Chapter 89: Chapter 89: The Death of Najia (Please Favorite, Follow, and Vote for the Monthly Ticket)
"What are you doing?"
Najia charged down without hesitation.
He didn’t believe that He Ao was so weak he couldn’t stand atop the cage; there had to be another plan.
He Ao didn’t answer him. His body landed on the neck of the massive red-and-black lizard, and then his sword pierced directly into it.
The exotic beast’s tough skin was easily penetrated as He Ao twisted the blade, creating a long gash.
Super Memory’s analysis hadn’t been wrong; this was indeed where the beast’s artery lay.
A massive column of blood, like a fountain, spurted out, but this blood wasn’t the usual fresh red; instead, it shimmered with a mix of red and black.
With the blood column gushing out, the exotic beast, originally sedated, began to convulse violently, and the cage suspended in the air started to tremble.
The violent convulsions nearly threw He Ao off. He grabbed the sword that was plunged into the beast’s body, gripping the hilt tightly, then turned his head to face the surging blood.
"Stop!"
Najia rushed over angrily, not only because the beast was bred for the Mayor, affecting his status, but also due to the bad premonition rising in his heart.
The blood of the exotic beast carried a strong stench and was filled with twisted pollution. The moment the blood entered his mouth, He Ao felt two utterly different powers surge into his body, colliding and polluting his flesh and spirit, trying to twist his will.
Besides these two distinct powers, there was another force coiling in his throat.
Heavenly Qi flows through the lungs, Earth Qi through the throat.
Yin and Yang merge to bring forth the Five Elements.
As these energies breathed in also found a place to go,
the two energies within He Ao mixed, exploded, and transformed into five streams of different Qi that soaked into his organs.
His once-stalled basic physical quality began to jump again, 80...81...82...83...84...85.
By now, Najia had reached him. He Ao grabbed the wound he had created in the beast with his sword while greedily sucking its blood, while simultaneously drew his sword and triggered Super Memory, blocking Najia’s attack.
The slumbering exotic beast had begun to awake. It snapped the thin mechanical arms injecting sedatives into its body and began to shake its body violently, trying to throw off the two ’little mice’ on its back.
He Ao remained unmoved. Najia didn’t have the same finesse in controlling his body, and his attacks weakened momentarily, which inadvertently helped He Ao.
Yet even so, as the situation grew dire and the beast awakened, Najia, knowing things were irredeemable, began to disregard the beast and his laser cannons fired without hesitation.
Pinned in place, He Ao found it difficult to dodge, and his body was grazed several times.
Even though his physical quality was strong, several patches of his flesh were charred, affecting his movements.
His already injured right calf had almost entirely lost its mobility, barely able to move by relying on the thigh, offering a bit of support to his body.
And at this moment, after the eruption of Super Memory, his physical quality had reached 157, with a basic physical quality of 100 and an additional 57 from Super Memory.
was the limit of E-level, but also the limit that He Ao’s body could withstand; his organs couldn’t accept new energy.
The two transcendent forces were still fighting within him, but since his organs and body had been reinforced with energy, these forces didn’t cause too much damage.
He had managed to fortify his organs so smoothly and quickly partly because these two forces filled his body, pressing ’Heavenly Qi’ and ’Earth Qi’ to merge.
However, He Ao wasn’t separating them yet; he was still voraciously drinking the beast’s blood, with ample ’Heavenly Qi’ and ’Earth Qi’ converging inside him.
A page from the small book appeared in his mind, the fifth page.
The energies from the throat and chest were led to converge at the center of the collarbone, then traveled upwards through the throat, behind the ears, above the ears, then back to the throat, afterward moving downward, passing through the left arm, left side of the body, left leg, back to the groin, then along the right leg, right side of the body, right arm, and returning to the chest cavity.
This power converged in the chest cavity where He Ao pressed them to merge into five distinct forms, each passing through an organ, finally converging below the navel and above the kidneys, in the abdomen.
Because his body could no longer accept new energy, these energies remained unharmed but took on a hint of each part’s aura.
What followed was the most critical moment.
Najia’s attacks grew even more ferocious, as if he saw hope in killing He Ao.
As the pollution from the beast’s blood eroded him, his mental state began to lose stability.
He Ao calmed his mind, blocking Najia’s attacks while using the two forces in his body to compress the scattered energies.
As these five streams of energy came together, a sudden pulsation emerged in He Ao’s heart. He looked up at the sky above, and in that instant, the five energies merged into two, and then from two to one.
Bang—
He Ao felt as if the chains that had been constantly restricting his body suddenly snapped.
A fleeting and ethereal breath converged in his abdomen.
This was "Qi."
Guided by this strand of "Qi," the two conflicting forces that had been battling within him became momentarily subdued.
He Ao had not expected to succeed so easily; he was merely trying it out. He lowered his head to look at Najia in front of him.
Najia was taken aback; he gazed into He Ao’s eyes and saw the reflection of the entire earth within them.
He Ao lifted the sword in his hand, and under the guidance of the "Qi," the two clashing forces merged and infused into his body.
In that instant, both his cognitive abilities and physical fitness were enhanced. Bulging muscles rose on his body. These forces were only temporarily subdued, and he had to seize the moment.
He Ao focused on Najia. When he had consumed the Vermilion Fruit, he had briefly possessed "Qi," which allowed him to clearly see the energy flow circuits within the "Bull’s" body.
And now, he realized that he could see the energy circuitry of the Mechanically Modified People as well, not just the Transcendents.
A flash of silver sword light passed in an instant, thrusting into Najia’s chest, shattering his grey armor. As steel fell away, a Power Sphere emitting blue light appeared in He Ao’s field of view.
This was Najia’s energy core.
At the same time, a small silver box sprang out from the cracks of the armor, and He Ao caught the box effortlessly.
The strength of Najia’s armor exceeded He Ao’s expectations, so he didn’t manage to burst Najia’s energy core with one strike.
Najia was stunned by this sudden attack, then he exploded with a powerful burst of laser cannon, and in the midst of He Ao’s evasion, he shot upward violently.
At this moment, the Cage was nearing the dome; he opened the top of the Cage and then leaped onto the dome, with He Ao following closely behind.
The two returned to a wrecked conference room once more.
Najia swept his gaze around; the elevator was now out of the question. He charged toward the passage He Ao had just burst open.
The underground parking garage was still an escape route.
However, as he dashed toward the passage, a giant iron ingot, tied with steel rebar like a massive pendulum, came swinging at him head-on.
The iron ingot didn’t harm Najia but momentarily hindered his step.
And in battle, sometimes a brief mistake is the difference between life and death.
Zzz—
The silver short sword pierced through the back armor, penetrating the blue energy core, and emerged from the front of Najia’s body.
"When I came in, I felt that this place was quite fitting to be your grave."
He Ao glanced at the iron ingot that had hindered Najia. It was an iron ingot He Ao had melded out of nearby scrap rebar to break the wall, casually tossed aside afterward. It could hinder Najia because it was designed like a miniature pendulum-like battering mechanism.
He Ao looked towards the depths of the parking lot, where the vehicle entrance, previously closed, was now open. All the other researchers had left, and there stood a petite researcher who seemed to be the one who had set up the trap.
She saw He Ao’s gaze turn to her, waved at him, then ran into the entrance.
He Ao withdrew his gaze, patted Najia on the shoulder,
"Old classmate, the place I picked for you is more spacious than your choice."
He pulled out the short sword and limped towards the huge transparent dome.
Najia opened his mouth but ultimately didn’t manage to say anything. He collapsed forward, powerless.
He Ao planted the sword in the ground, rummaged through his tattered clothes, and found an intact cigarette and an electronic lighter. He pressed it, but the lighter was broken.
He pulled out the lighter’s heating coil and set it on the nearby exposed electrical wire. Then he placed the cigarette on the coil, lighting the cigarette.
A violent explosion erupted behind He Ao, with hot waves blowing his clothes.
He clenched the cigarette between his lips, looking ahead.
A huge exotic beast crawled out through the opening of the Cage, smashing the transparent dome and sinking its sharp claws into the walls.
The bloody wound, once spurting blood, was now being plugged by writhing muscles. It roared and slowly shattered the layers of walls, climbing down to the ground.
He Ao bit down on the cigarette, gripping the wooden sword handle, and slowly drew out the sword.
