Chapter 111: The Little Hacker
Luke stopped Andrew from coming inside McDonald’s. He already had a plan and ordered Lucas when called him earlier. Andrew might ruin it if he would suddenly show up in front of his daughter.
"Andrew, let’s leave them for a while. Brie needs someone she could trust."
"Are you telling me that I’m not that someone?" He frowned.
"No. Your daughter needs someone she could open up with. Right now, it’s not you or Nina. Brie is like Alira before she met Caden. You know that, right?" Luke said.
Andrew understood what Luke meant. Alira was aloof and distant but when she met Caden, she changed. Like Alira, Brie grew up without friends and was always surrounded by adults, so maybe a friend like Lucas could help.
He nodded and sighed.
"I prefer Alira to be her friend, but Lucas will do for now." He said before going back inside the car. Luke followed then turned the volume of the speaker so they could hear the conversation of Brie and Lucas.
Lucas didn’t know how to comfort a little girl other than his sister. Maybe it was the same. Lucas thought inwardly.
He patted her head and let her cry. Although he hated Brie, he grew up a gentleman and his mom asked him to be nice to her, so he didn’t really have a choice.
"Let’s order and eat. It will help you calm down." Lucas said.
Brie nodded in between sobs. Then followed Lucas to the counter.
"Hello, what’s your order, sir and young miss?" The cashier asked with a wide smile on her face.
"I’ll have a double cheeseburger and an orange juice. That’s all." Lucas said.
"Okay. Sure no problem."
The cashier tapped the monitor in front of her and then turned to Brie. She smiled at the girl with a pair of two hazelnut eyes.
"How about you, little miss?"
"I-I want what he ordered and spaghetti. And an apple pie, and a sundae. Oh! And I want nuggets and fries!"
Lucas looked at Brie in disbelief. "Are you sure you can eat all of that?"
Brie nodded, blushing. "Y-Yes!"
The cashier giggled while taking their orders. The other crew members were also amused by their little customers. They knew that the boy was the son and heir of the Wilson Empire, and was really happy to see him with a girl.
"No need to pay young sir. It has been settled." The cashier said.
Lucas knew it was his father, so he just nodded and took the food from the counter.
Brie looked around and chose the table in the center. She sat down with her feet barely touching the ground, she waited excitedly for Lucas.
He sat down across from her and put down the tray. Then he took the food one by one, putting them in front of Brie.
"Eat." He said.
Brie nodded. She looked at the food, curving her lips while choosing what to eat first.
"Try the cheeseburger first, then the fries." Lucas suggested.
Brie’s face lit up and then snatched the sandwich to open it. She took a small bite first, then took a larger one.
"Hey, slowly." Lucas frowned.
"Thwish ish deyicious." Brie said while chewing what was in her mouth.
"Don’t talk when your mouth is full. Here." Lucas handed Brie the orange juice.
She took it and drank a little. Lucas was just staring at the girl who was innocently eating. She really looked like Uncle Andrew’s ex-wife. He thought inwardly.
He sighed. The one he really hated was this girl’s mother. She was one of the women he admired when he was just Brie’s age. But it changed when she betrayed his parents and his family. He couldn’t understand why his parents and their friends, especially Jayden and Peggy, were able to forgive a woman like that. She was the reason his Aunt Peggy lost her daughter, and the reason Caden had to stay in Flousia. She was the one who made his twin sister suffer.
He turned to Brie again and was surprised to see her face so red because of the spaghetti sauce. He wanted to laugh but tried his best not to. He took a table napkin and handed it to Brie.
"Wipe your face. You’re such a baby." He said.
"Am not." Brie pouted.
"You’re not? Really? You ran away from home, you cry so loud, you’re a messy eater, and–and what else? Well, you’re a baby."
"Am not a baby!" Brie yelled.
"If you’re not then why don’t you help us instead of hiding from your parents? You said you know where Benjamin is." Lucas ranted.
"I didn’t say I know where he is. I-I don’t know." She whispered, bowing her head.
"What? You said you knew!"
"I-I don’t know where he is right now, but I can track him."
"Track him? How?" Lucas frowned.
"I-I am a hacker." Brie stuttered.
Lucas laughed. His father was a tech genius but he couldn’t track the whereabouts of Benjamin. How could a little girl help them? He thought.
"I-I’m not lying. I know everything about his properties, his businesses, the people he does business with, and even his bank accounts." Brie continued.
"Really? Can you show it to us?"
"Y-Yes!"
"Then show me what you got first. You have your laptop with you, right?"
Lucas nodded while looking at Brie’s bag. He knew she had something inside it, and it wasn’t her clothes. She ran away and the first thing she brought with her was her laptop. She’s really a baby. Lucas thought inwardly.
Brie opened her bag and took out her laptop. Lucas wanted to see how she would track Benjamin, so he moved beside Brie and sat down.
"Look. This is a file I took from that man. I thought it would be useful someday so I kept it." Brie said while showing Lucas a small USB device.
"What’s inside it?" Lucas asked.
"Everything. I can start with what’s in this to track him. I could easily check if there are any movements from that man’s wealth."
Lucas was somehow impressed. Brie looked so mature, and her voice didn’t sound like a child’s.
She opened the file and focused on checking Benjamin’s bank accounts.
"Why are you checking his account?" He asked.
"If you are a fugitive, what’s the first thing you need to survive?" Brie asked.
"Money." Lucas answered.
