Chapter 354: Chapter 344: Exorcist Couple
Hills Village, being near the lakeside area, was enveloped by a moist fog that drifted across from the surface of the lake.
Twin dim headlights pierced through the mist, guiding an antique strange beetle sedan through the tranquil and tidy main road of this wealthy village. Then, quite suddenly, it veered into a seemingly neglected path, departing from the primary area, where the fog seemed even thicker.
The sedan drove on for quite some time. As time passed, it should have been approaching seven or eight in the morning, yet the area illuminated by the headlights showed no signs of expanding.
“How much longer? Isn’t this place exclusively for the rich? The main road and its surroundings look nice, but all this is so strange.”
In the back seat of the car, a girl dressed in overalls, styled like a tomboy, curiously observed the scenery outside the window.
She was talking to a middle-aged couple sitting in the front.
The man had a darker complexion, curly hair, and corners of his lips naturally seemed to curl up as if he was always smiling. The woman wore a black turtleneck sweater and loose women’s slacks. Although crow’s feet at the corners of her eyes could not be hidden, her features indicated that she must have been a great beauty in her younger days.
Hearing her daughter’s question, the woman smiled, raised her hand to point ahead where the fog was even thicker, and an opulent yet ancient house came into view.
“Are we there? Is it time to start the exorcism? Do ghosts and spirits really exist in this world?”
The girl became excited, her short hair shaking, and the slight fear in her eyes was completely dispelled by curiosity.
Her movement was so vigorous that even the car shook a bit. The middle-aged man turned around to say something, and then he heard his wife’s exclamation beside him.
“Careful, someone’s there!”
“Tsssh~lah!”
Fortunately, it wasn’t raining, and his instinctive braking allowed the “strange beetle” to come to a halt.
Then, the slightly panicked family in the car saw in unison that the person they almost hit was a high school student-looking young man, quite handsome, carrying a suitcase that looked like an antique and a luxury item. He was regarding them with curious eyes.
Tang Qi was indeed curious. He had assumed that the “Ghost House” known to house at least a dozen evil spirits should have been an abandoned villa.
But he found that the Ghost House had owners, and they were a family of living people.
In the early morning, they were neither busy nor asleep. Instead, they were nervously gathered together with lights on, seemingly waiting for some visitors.
This middle-aged couple and their daughter were likely the guests that the Ghost House owners were waiting for.
Tang Qi’s gaze swept over them, and immediately, a ghostly light emerged in his eyes.
The couple’s ghost light was faint, not intense.
But their daughter was a bit different.
[Extraordinary Creatures: Exorcist.]
[State: Normal.]
[Information Fragment One: A couple with shared aspirations, they dreamt of becoming exorcists from a young age and made many efforts towards that goal, such as madly studying mostly nonsensical mystical knowledge. After the return of the Spiritual Tide, their dream came true, with a small part of their lifetime knowledge being real mysticism, which granted them some demon exorcism ability.]
[Information Fragment Two: They have been recently striving to gain recognition from the Church to become registered exorcists. The Church’s condition is a minimum of ten successful exorcisms, and this is their sixth attempt.]

[Extraordinary Creatures: Exorcist.]
[State: Transforming.]
[Information Fragment One: Her birth was special. The Coleman couple first encountered a Mysterious Event and accidentally got caught between two Extraordinary Creatures smuggling themselves from another world. The couple, who should have died, unexpectedly survived, and the fetus in Erin’s womb got an unintended benefit.]
[Information Fragment Two: Lily has two different powers within her body, belonging to different camps, granting her the Extraordinary Power of purification and chaos. But due to the mutual consumption of the two powers, she is in a delicate balance.]
[Information Fragment Three: Due to her unique constitution, she was born an exorcist, but her abilities require development.]
…
“Exorcist couple with a transcendent daughter? Things are getting interesting.”
Tang Qi withdrew his gaze, nodded to the family, cleared the way, and headed directly down a fork in the road.
In the eyes of Coleman couple and their daughter Lily, that strange high school student gave them a polite smile before vanishing into the fog.
“Even stranger!”
Lily seemed somewhat reluctant to part with the attractive high school student, muttering half-heartedly.
The Coleman couple smiled at each other from the front, and Edel consoled his daughter, “Don’t be too nervous, that was clearly not a ghost. Perhaps he’s just a child from a rich family nearby. If you want to ask someone for their phone number, maybe your old dad can help.”
The playful tease from behind received an eye-roll from Lily in response.
The strange beetle continued towards the lakeside villa still bright with lights, apparently to soften Lily’s mood. Erin’s voice resounded,
” “”}
“The job we’ve taken on this time comes from the Roger family. Mr. Roger is a decent psychologist who, completely disbelieving in ghosts, has purchased the famous ghost house in Hills Village for a very cheap price.”
“Its name is… Oak Villa by the lake. This is a century-old house that has been involved in at least dozens of mysterious events, which is why the village of Hills Village was deliberately built to avoid this most scenic area.”
“According to Mr. Roger’s account, after his family moved in, they experienced a series of incidents including the death of pets, strange noises in the middle of the night, children being dragged, and waking up to find bruise-like palm prints on everyone… Edel and I believe that there is more than one evil spirit lurking within.”
“Lily, do you really want to come along? If you regret it now, we can take you back first.”
“Please, Mom, you’ve asked too many times. I won’t regret it.”
Lily hid the fear in her eyes and forced a façade of bravery.
But the thought that surfaced in the back of her mind was this: “This time I must figure it out. If ghosts really exist in this world, then my parents aren’t liars. I will learn their knowledge first, and then take those foolish girls on an adventure to the haunted house. After they’re scared half to death, I, Lady Lily, will come out as their savior. That scene will be quite a sight.”
In Lily’s fantasy, the strange beetle drove up to the front of Oak Villa.
The three of them got out of the car, and the Roger family, who had already heard the car’s engine, opened the front door ahead of them.
This family of seven consisted of the Roger couple, four daughters, and a five-year-old son.
Including the head of the family, Roger Albert, everyone looked haggard, with undeniable terror in their eyes.
After briefly exchanging greetings, Roger pleaded with a voice as hoarse as if he hadn’t drunk water in ages, seeking help from Erin and Edel: “Start quickly, if even you can’t solve those damn ghosts, I’ll have no choice but to take the children to my aging father.”
“It’s all my fault, I was fired from the clinic, there’s not much savings left, but we can still manage to rent a house in Ham District. We shouldn’t have been greedy for a cheap price and chosen this damned place.”
Toward the end, this once suave psychologist, now with a haggard face and bloodshot eyes, was on the verge of collapse.
But still, as a father and a husband, he held back.
His wife, four daughters, and son all looked at the Coleman couple and Lily standing behind them with eyes filled with hope.
Edel and Erin exchanged a glance, both feeling a strong surge of sympathy.
“Let’s, begin!”
Edel said very solemnly.
It was also at this moment that Lily, standing behind them, had a strange expression and look in her eyes, as fear and madness began to breed.
Upon stepping inside the villa, she could feel dozens of terrible, malicious gazes.
The source of one of those gazes that made her almost want to turn around and run was at the end of the hallway ahead, where a locked plank on the floor clearly led to some dark basement.
…
About a hundred meters behind Oak Villa, Tang Qi, carrying a suitcase, was walking through an oak forest in the misty haze.
Soon, he stopped before a massive oak tree. Compared to the other oaks in the forest, this one stood out in height and had several branches growing in strange ways. Finger-thick vines twisted around them, forming loops that dangled down.
For some reason, standing in front of it made one feel an urge to walk beneath its shade.
Tang Qi smiled and followed his impulse, walking beneath the tree.
At the same time, looking into the distance, it must be said that from here, looking towards Green Dragon Ridge Lake, one indeed could see a very beautiful and stunning scenery.
Until the next moment, silently, a loop of vine fell around Tang Qi’s neck.
If nothing out of the ordinary occurred, Tang Qi would be hanged by the loop and subsequently asphyxiate to death.
But in reality, before the loop could tighten, a “whoosh” sound was heard, and red flames ignited, instantaneously burning the loop to ashes and spreading towards the entire tree.
“Squeak~ Squeak Squeak”
Sharp and strange cries like those of a rat emanated from within the oak tree.
A ghostly light began to flourish in Tang Qi’s eyes.
[Extraordinary Creatures: Suicide Oak.]
[State: Dying.]
[Information Fragment One: An oak tree contaminated by a powerful resentful soul, it kills all living things standing beneath it. If the victim is an animal, its body will be devoured by the oak. If it is a human, it will be staged to look like a suicide.]
[Information Fragment Two: Its roots have formed a special residence for the powerful resentful soul, the location of the roots…]
“Whoosh”
Almost immediately, Tang Qi no longer paid any attention to the wailing Suicide Oak and turned to look a hundred meters away at the villa, which had become shrouded in a fog so thick it was almost pitch-black.
It was at this moment that a scream full of fear emanated from Oak Villa.
