Chapter 157: Chapter 157: Documents (Please Subscribe, Add to Favorites, Request Monthly Tickets)
Joey? That little brat without even parents, or just someone with the same name?
But judging from the words of the person behind him, it was likely that this Joey was the one he knew.
"How could that be!"
Slanca’s first reaction was disbelief, those lowlifes...
He had just thought of standing up when He Ao’s icy voice came from behind, "Mr. Slanca, if you move again, I might have to try retrieving information from a corpse."
Slanca slowly reined in his movements, "What do you want to know?"
"Should I say, what does Mr. Slanca wish to tell me?"
He Ao said calmly.
"I don’t know anything, I just received orders to make you ’stop investigating’."
Slanca whispered.
Of course, once a person died, they would indeed stop investigating forever.
"How exactly did my parents die."
He Ao pressed the muzzle of his gun a little further against the back of Slanca’s head, pressing for an answer.
"I don’t know that either, I’m just a lackey who follows orders."
Slanca’s voice trembled slightly.
"Do you work for the Avis Energy Group?"
He Ao took a deep breath, "Is there a problem in the machinery factory of Avis?"
"I don’t know."
Slanca answered quietly.
Do you not know ten thousand times over?
He Ao let out a light sigh.
Slanca also felt that if he said "I don’t know" one more time, he really might not know whether he was alive or dead, so he hastened to add, "I have your information; it’s in my computer."
"Take me to see."
He Ao pulled back the gun slightly, signaling Slanca to get up.
Slanca stood up bit by bit, his hands weakly hanging down, and the blood soaked through his pajamas, streaming down his arms to his fingertips. During the slow process of standing up, he sneakily glanced at He Ao and noticed that he was holding a gun in his right hand.
Then he slowly walked toward the study on the side.
He pressed his fingerprint to open the door of the study and walked over to the computer desk. His computer desk was a wide silver platform without any monitors.
He Ao only saw him press his hand onto the desktop, and bursts of light suddenly lit up on the desk, seemingly reading his palm print.
"Unlock successful, good evening, Mr. Slanca."
The gentle female voice echoed in the room.
As this female voice sounded, a flickering light emerged from the computer.
The once barren desktop suddenly transformed into a layer of translucent mud, where green plants sprouted, grew, and rain descended from the sky, soaking into the soil.
The sprouts were watered by this rain, growing rapidly and wildly, and in the blink of an eye, they became a lush forest.
The vague movements of time slowly emerged from the curtain of rain, the bright light reflecting on the green leaves of the forest.
This was the startup animation of this type of holographic computer. The character Roy from the last Copy World also liked to use this kind of wilderness and nature startup animation.
After a brief pause, a beautiful girl like a sprite walked out of the forest, holding a bright green leaf in her hands. A lovely and cute female voice resounded in the room,
"Trison computer butler reminds you that this startup took ten seconds, you have beaten 99.9% of the computers in the Federation."
He Ao: ...
Slanca extended his hand into the air, waving lightly, and the cute little girl’s figure gradually faded and disappeared.
This was to close the pop-up window.
He Ao glanced at the network interface hidden under the roots beneath the computer, offline.
This computer was running offline.
Slanca’s fingers navigated through the forest, pulling out a hidden folder from a green leaf, then he opened this folder, and the forest imagery gradually disappeared, turning into floating files in the air.
Slanca opened one of the files, and Joey’s information slowly surfaced.
"Look."
As Slanca opened the file, he shifted slightly to the right, allowing He Ao’s gaze to freely rest on the document.
And in the instant He Ao’s gaze was fixed on the documents, Slanca violently twisted his body, fierce flames igniting in his hands. With one hand, he pushed aside the hand He Ao was holding the gun with, while his other hand reached for He Ao’s throat.
He had been so compliant for this very moment.
Clang—
Whoosh—
Thud—
The silver short sword was drawn by He Ao’s left hand, and in a flash, it pierced through the air, stabbing upward through Slanca’s heart.
Blood shone with a gray glow flowed down the short sword.
Slanca’s movements in his hands froze midway, his body was pushed away by He Ao’s sword.
The orange-red flames slowly dissipated in his palms, he opened his mouth, and what gushed out was tumbling blood.
He Ao pulled out the sword, gently stepped aside, and Slanca’s body, losing its support, fell forward at his feet.
He Ao never killed proactively, unless attacked.
The blood on the silver short sword quickly slid down the blade, leaving only the cold glitter of silver.
This sword was one that did not stain with blood upon contact.
He Ao sheathed his sword behind his back, stepped over the blood flowing from Slanca, and walked to the computer.
He scrutinized the document on the computer, which contained Joey’s information, including his birthplace, birthday, family relationships, personal character, and friendships.
At the bottom of the document, in red font, it was marked,
[Surveillance, eliminate if necessary].
The information wasn’t critical; He Ao’s fingers hovered in the air, he lightly gripped, and dozens of documents appeared in his line of sight.
These were all the files in this folder.
He Ao briefly skimmed through them and found that these files were all marked with [Surveillance, eliminate if necessary]. Yet aside from Joey, none involved personnel from Avis Machinery Factory.
He Ao returned to the parent directory, where five folders appeared in his view.
They were labeled
[Investigate], [Surveillance], [Surveillance, eliminate if necessary], [Eliminate], [Deceased]
He Ao clicked on the [Investigate] folder, which contained many files and people from various levels, he quickly skimmed through them; the majority consisted of individuals he did not recognize, and their personal information was unrelated to Avis Machinery Factory.
Soon, his hand paused on a familiar name.
Viktor.
The behind-the-scenes boss of Crown Casino, the leader of the Money Rat Gang, He Ao had briefly interacted with him during the search for Mu Xiu in the first official Copy World.
The file in Slanca’s computer on Viktor wasn’t very detailed.
It merely mentioned that he was the boss of the Money Rat Gang, had served 27 months in Ankum Prison in Dawn City, and was released a few months ago ahead of schedule.
After the destruction of the Crocodile Gang, he was trying to re-consolidate the underworld of the Aston District.
This was all of little concern to He Ao, but in the relationships section of this document, some information caught his attention,
[Has private connections with Smith, the field head of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Dawn Branch Bureau (suspected)]
[Has private connections with Christos, a council member of Dawn City (suspected)]
What should one say? Is the world a circle?
He Ao’s gaze continued downward – below was the evaluation of Viktor’s capability.
[Suspected to have a D-level Talent Sequence, proficient in close combat]
Below the entire file was a note in red font,
[Viktor might have advanced to C-level very likely, his abilities leaning towards combat, extremely dangerous].
It looked like a note left by Slanca, dated just a few days ago. The wounds on Slanca might have been inflicted by Viktor.
Selena was right to say Viktor was indeed very dangerous.
—
While He Ao was perusing the files on Slanca’s computer, a frail man in a white suit entered the building.
A faint scent of men’s cologne wafted from him, giving off a youthful and somewhat delicate appearance.
After entering the building, he did not engage with the receptionist who stood up but glanced around, found Elevator No. 2, entered, and keyed in the temporary security code 1331.
The elevator’s display flickered before revealing the number ’17’.
