Chapter 112: How To Be A Good Father?
"You didn’t tell me your daughter is a genius." Luke glanced at him.
"Do you think I knew about it? I had no idea either." He answered.
"Nina didn’t tell you?"
Andrew shook his head. "No. She told me that Brie was a smart kid, but I didn’t ask further. I’m an asshole."
"Yeah. You are. You didn’t see them for four years, you should have asked Nina about your daughter." Luke scolded him.
He sighed. He wanted to be the perfect father to Brie. Someone that she could be proud of. He was being selfish because he wanted her to forget about James. But how could he reach her heart? He didn’t know how to handle a child.
"When you had the twins, were you scared? You became a father when you were just in high school. How did you handle it?" Andrew asked.
"I was scared. Alora had mental issues, then my father suddenly gave me the company. It was hard. I thought I couldn’t handle it, but Alora said to just be myself, and put my heart into taking care of them. They don’t need a perfect man. They just need you to be there for them when things get hard. They need your love, and your affection and don’t forget to spend time with them so you can understand what they’re going through. All the wealth in the world is nothing compared to what your heart can give to your family." Luke said softly.
Andrew’s chest tightened. He told Nina and Brie that he would give them everything. And on his mind, all the things that money could buy. Nina told him that material things don’t matter to her and what was important was that to be there for Brie. He ignored what Nina said.
Now, he realized how stupid and ignorant he was. What Luke said was right, and he admired his friend for that. Luke was younger than him, but he think and act like he was the oldest. Everyone looked up to him.
"Thanks, Luke. I was so focused on giving them everything that money can buy. Even though Nina told me they don’t need it, I ignored her and decided on my own. I’m so stupid." He said.
"Well, no one can blame you. You didn’t know you had a kid. She suddenly showed up and was already a young lady so somehow we understand. You can be a dad. If Jayden can, you can do that, too."
Like Alora, Jayden had a dissociative identity disorder and switched to different personalities occasionally. But it didn’t become a burden to him to be a dad and a husband to Caden and Peggy.
"By the way, when are you planning to propose to Nina again? Did you have a plan to marry her for the second time?" Luke suddenly asked.
He turned to him and didn’t answer for a moment. He took a deep breath and then leaned his head on the passenger seat’s headrest.
"I do. But don’t you think it’s too early to propose? I mean what if she rejects me? She was married and divorced twice. What if she’s not ready to marry me again?" Andrew answered.
"Well, you wouldn’t know the answer if you don’t ask her."
"I think I’ll wait for a few weeks. I have to talk to Brie first and maybe she can give me some ideas about the proposal." He answered.
Luke didn’t ask further. Then they focused again on their kids who were currently checking on Benjamin’s account.
"So, did you find anything?" Lucas asked.
"I think I do." Brie answered, her eyes focused on the laptop in front of her.
"Really? What is it?" Lucas’s blue eyes glittered from excitement?
"Here. Look. This is his account from the bank of Flousia. He had a savings of fifty million dollars last month, but look at these fund transfers." Brie started.
Lucas frowned, staring at the laptop’s monitor. The little hacker was right. The fifty million was transferred to two accounts in just one month. There were no deposits for the past weeks and no withdrawals either.
"That’s suspicious. He didn’t withdraw them maybe because it was easier to track him so he made a bank transfer instead." Lucas murmured.
"Yes. Going to a bank is too risky. He would need to avoid the surveillance cameras, the other mafia clans, and the police." Brie answered.
"Can you track where the money was transferred?"
Brie nodded. "Yes. But I’m tired and sleepy. I need to rest."
Then she suddenly put her head on the table and closed her eyes. Lucas was surprised. Was she asleep? She just shut her eyes. He thought to himself.
"Hey, brat! Are you sleeping?"He tried to wake her up but she didn’t open her eyes.
"That was fast. Maybe she’s really exhausted." He said to himself.
He glanced at the girl who was now sleeping quietly. She’s cute, adorable, and a genius, but still he hates her because of her mother.
"How could dad ask me to be this girl’s fiance? I don’t like her." He whispered but enough to be heard by Luke and Andrew.
Andrew glared at Luke. "You asked your son to be my daughter’s fiance?"
"It’s not a bad idea, right? I like Brie for Lucas. We’ll be a family in the future." Luke answered.
"What the fuck are you talking about? My daughter is just four! How can she possibly understand engagement and stuff?" Andrew ranted?
"She’s a genius. A hacker. Do you think she would not know something about that?"
"Thank you for the offer, but I refuse. I want Brie to choose who she would marry. I don’t want her to be part of a tradition."
The Wilson had a long tradition of choosing their children’s partners in the future. Luke and Alora’s parents decided on their marriage. And although Caden and Alira liked each other, their parents decided on their engagement at the age of six.
Andrew wasn’t questioning the tradition of the Wilson Clan, but he knew Nina would want their daughter to decide on her own.
