The motorcycle’s beam traced a rainbow arc along the spines of curved buildings.
Vicious cold winds slashed across He Ao’s cheeks through the helmet, as a series of urgent red pop-ups almost filled the screen in his field of vision.
That was a warning of the motorcycle’s tires skidding.
In the rain, on steel frameworks and smooth paintwork, even the enhanced grip of the Wild Wolf motorcycle tires often resulted in skidding.
Soon, He Ao was about to reach the very top of this spine.
And at that moment, his tires slipped slightly, causing the whole bike to instantly veer to the left.
In that critical instant, he planted his left foot on the ground, forcefully providing a push to right the motorcycle.
A surge of pain radiated from his foot; even a C-level body couldn’t fully withstand such a strong impact.
In that instant, the whole motorcycle soared over the summit of the sail-like structure, charging diagonally upward into the 137-meter-high curtain of rain.
"Switch to performance mode,"
He Ao retracted his left foot.
"Performance mode activated."
With the mechanical female voice, a powerful jet of flames burst from behind the motorcycle.
Two potent miniature jet engines propelled He Ao towards the pitch-black sky.
He Ao piloted the skyward motorcycle, smoothly weaving through towering buildings, narrowly missing splendid high-altitude glass façades, and heading straight for the five Seraphim Mech units in the sky.
At the same time, the five mechs in the sky also spotted him.
He Ao revealed a smile, opened the metal box attached to the motorcycle, and took out a miniature laser cannon.
At such high speeds, aiming was very difficult.
He Ao activated Super Memory, and all the trajectories instantly took shape in his mind.
He pulled the trigger.
The dazzling laser pierced the dark sky in an instant, hitting the foremost mech.
One of the mech’s jet engines was destroyed, sputtering flames a few times before going completely dark.
After a brief silence, one of the mechs in the rear broke formation, accelerating at full speed toward He Ao.
He Ao turned off Super Memory, adjusting the output frequency of the twin jet engines, thereby altering his direction and turning towards another building.
The mech that had broken away charged fiercely but narrowly missed colliding with a high-rise building before it.
One of the Federation’s most advanced mechs was being toyed with by a motorcycle in the sky, and the pilot seemed to feel some sort of insult.
He angrily skirted the towering building and pursued He Ao at full speed.
At that time, a low energy warning popped up in He Ao’s field of vision.
He turned off the jet engines, tracing an arc through the sky with great inertia, landing on top of a nearby skyscraper and then immediately dashing out, downward into the dark curtain of rain.
The Seraphim Mech followed close behind.
Numerous laser beams scoured the sky, but He Ao evasively maneuvered through them by intermittently activating performance mode.
Finally, as He Ao landed on the roof of a slightly shorter building, a laser beam grazed past him; his hasty evasive action caused him to lose control of direction and once again, the motorcycle became unmanageable, plunging into the rain.
The Blazing Angel Mech hovered above the building, scanning briefly, then followed the direction of He Ao’s fall.
It descended along the trail to the front of a dark alley.
At the entrance of the alley, a black and damaged motorcycle lay on the ground, its wheels still spinning rapidly.
The alley was too narrow for the massive Seraphim Mech to squeeze through.
But the alley wasn’t deep and could be covered by weapons.
Just as the mech pilot was about to sweep the entire alley with a laser cannon, a deadly allure suddenly emanated from within the alley.
The mech paused for a moment, then crouched facing the alley; the cockpit of the mech opened, and a man in standard Exoskeleton Armor slowly emerged from inside.
Though this Exoskeleton Armor didn’t offer much in combat strength, it allowed for extreme speed. In times of crisis, it could quickly return the pilot to the mech. Accordingly, to facilitate rapid re-entry, the mech’s cockpit door would not close.
Under normal circumstances, mech pilots were not allowed to leave their mechs, but the strong seduction irresistibly drew the pilot into the alley to see for himself.
With high-rises on both sides of the alley, if he tried to force through, he’d just bury the alley, so he had to come down and look.
After all, how strong could a motorcycle rider be who relied on thermal weaponry for attacks?
Plus, he fell from such a height; he might have died on impact.
The pilot activated the infrared detector and walked step by step deep into the alley.
Finally, he reached the very end of the alley and saw the thing that had drawn him in.
A hundred federal coin bill drenched with rainwater lay on the ground. He looked up just in time to see a figure with tattered clothes and blood all over the body. In an instant, he grabbed the money with one hand and raised his gun with the other, his index finger on the trigger, aiming at the figure.
But before he could finish his motions, a flash of silver from a sword’s blade swiftly passed by, severing his neck.
Bright red blood gushed forth, soaking the hundred-dollar bill on the ground.
He Ao steadied the body, picked up the hundred-dollar bill, shook off the water, and tucked it into his pocket.
His body bore some cuts from the air’s resistance due to his high speed, but overall, he wasn’t seriously injured.
The motorcycle had naturally fallen from the high building, while he had used a short sword to pierce the walls, barely slowing his fall, and then he’d hopped down in stages.
However, after he’d landed, he didn’t run off but instead set a trap near the motorcycle.
He Ao propped up the body of the mecha pilot and climbed into the cockpit of the Blazing Angel Mech.
The mech’s interior lights were still on, but the controls were locked.
The Federation’s standard mecha control locks generally target energy sources; once the energy source is unusable, the mech is as good as scrap. But if one can bypass the energy restriction directly, then the control lock is entirely useless.
Thus, when He Ao was in Kaye City’s Copy World, he infiltrated Hell Apostle, went straight into the energy chamber, and removed the base control circuits. He then installed them in the Adam Type 2, replacing the energy core with Adam Type 2’s micro fusion reactor, and substituted the mecha’s original operating system with Eve.
It was akin to a computer being unusable, then directly installing a new system and replacing it with a new battery.
But now, He Ao didn’t have a micro fusion reactor, and although he had Eve, the computational core of his wristband wasn’t capable of supporting the mecha’s combat calculations.
Relying on distant network calculations, with such a large amount of data, any delay would have too great an effect on combat, so Eve was also unusable.
Hence, he could only resort to another method.
From Vian’s experience, theoretically, mechas like the Blazing Angel would be networked within the city to the Federation’s intranet. Their firewalls were extremely difficult to breach, which was the advantage of being connected.
But there’s also a downside to being networked: higher-level users can lock the mech at any time.
Noan certainly wouldn’t dare to connect to the network right now; after all, the chief of staff actually had the authority to lock down a mech temporarily. If a mech were to be locked during combat, there would be nothing left to do.
However, the firewall isn’t as formidable on a mech that is offline.
It is entirely possible to crack it through various other methods.
He Ao approached the mech’s mainframe and stabbed his short sword through the alloy panel underneath the central processing unit.
A bright red alarm instantly popped up.
He Ao paid no attention to the alarm, slicing a gap in the alloy panel with his short sword. Then, from the densely packed connecting wires below, he searched for a moment before pulling out three wires, tearing them apart to expose the inner metal wires.
"Alert! Alert! Main data input line has been compromised, energy locked, initiating self-destruct sequence, and the main energy core will explode in 30 seconds."
The harsh mechanical alarm resounded throughout the cockpit.
The trigger conditions for the self-destruction program were customizable; evidently, Noan had set them rather broadly to prevent the mech from being captured.
Ignoring the alarm, He Ao connected the ripped wires to magnetic points on his wristband, "Eve, help me assume identity."
"Received, scanning firewall version, approximately 25 seconds needed. Please follow instructions to input the original pilot’s biometric information."
Directly breaching the firewall in 30 seconds was definitely unrealistic, but He Ao had the body of the real mech pilot and could deceive the detection system to replace the pilot’s identity.
Following Eve’s instructions, He Ao sequentially entered the original pilot’s biometric information, such as palm prints, and passed the mech’s identity verification.
The countdown flashing on the main control screen stopped at the last three seconds, the extra two seconds being the time for Eve’s scan.
"Welcome back, Major Tom."
With the system’s announcement, the cockpit door slowly closed, and He Ao tossed aside the pilot named Tom, taking hold of the mech’s control stick.
The mech that had crouched on the ground slowly rose to its feet, its six jet engines shining brilliantly with firelight, like a Blazing Angel spreading its six wings.
Ronald didn’t know how to control a mech.
Indeed, apart from some professional military personnel and some wealthy individuals who liked mechas, few people knew how to control them. Just learning the complex array of buttons and levers took considerable effort, let alone maneuvering them with agility.
But Ronald’s inability didn’t mean that characters He Ao had embodied in the past couldn’t.
Vian systematically learned how to pilot a mech and even had a talent for it.
And now, those experiences and memories were also bestowed upon He Ao.
He Ao controlled the Blazing Angel Mech toward the sky. Initially, he felt a bit awkward, but as he continued to operate and with the enhancement of a C-level physique, along with Eve’s remote assistance, he quickly mastered mech piloting techniques.
Bright flames traced along the sky as He Ao quickly caught up to the other four mechs in the air.
Because He Ao had destroyed the lead mech’s main engine with a laser cannon shot, the entire squadron had slowed down.
However, by this moment, they were extremely close to the Glorious Palace.
"Tom, you’re back?"
Just then, a local area network voice communication was fed into the mech that He Ao was piloting.
