Chapter 261: Concussion
Standing beside the car, Wei Zheming frowned at the swelling on Xiao Wu’s forehead.
"Get in," he ordered while opening the passenger door.
Xiao Wu, knowing her senior brother’s temper, didn’t argue. Although she felt he was overreacting since it was just a minor injury, she obediently climbed into the passenger seat since she could feel the anger radiating from her senior brother.
Noticing she hadn’t fastened her seatbelt, Wei Zheming leaned over to buckle it for her. His face hovered mere inches from hers and his breath brushed her cheeks lightly.
Startled by his proximity, Xiao Wu’s heart raced. She could smell the faint minty fragrance coming from his body and instinctively closed her eyes, holding her breath, thinking he might kiss her.
Wei Zheming noticed her reaction as he fastened the seatbelt. His lips curled into a faint smile and amusement could be seen clearly in his eyes.
’So, she still has feelings towards me. She is not indifferent after all. But now isn’t the right time,’ he thought regretfully.
After lingering for a moment, he called her name softly, "Xiao Wu."
Hearing him calling her, Xiao Wu felt a touch on her lips. The touch was so light that she thought she was imagining it. Her eyes fluttered open, meeting his gaze.
His expression was playful as he asked, "What were you thinking about? Your face is completely red."
"I-I wasn’t thinking about anything!" Xiao Wu stammered, avoiding his eyes.
Wei Zheming leaned back slightly, narrowing his gaze and asked, "Were you waiting for me to kiss you?"
Xiao Wu’s face turned an even deeper shade of red at his words. She pushed him away, flustered by their closeness and refute, "I wasn’t! Senior Brother, didn’t you say you would take me to the hospital? Why aren’t we moving yet?"
Her reaction only made him smile. He touched her cheeks lightly and said, "Close your eyes and rest. Your pupils were unfocused just now. You might have a mild concussion."
Realizing he had been checking her for signs of a concussion, Xiao Wu felt embarrassed. She felt a slight disappointment in her heart and muttered softly, "Fine,"
She leaned back in her seat and closed her eyes. As dizziness washed over her again, she thought, ’Maybe I really do have a concussion.’
After driving for almost an hour, Wei Zheming finally parked the car in the hospital’s parking lot and glanced at the girl beside him. Seeing her frown, he gently touched her cheek and called, "Xiao Wu, wake up, we are here."
Feeling the light touch, Xiao Wu frowned slightly before opening her eyes in a daze. It was rare for her to fall asleep so easily. Usually, she couldn’t sleep unless she was at home or in a safe place.
She looked at her senior brother and said hoarsely, "Senior brother, I feel so dizzy."
Hearing this, Wei Zheming unbuckled her seat belt and said, "Just close your eyes and rest."
"Mn," she murmured softly before closing her eyes again.
Noticing her face turning paler, he quickly got out of the car, walked around, and carried her to the emergency room. As soon as he entered, he said urgently, "Doctor, please check on her!"
The nurses and doctor rushed over as soon as they saw him carrying her. After a quick examination, the doctor said, "She might have a concussion. Let’s arrange some tests to confirm."
"Yes, Doctor," a nurse replied.
Hearing this, Wei Zheming added, "Doctor, it’s been a few hours since she was injured. Is it serious?"
The doctor glanced at him and said, "We will know more after the tests. For now, we will monitor her condition closely."
Having no medical expertise, Wei Zheming could only nod and stay by Xiao Wu’s side. Shortly after, a nurse approached him and asked, "Excuse me, are you the patient’s boyfriend?"
Wei Zheming stood up immediately and replied, "Do you need anything from me?"
"Please register your girlfriend at the counter so we can proceed with her tests," the nurse said with a polite smile.
"Alright," he nodded and went to the lobby.
After completing the registration, the nurses took Xiao Wu for several tests while Wei Zheming waited in the lobby. Nearly two hours later, the doctor walked over.
"Doctor, how is she?" Wei Zheming asked anxiously.
"The patient has a mild concussion and needs to stay overnight for observation. She will need plenty of rest, but she is otherwise fine. We will move her to a general ward," the doctor explained.
Wei Zheming let out a breath he didn’t realize he’d been holding and said with a relief, "Thank you, Doctor."
The doctor nodded and left to attend to other patients. About thirty minutes later, Xiao Wu was transferred to a first-class ward. During the process, she briefly woke up but quickly fell asleep again.
Settling on the sofa in her room, Wei Zheming looked at her thoughtfully. After a moment of hesitation, he picked up his phone and made a call.
As soon as the call connected, an energetic voice was heard, "Xiao Wei! It’s rare for you to call me. Did Chenghe make trouble for you again?"
"Aunty, Xiao Wu didn’t cause any trouble. I just wanted to let you know she was injured during duty and has a mild concussion. She is in the hospital now," Wei Zheming explained calmly.
"What?! How did she get hurt so suddenly? Is she okay?" the woman exclaimed in shock.
"Aunty, please don’t worry. She just needs to stay overnight for observation. She will be fine," he reassured her.
"That’s a relief," the woman sighed.
"Xiao Wei, Aunty’s not in town right now. Can you help me take care of Chenghe?" she asked with a hint of guilt and embarrassment.
"Aunty, you don’t have to worry. I just wanted to inform you. I will stay with her," Wei Zheming replied without hesitation.
"Thank you, Xiao Wei. When I’m back, let’s have a meal together, alright?"
