Chapter 782: Chapter 782: ’Fairy Tale’ Below (Super Long Chapter for Monthly Votes)
Boom—
Accompanied by a loud crash, an enormous table filled with delicious food was suddenly overturned, scattering numerous delicately beautiful dishes onto the ground.
The gigantic, bloated pig monsters, still sitting on their chairs and wearing paper masks, looked at He Ao in fury after a brief moment of shock.
"Oink oink"
They stood up, their bodies huge like mountain ranges, and charged directly at He Ao.
The monster that He Ao had first kicked out of the chair also got up and rushed at He Ao angrily.
He Ao quickly counted, there were a total of seven pig monsters here.
He side-stepped, thrusting his sword at the one closest to him, the same one from which he had taken the chair.
The sharp blade instantly penetrated the pig monster’s crimson flesh; as blood splattered, He Ao rotated his sword forward, slicing the creature’s body open completely.
The vivid red insides tumbled out along the wound, entering He Ao’s sight.
For some reason, at the sight of this flesh, He Ao didn’t feel disgust but ’hunger’ instead. The flesh seemed to be irresistibly charming, the finest food in the world, compelling him to devour it.
This overwhelming hunger momentarily influenced He Ao’s movements, but he quickly suppressed it, moved further ahead, withdrew the knight’s sword, and created some distance between himself and the horde of pig monsters.
Meanwhile, behind him, the high-backed chair where he had been standing was smashed to bits by an angry pig monster, while the rest picked up the legs and backs of the chairs and charged at him.
He Ao glanced back at these pig monsters; each one had strength around a thousand points. There were seven in total, and purely in terms of strength, even an average B-rank would be crushed here.
The monsters were getting stronger further back.
He Ao retreated a few more steps, his back against the wall.
The pig monster he had just slashed was now slowing down, falling behind, while the remaining six charged at He Ao with their mountain-like forms.
Along the way, they trampled the table He Ao had just flipped over into pieces; legs of tables and chairs were torn off to be wielded as weapons.
The hall seemed spacious, but it was a bit cramped for these bulky pig monsters.
Of course, for He Ao’s size, it was still quite roomy.
Before the monsters could surround him, He Ao dashed forward, rolling between the gaps of two pig monsters, and his sword whirled to sever the thigh of the one on the left.
That pig monster collapsed forward instantly as if a small hill fell, and the others nearby stumbled over it and also fell.
At that moment, the last pig monster, the one He Ao had ’opened up,’ managed to stop in time, avoiding the fate of being tripped. But immediately following, it met the sword light sweeping across the sky.
The massive pig’s head was circled by the knight’s sword, sliced off.
Accompanied by the falling pig head, He Ao stepped onto the body of the pig monster, did a backward somersault, and landed behind its huge carcass.
These pig monsters were all flesh creatures, with energy convergence points; some had two, while others only one.
For instance, the one He Ao just killed had two, and among the remaining monsters, the one with a severed leg had two, but one was cut by He Ao on its thigh, leaving just one.
Another pig monster in the middle had two convergence points, but the rest had only one.
Meaning, he still had seven energy convergence points to destroy.
Calculating the time and the blood volume of the opposing monsters in his mind, He Ao glanced over at the little girl in the red dress.
At the moment, the girl in the red dress stood in the corner, clutching the bread tightly and looking in He Ao’s direction, her little cheeks filled with shock.
He Ao withdrew his gaze, glanced at the closed door of the storage cabinet he had emerged from, and then looked forward again.
The headless pig monster’s body leaned forward, blocking the way for the other pig monsters that had just managed to get up.
However, two of them clutching table legs obviously had a longer reach. They swung the table legs in their hands, tilting their bodies to smash He Ao.
He Ao dodged to the side, widening the distance slightly.
Seeing him retreat, the pig monsters became excited and continued their noisy charge.
Once the distance among the pig monsters loosened again, He Ao didn’t retreat but instead advanced. He charged forward, squeezing through the gap between the two front pig monsters armed with table legs.
He leapt forward, driving his sword into the chest of a pig monster standing in the second row on the right.
Then with a strong slap, he drove the knight’s sword deeper into the pig monster’s body. Without pausing, he rolled forward, landing on the top of the pig monster he had just beheaded.
Almost at the instant his front foot left the ground, a massive table leg swept past with a sonic boom where he had just been.
If this massive force were to strike He Ao’s body, it could shatter his form completely.
The pig creature brandishing the table leg behind him seemed not to have expected He Ao to have anticipated its attack; after its swing whist through the air, it swept back, striking the neck of another pig creature right behind it.
This blow broke the neck of the pig creature, causing its entire body to stiffen.
The sharp knight’s sword pierced through the back of the pig creature. He Ao reached out, grasped the blade, and pulled the knight’s sword free as he rolled to the side.
Behind him, the pig creature he had just run through fell to the ground.
And by his side, the creature hit in the neck remained rigid, leaning sideways against the wall.
Seizing the moment the pig creature toppled, He Ao took a leaping step forward, appearing in front of the pig creature with the lame leg, who stood behind the collapsing figure, shielded by its massive body.
Then, under the dumbstruck gaze of this creature, He Ao drove his sword through its belly.
The pig creature with the lame leg stiffened, leaning against the wall as well.
In a single confrontation, three fell.
Although one of the kills came from its own comrade.
But now, the seven pig creatures had been reduced to merely three.
He Ao looked back at the remaining three pig creatures.
Two had one energy focal point, while one had two.
The one wielding the table leg, who had just scored the only kill among the pig creatures, had two energy focal points.
Although it had slain a comrade, its strength was indeed much greater than the others.
And it was while He Ao watched these three creatures that the little girl in the red skirt hidden in the corner appeared to notice something; her gaze shifted from He Ao and looked toward the slightly ajar door of the storage cabinet.
The rich scent of blood, mingled with a ’wine’-like fragrance, wafted into He Ao’s nostrils. More and more pig creature corpses lay around, and the lure of this fatal delicacy seemed to grow ever stronger.
He Ao felt almost out of control, as if compelled to stoop down and stuff the flesh of these creatures into his mouth.
He forcibly steadied himself, watching the pig creature in front of him wield the table leg and chair back, striking again. He stepped forward.
He had been relying on fist technique to amplify his strength since the start of the battle. The longer the fight dragged on, the more it taxed his body.
The knight’s sword fiercely swept away the incoming table leg, and He Ao, lowering his body, spun forward like a serpent.
As he dodged the sweeping leg of another creature at his side, his sword pierced the thigh of the pig creature with two energy focal points, destroying one of them.
In that instant, another pig creature lurking in the corner swung a chair back towards He Ao’s back.
He Ao immediately withdrew, and in that moment, his peripheral vision caught sight of the little girl, who was now standing at the entrance of the storage cabinet, frantically waving her hands at him.
Without a change in expression, as if he hadn’t seen the girl, He Ao raised his knight’s sword to dodge the incoming chair back, and with a light tap of his toe, his body soared into the air like a lark spreading its wings. He thrust out his sword, piercing beneath the chest of the chair-wielding pig creature.
Also at that moment, a smoke-shaped thin tube extended from the gap in the storage cabinet door. With a ’whoosh’, a dart coalesced from the smoke slashed through the air, aiming for He Ao’s forehead.
With pig creatures on both sides, He Ao had no room to dodge.
But somehow his toe had already found its way beneath the chair back, and using the knight’s sword in his hand as a fulcrum, he kicked out.
The broad chair back sprang up like a shield, blocking the path of the smoke dart.
It struck the chair back, rebounded, and impaled the pig creature behind He Ao who had been preparing to attack him with the table leg.
The chair back alone would not have had the hardness to repel the smoke dart, but when He Ao kicked it, he deliberately covered the impact point with a bit of his Divine Sense, momentarily reinforcing the chair back.
As the chair back stood upright, shielding his body, He Ao took the opportunity to draw his sword and spin, thrusting backward to pierce the last charging pig creature.
Boom—Boom—Boom—
With three consecutive sounds, the three pig creatures hit the ground.
Whoosh—Whoosh—
Just then, the sound of two darts cutting through the air reached him.
Thump—Thump—
He Ao lifted his knight’s sword and fiercely swung it forward, striking both darts.
The two darts instantly reversed direction mid-air by one hundred and eighty degrees, hurtling back towards the direction of the storage cabinet.
Seeing the darts return, the tightly closed cabinet door was suddenly flung open, and a figure burst out of the cabinet, narrowly avoiding the first returning dart.
But in that instant, the second returning needle reached him, and he immediately shifted to the side. The sharp needle pierced through his shoulder in a flash, and his clothes were instantly soaked with blood that glowed with a yellow light.
If he hadn’t moved quickly, the needle might have pierced his heart.
"Interesting little fellow,"
The shadowy figure forcefully pulled the needle from his shoulder. He was a long-haired man wearing a loose shirt, spattered with plenty of blood. He had a pipe formed of smoke in his mouth, which was now dissipating. He watched He Ao intently, "You’re a bit more troublesome than I expected."
"Cough,"
He raised his hand to cover his mouth and coughed lightly. Glancing at the blood in his palm, then at the person who had burst out of the cupboard, he asked, "Were you one of the attackers on the cathedral?"
He vaguely remembered seeing this long-haired man among those who attacked the cathedral,
"Thanks for dealing with those monsters for me. You don’t seem to be in good condition?"
The needle of smoke in the man’s hand slowly dissipated. He reached out, gripping the demon blade at his waist. He could vaguely see the blood on He Ao’s fingers, "You don’t look like the monsters from this region? Not from the Heretic Sect? Are you also an intruder? Perhaps we could cooperate?"
He moved forward, passing by the little girl in the red dress who had been standing beside him all along.
However, he seemed to not see the little girl in the red dress at all, proceeding straight towards He Ao.
As expected...
Catching a glimpse of the little girl in red behind the man, a hint of realization flashed through He Ao’s mind. He looked up at the man and calmly stated, "Cooperate how? By ambushing me?"
"After all, I can’t be sure whether you’re one of the monsters from this wretched place or not. A necessary test is acceptable," the long-haired man said with a chuckle, his hand still behind his back, gripping the demon blade tightly as he steadily approached He Ao.
He Ao looked up at the man and tilted his head. Then he asked in a low voice, "Here, you don’t have a quicker way to pass through or leave these rooms either?"
"This is one of the main bases of the Heretics, established for over a decade, not so easy to get through,"
The long-haired man chuckled. Seeing that He Ao seemed to believe his words, he moved closer step by step and continued,
"However, our leader has an object that can receive the guidance of Eternal Radiance, which can lead us forward. But we’ve been separated. If you want to leave this place, you can come with me. As long as we find our leader, I can get you out of here."
He then chuckled lightly, "Entering this place isn’t easy. You’ve come seeking something surely, given the effort you’ve made. These Heretic Faithful may have strayed from the path, but they are quite skilled at deceiving. There are plenty of treasures here, and if you follow us, you might find what you’re looking for."
"Is your leader a B-level?"
He Ao observed him, "The monsters in this room are already strong. What lies ahead is likely even stronger. If your leader isn’t B-level, I doubt it’ll be easy to reach the deepest part?"
"You don’t need to worry about that. Just follow us," the long-haired man narrowed his eyes, seemingly wary of this topic as he shook his head and stepped closer to He Ao.
Can’t fish for more information, huh?
But the attitude of the long-haired man was information in itself.
He seemed very ’confident’ in his team; chances are there is someone B-level, or they brought an item that could contend with a B-level.
At this moment, the long-haired man had reached the outermost pig monster. He Ao warned him softly, "The bodies of these monsters are very dangerous. I don’t recommend you go any further."
"Oh, it seems you’re not as ’innocent’ as you appear, still wary of me? I won’t fall for your deceit."
Dangerous? He is a heavily wounded child. Even if he’s strong, if a child can withstand this danger, how dangerous could it be?
After hearing He Ao’s warning, the long-haired man instead burst toward He Ao in a single bound, swiftly drawing the demon blade from his waist,
"Little guy, you’ve seen it, this place is so dangerous, and with you so badly injured, you obviously can’t go on. Why not help me out? Lend me your body and flesh. I’ll carry your share and get us both out of this hellish place."
His body began to glow with a bright light, and fine patterns emerged from beneath his skin.
Some sort of sacrificial ritual, then.
He Ao watched the transformation happening to the long-haired man.
Some core cultists liked to engrave on their bodies simplified rituals that only core Believers could use, which could help them quickly ’connect’ with the Divine Being and receive ’Grace.’
However, most of the time, these simplified sacrificial rituals were rarely used due to their many limitations and the fact that they took a far greater toll than standard sacrificial rituals. Moreover, they were particularly demanding on the Believers, as only those who were ’favored’ by the Divine Being could perform them.
And the effect of these rituals varied with each Divine Being. Most simplified sacrificial rituals of the Divine Beings could only sacrifice a portion of the Believer’s own life in exchange for a small amount of ’Grace.’
But it seemed that the ritual on this long-haired man allowed for the sacrifice of another person to obtain ’Grace’ for oneself.
Clearly, he had identified He Ao as the object of sacrifice.
This was probably also the reason he didn’t hesitate to attack He Ao right from the start.
But He Ao did not draw back, instead he watched the long-haired man rush towards him with a calm gaze.
The long-haired man was fast, reaching close to He Ao in a blink of an eye.
Just when he thought he was about to attack He Ao, his smile froze on his face.
His entire body uncontrollably stopped on the carcass of a gigantic pig monster, and he slowly crouched down.
A strong hunger suddenly attacked his whole body, taking control of him.
In fact, he had already felt this hunger just moments before, attributing it to his own fatigue; but when this intense hunger hit him, he realized that it wasn’t a feeling produced by his own body, but rather some sort of ’influence’ from the room.
He crouched down, staring at the flesh that was still oozing fresh blood.
In his eyes, this bloody flesh had turned into glistening jade-like delicacies, exuding an enticing allure that tugged at his soul.
That horrid hunger had taken control of his body, his soul; he struggled to lift his head, looking at He Ao, "What have you done?!!"
He Ao shrugged, "I warned you just now that this place is very dangerous."
The long-haired man opened his mouth, wanting to say more, but his body uncontrollably grabbed a handful of flesh and stuffed it into his mouth.
The sturdy flesh, which should have been tough, felt soft like ice cream cake, yielding easily to his grasp.
And the moment the flesh entered his mouth, his eyes bulged dramatically, as if he had tasted some unfathomable delicacy, leaning over the pig monster and ’devouring’ it frantically.
At that time, He Ao raised his head and glanced at the ’delicacies’ dangling from the ceiling.
After he had killed all the pig monsters, the entire room seemed to be undergoing some sort of change.
In his Spiritual Vision, the twisted patterns that made up the foundation of the room were writhing intensely, reconfiguring themselves.
And in He Ao’s normal vision, the long-haired man was still feasting frantically.
His body swelled uncontrollably, his ears grew large, his nose began to bulge, and his expanding body burst out of his clothes.
He was turning into a gigantic ’fat pig’ as he continued to feed.
He Ao, holding his Knight’s sword, watched the man’s transformation.
Were the ’pig monsters’ created in this way?
He watched the man’s continuous feasting and raised his Knight’s sword.
In that instant, a huge lasso dropped from Heaven, looping around the man’s neck and lifting him violently upwards.
The man’s body trembled violently, as though he was suffocating, but in the blink of an eye, his shaking body stilled.
His previously swollen body began to wither rapidly, shrinking into a skin-and-bones figure.
His body regained its human shape, but was devoid of the breath of life; he hung from the ceiling by the rope around his neck, his eyes staring and round.
He Ao looked up at the dense ’delicacies’ suspended above him.
He remembered the lasso that descended when he first emerged from the closet.
Were these foods ’brought’ here in this manner too?
At the same time, a strong scent of blood entered He Ao’s nostrils, and the radiance of the entire hall dimmed instantly, turning into a sinister blood-red.
He Ao looked down at his feet, where the pig monster carcasses were melting rapidly, their fresh redness spreading across the entire space.
Indeed, once all the pig monsters died at the same time, some underlying logic of the room had changed, and the formation of new pig monsters could not stop this transformation.
He quickly leapt away from the area of the pig monster carcasses.
All the pig monster bodies had dissolved except for two that were barely holding their shape against the wall.
He Ao looked over to where the little girl in the red dress had been standing, but there was no longer any sign of a little girl; only a piece of bread was drifting in the bloody air, unfolding into a journal written with fresh red ink.
He Ao dashed over and grabbed the journal; at the same time, a slight chill brushed his back.
Something was swaying above his head.
He looked up, and shadows swayed into view.
What was once ’delicacies’ in the sky had turned into dry, swinging carcasses hanging from the ceiling.
At that moment, all the carcasses were facing in He Ao’s direction, their eyes wide and fixed on him.
