breath before giving an answer.

"I want to earn and save money."

"I’m working and I’m already giving you money. Save it." He said.

"But Andrew, I want to earn for myself. I don’t want to depend on you forever. I never got the chance to work after graduation."

Andrew finally stopped what he was doing and looked at her. He had a frown on his face so she felt bothered by it. She knew he would not agree with what she asked.

"And where are you planning to work?" He asked.

"I don’t know yet, but I want to apply to a company that needs my skills." She said.

Andrew stared at her. "How about my company? Well, once we got married again, technically it’s also yours."

She shook her head. "No, as I said, I don’t want to depend on you."

"Is this about the comments on social media? If that’s your only reason, then forget it. You shouldn’t get affected by those people. If you need money, tell me. I can provide for our family. You don’t need to work just because of that post online." He said in a firm tone.
