Chapter 101: Chapter 36: Little Expert in Magic Potions
When leaving the Magic Tower, it was only the afternoon.Yun Sheng encountered Gu Feng on the road. She concealed the matter of the First Level Prohibition and roughly explained the situation inside the Magic Tower.
"Are you interested... in visiting Master Mei Li’s... magic experiment laboratory... to watch me brew Magic Medicine?" Gu Feng, happy on Yun Sheng’s behalf, sneakily glanced at her, and invited her with embarrassment.
Gu Feng was also a public student, but his daily responsibility was only to assist Master Mei in brewing Magic Potions.
Yun Sheng hadn’t yet started her Magic Potion Class, and because of her study of Ancient Medical Skill, she also had a certain interest in Magic Potions.
Yun Sheng thought it over. The work in the Public Herb Field was almost done, and she had nothing else to do that afternoon, so it would be good to go with Gu Feng and see how Magic Potions are brewed.
Instructors in the Magic Potion Department each have their own Magic Potion Laboratory, and Gu Feng was Master Mei Li’s assistant.
With Master Mei Li absent, the laboratory was about the size of half a Public Student Dormitory, and it was filled with various materials for brewing Magic Potions.
Upon inspection, Yun Sheng found that the process of brewing Magic Potions was not too different from the pharmaceutical methods in Ancient Medical Skill, but brewing Magic Potions required the use of Magic Elements, which sounded more like medieval alchemy.
The variety of Magic Materials was also diverse and peculiar, ranging from all sorts of Magic Ores, Demon Beast Soul Stones, to Beast Skin, Beast Bone, and various Magic Herbs. It was hard to imagine that all these materials could be used to brew various types of Magic Potions.
"I know how to brew... Initial Level Agility Potion... and Detoxification Potion," Gu Feng said with a silly smile, as Magic Potion brewing was the only skill he was proud of.
Gu Feng also relied on selling basic Magic Medicines like Agility Water and Detoxification Potions to earn his everyday living expenses. Generally speaking, as a Magician, relying on one’s Magic Power, one could brew at most two Magic Potions a day.
The task Master Mei Li set for Gu Feng was to brew one bottle of Agility Water and one bottle of Detoxification Potion each day.
Master Mei Li was indeed taking pains to teach; brewing Magic Potions can enhance a person’s perception and control of Magic Elements, which is especially important for trainees in the Magic Potion Department.
"Can I give it a try?" Yun Sheng was also very interested in the art of potion brewing.
Yun Sheng chose to brew an Agility Potion.
After examining the production and extraction method of the Agility Potion, and having studied Pharmacology at Medical University, Yun Sheng had already rapidly calculated the proportions of different materials in her mind upon seeing the recipe, as well as the Magic Elements that might need to be consumed during the brewing process.
Then, Yun Sheng found a few materials in some of Master Mei Li’s discarded materials, started to extract the remaining elements from these materials, added Water Element appropriately, controlled the size of the Fire Element, used the Wind Element to adjust the fusion of the Magic Potion, and employed the Earth Element as the final stabilizer.
During the brewing process, a flash of golden light flickered in Yun Sheng’s pupils from time to time, and her fingertips were seamlessly merging and changing between different colored Magic Elements.
Gu Feng was rendered dumbfounded by the sight, feeling as though his eyeballs were about to fall out while watching Yun Sheng brew the Magic Medicine.
"It’s done," in just 15 minutes, Yun Sheng had procured a bottle of orange potion.
"My God... It’s actually orange... indeed orange... Orange Agility Potion, that’s... that’s Mid-grade Agility Water," Gu Feng was stunned. It was truly mystical, considering it was Yun Sheng’s first time brewing a Magic Potion.
Even agility potions are ranked differently, with significant price disparities in the market.
The color of magic potions determines their efficacy; blue magic potions are low-grade, orange ones are mid-grade, and red ones are high-grade.
The potion in Yun Sheng’s hands is purely orange like the warm sun in winter, with no impurities. With half a month’s training under Master Mei Li, Gu Feng could tell at a glance that it must be a mid-grade agility potion.
A low-grade agility potion can maintain agility for five minutes, a mid-grade potion for ten minutes, and a high-grade potion for a full fifteen minutes.
If these were to hit the market, countless people would be scrambling to buy them.
"It really is a mid-grade agility potion... Amazing... Yun Sheng, you are a genius," Gu Feng eyed it carefully, swallowing hard. It seemed like Master Mei Li once said that the chance for an ordinary magician to produce a mid-grade magic medicine is about one in a thousand.
"Hehe, it’s just luck. I didn’t expect to be able to concoct a mid-grade potion," Yun Sheng attributed the success of producing the mid-grade potion to the combination of Shennong’s Eyes and Yan Ling’s Hand, complemented by her Five Elements Magic Soul, which is extremely sensitive to Magic Elements. Her mastery in controlling the fire is first-rate. All these factors combined allowed her to successfully create a mid-grade potion on the first attempt.
"If Master Mei Li sees this later... she will be overjoyed," Gu Feng held the agility potion lovingly, carefully handling it as if he were afraid to spill even a drop.
"No, this agility potion is not for Master Mei Li. We are going to sell it," Yun Sheng blinked her eyes.
"This... How can we... This is a potion from the laboratory," Gu Feng was an honest man and had never done such a thing as taking out potions during his two months under Master Mei Li.
"We only used discarded materials here, originally these were scraps meant to be thrown away. If you feel bad about it, we can buy new materials to replace them," Yun Sheng reassured Gu Feng.
"Still... it’s not really good," Gu Feng looked pitifully at the mid-grade magic potion.
"Think about it, with it, how many silver coins, or even Magic Cards, could we exchange for?! Don’t you want to experience the Magic Card?" Yun Sheng felt as if she was the Big Bad Wolf with a poison apple, tempting Little Red Riding Hood.
She was without other options. If they went by the book, she and Gu Feng, the public students, wouldn’t be able to save up for a Magic Card in a year.
If they could use the discarded Magic Materials to concoct high-quality or even mid-grade magic potions, it would be like turning stone into gold.
In her eyes, Gu Feng’s talent wasn’t as poor as one might think; he simply lacked the resources to cultivate it.
She was planning to give Gu Feng some Moonlight Grass for a while to start improving his Magic Physique.
Once Gu Feng heard about the Magic Card, he couldn’t resist anymore.
Today, having heard Yun Sheng’s suggestion, he too wanted to try entering the Magic Tower.
"Well... okay... I’ve heard that there’s a night market in the academy... Usually, everyone takes their extra belongings to sell in the market... Even some instructors go there... We could probably exchange the Agility Water for a Magic Card there," Gu Feng, who had been at the academy two months longer than Yun Sheng, was more knowledgeable about its workings.
However, he repeatedly insisted that if Yun Sheng sold the mid-grade agility potion and had money left over, she must buy some Magic Materials in return.
Yun Sheng agreed to his request, and the two made plans to try their luck at the night market that very night.
