Chapter 263: You Like Your Boss ( 1 )
After breakfast, Feng Zhexuan left the apartment but didn’t head to Feng Group. Instead, he went to Yan Corporation.
Sitting inside his car, he took out his phone and sent a message to his most capable assistant with ease.
[ Assistant Wei, reschedule my morning meetings. I’m on my way to Yan Corporation. I will inform you when I’m done handling my wife’s company matters. ]
When Wei Zheming received the message in the hospital ward, he clenched his teeth in anger. Working overtime for a month due to his boss’s whims was taking a toll on his old body.
After he read the message, he muttered, "He is doing this on purpose!"
This time, his reply wasn’t the usual confirmation but a refusal with a thick tone of complaint.
[ I have been working overtime for a month thanks to you. I won’t reschedule your meetings! ]
Moments later, another message arrived with a loud notification tone.
[ 50,000 yuan per hour for your overtime. Calculate the time and report to me. ]
A sly smile appeared on Wei Zheming’s face as soon as he read this message. Since he was saving up for his wedding, he could use the extra income. So, his previous anger lessened and he replied haughtily.
[ As your most capable assistant, I’m worth more than 50,000 yuan per hour. ]
Not long after, another message came from his boss.
[ 100,000 yuan. ]
Unfazed with the number, he pushed further with a grin.
[ 150,000 yuan, or I’m taking a long vacation. ]
Reading this, Feng Zhexuan muttered in disbelief, "Does he think I can’t do anything without him?"
Although he was complaining, he indeed needed his friend’s assistance. So, he reluctantly replied while nagging.
[Deal!]
At the hospital, Wei Zheming chuckled as he read the message. With the pay secured, he began rearranging his boss’s schedules.
While he was busy making phone calls and checking the other party’s schedules, Xiao Wu finally opened her eyes in a daze.
She stared at the ceiling for a moment before regaining her senses and recalling what had happened. Hearing a familiar voice in the room, she turned her head and saw Wei Zheming busily taking notes in his notebook.
Feeling sore from lying down for so long, she wanted to sit up. However, the moment she moved her head, dizziness and nausea overwhelmed her. Realizing she might have a concussion, she stopped trying to move and lay back with her eyes closed.
After a few minutes, the dizziness subsided, and the urge to vomit faded. However, her throat burned with thirst, and she instinctively licked her chapped lips.
Noticing a glass of water on the bedside table, she reached for it. Unfortunately, instead of grabbing the glass, her hand bumped into a plastic bag, knocking something to the floor with a loud clatter.
Startled by the noise, Wei Zheming turned around and saw Xiao Wu looking at him helplessly.
"Please wait a moment," he said, putting the call on hold.
Setting his phone and notebook aside, he walked over to the bed. Placing a straw in the glass of water, he held it to her lips.
Seeing this, Xiao Wu didn’t insist on holding the glass herself and simply sipped the water.
"Just drink a little for now, you shouldn’t drink too much at once. Have more later," Wei Zheming gently reminded her.
After taking another sip, Xiao Wu finally said, "Thank you, Senior Brother."
Wei Zheming placed the glass back on the bedside table, bent down to pick up the phone that had fallen, and tucked it into a drawer.
"I called your mom yesterday to let her know about your condition," he said.
Xiao Wu remained silent for a moment before letting out a soft hum.
"She is out of town and said she will visit you when she gets back," he continued.
This time, Xiao Wu smiled faintly and asked, "Senior Brother, do you really believe her? She has been saying the same thing for over twelve years but never kept her promise. She didn’t even remember my birthday."
Her smile turned tired as she added, "I have stopped hating her for abandoning me, and I don’t resent her husband and children for taking my mother’s love away. I’m an adult now, I can take care of myself. I don’t need her visits or her love anymore."
Wei Zheming sighed at her words and reached out to gently pat her head and said softly, "It’s okay."
"My parents are your parents, too. I will take care of you, so you don’t have to force yourself to be strong. It’s okay to complain or act spoiled in front of me."
Feeling his warm hand on her head, Xiao Wu’s eyes stung with unshed tears. She bit her lip, unwilling to cry in front of him. It was natural to feel weak and lonely when sick, but she didn’t want to rely on others. She wanted to be strong enough to stand beside him as an equal.
Noticing her reddened eyes, Wei Zheming asked, "Are you hungry? I bought porridge for you."
At the mention of food, Xiao Wu’s stomach growled audibly, making her nod. She tugged at his sleeve lightly and muttered, "I want century egg porridge."
She didn’t realize that her tone was full of complaints and grievances. Wei Zheming smiled when he saw her behaving like a soft girlfriend in front of him and said, "I knew you would want that and already bought it. Wait a moment, I will heat it up for you."
"Thank you, Senior Brother," she said softly.
"Is there any need for thanks between us?" he replied meaningfully.
Xiao Wu, with her high IQ but low EQ, missed the undertone of his words and grinned happily.
Wei Zheming grabbed the plastic bag and went to warm the food while resuming his phone call. Fortunately, his reputation and position in the business world allowed him to get away with putting someone on hold for so long.
After rearranging Feng Zhexuan’s schedule, he returned to feed the porridge to Xiao Wu, as she still couldn’t move her head much.
