Chapter 114: Plan
Chapter 114: Plan
"Who am I speaking to?" The woman asked again when Nina didn’t answer.
Nina bit her lips. She didn’t know what to do for a moment. Would she get mad? Would she introduce herself as Andrew’s wife? Was it okay to claim that title again? She thought to herself.
"If you’re not going to answer, I’m sorry but—"
"This is Katharina Cross, Andrew’s wife. Who’s this?" She answered.
Her voice didn’t tremble. She mustered the courage to tell the woman who she was even if it wasn’t true. Her heart pounded like a drum, waiting for the woman to reply to her.
"Katharina Cross? Oh! Mrs. Cross! I apologize for being rude. My name is Rachel, Mr. Cross’s secretary. He left his phone in his office. He’s in a meeting in the conference room. Is it urgent? I can give the phone to him." The woman said.
Nina was relieved that Rachel wasn’t a woman who Andrew slept with. She was happy that his secretary easily believed that she was his wife. But why? They were divorced for four years, and she was sure everyone knew about it.
"Mrs. Cross?" Rachel called.
"Sorry about that. It’s not urgent, but I have something important to say to my husband. Can you tell me the address of his new office? I want to surprise him."
Nina couldn’t wait any longer. They argued because of her selfishness again. She shouldn’t call another man if she wanted her and Andrew to get back together. She made another stupid mistake, so she should be the one to make the first move. She would not allow them to be apart again.
"The address is in A.E Corporation building complex. His office is on the 45th floor of the logistics department. Should I tell him you are coming?"
"Please don’t tell him. But I have a favor to ask."
After the call, Nina sent a message to the girls.
’Do you have time today? Can you help me please?’
’What is it?’ Sophie was the first to answer.
’Is Brie okay? What’s the problem?’ It was Alora.
’Can you come to the house today?’ She replied.
’Tell us what’s it about first.’ Peggy sent a message.
’I had an argument with Andrew. He didn’t come home and stayed overnight in his office. I want to go there and apologize.’ She answered.
’What can we do?’ Emily finally responded.
’I told his secretary that I’m his wife. I want to dress up properly so I could pretend like a real wife and not a fake. Please help me.’
’Nina, you don’t need to pretend. In our eyes, you’re still his wife. Nothing can change that. But if you really want to present yourself as Mrs. Cross, then we’ll be happy to help.’ Sophie said.
A few minutes passed, and then the girls arrived with luggage and paper bags. She frowned and was stunned to see the things they brought for her.
"Hey, I just bought some new clothes the other day, remember? I don’t think I need all of this." She said.
Alora glared at her. "Those clothes were for Andrew. He should be the one to see you wearing those dresses. But since you will go to his office, the first who will see you are his employees."
"Oh, I see! Sorry, I didn’t realize that."
"Okay, let’s start!" Emily exclaimed.
Nina’s heart was overwhelmed by her friends’ support. She betrayed them, and shouldn’t treat her nice after everything she had done. But looking at them, busy with choosing the clothes she had to wear, doing her make-up, and fixing her hair, she felt thankful and happy.
"Okay, we’re done with your make-up. What do you think?" Emily asked her and the girls.
Nina smiled seeing how it went. Emily used varying shades of peach and apricot as her eye shadow. She blended the shadow into a was of colors across her eyes and mixed copper and gold powder shadow on her cheeks with a soft peach blush. And as for Nina’s lips, Emily coated them with sheer layers of coral lipstick.
"Wow! It suits you, Nina! Simple but classy!" Sophie excitedly said.
"Now for the dress. Try this on." Peggy said while handing her a yellow halter top dress.
She went to her closet and put on the dress. She took a deep breath and then came out to show it to her friends.
They were smiling when they looked at her, and she knew they were satisfied with how she looked.
She walked toward the full-size mirror to see herself. Her heart beat so fast as she stared at the reflection of herself.
The dress was simple. A yellow halter top, showing off her full-back. Only a silver chain was hanging on her back as a simple design of the dress. The length was just above her knee, not too long and not too short. Her hair was tied up giving her a sophisticated and domineering look.
Alora gave her a beige stiletto with a pointed toe and mesh fabric on the side. She let out a deep breath while looking at the mirror. Then she turned around to face her friends.
"Thank you!" She smiled.
"Forget it. You don’t need to thank us. We’re family. We’ll always be here for you." Sophie whispered.
"So care to tell us what happened to you and Andrew?" Peggy asked.
She sighed before telling the girls about their argument about James.
"You’re stupid. You’re basically repeating what you had done to him four years ago. Are you in your right mind, Nina? James is not Brie’s real father. It’s not Andrew’s fault that his daughter was born and grew up without him. You know that!" Peggy yelled.
"I know. I made a huge mistake again. It was the first time Brie ran away from home. I didn’t know what to do. I know Andrew understood what I felt when Brie went missing, but he was hurt because he felt like I didn’t trust him in finding Brie. I want to apologize to him." Nina explained.
Alora gracefully sat on the couch, crossing her legs while staring at Nina.
"So what are you planning to do? You didn’t call us to dress you up just to apologize, right?"
Nina nodded. "I want to ask him to marry me again."
