He Ao extended his hand to catch the long silver strands of hair that fell through the crack of the door.
An hour in the main world is roughly equivalent to a day in the Copy World, and this mission spanned about two days in the main world.
Which means in the Copy World, ’Roy’ had been dead for over a month now.
The entire room was tidied up very neatly, completely unlike the filth and clutter when He Ao was still around. He Ao wrapped the strands of hair around the doorknob and gently closed the door.
There was a thin layer of dust on the floor, but it wasn’t obvious. Walking across it didn’t leave any distinct footprints.
He Ao walked straight to the bathroom, which had no door.
He Ao stood at the doorway, looked at the scene inside the bathroom, and then he paused for a moment.
The original sink had been replaced with a mechanical platform that emitted a faint luminescence, and a short sword with a wooden handle, sealed in a cool mechanical scabbard, along with a small black wooden box were quietly placed on the platform.
He Ao walked up to the platform and gently opened the black wooden box; a pistol with dark red patterns appeared in his view.
The Butcher Pistol.
Then he closed the box and picked up the short sword next to it.
Clang—
Accompanied by a crisp sound of a sword ringing, the cold silver light reflected in He Ao’s eyes.
Strictly speaking, this sword had already fallen at the Sky Plaza of the Nord Building, and falling there was tantamount to falling into the pockets of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation was known for its policy of easy entrance and no exit, especially for treasures like this sword which were obviously valuable. Even if they were to be returned, it would be delayed for three to five months until the owner filed a lawsuit in court.
Vianne must have had Selena’s help to get this sword back.
Selena had seen Regit use this sword and had also seen Roy use it.
He Ao closed the scabbard and placed the sword back on the platform.
The mechanical scabbard that Vianne made for the sword was slightly heavy.
This sword was extremely sharp, capable of cutting through iron as if it were mud. Therefore, Vianne must have designed some kind of mechanical structure to maintain the sword within the scabbard without excessively wearing it down, extending the lifespan of the scabbard.
This was a top-notch sword, and it was not a Transcendent item, meaning it had no side effects. Using it would not require meeting certain conditions or paying any price, unlike when using the Butcher Pistol.
Yet such a fine sword, along with the scabbard, was simply forged by a new ironsmith shop in the Aston District that Regit had randomly chosen. Although it cost him all his savings at the time, the sword was well worth the money, and even more so in value.
The craftsmanship of the ironsmith shop couldn’t be said to be poor, but in a bustling metropolis like Dawn City with all kinds of convenient industrial products available, blacksmiths could barely make a living. The following year when Regit passed by that area again, the ironsmith shop had been replaced by a convenience store.
Regit could not be considered lucky, but neither could he be called unfortunate. One could easily find a book in the library with the Body Tempering Technique that pushes the limits of ordinary people, and any store on the street could forge an unparalleled sword. For most people, having these two successful items was already extremely fortunate.
But apart from these two things, his life was not exactly lucky. His father died early, he had to struggle for a living from a young age, and just when his life started to improve through the Martial Arts, he was maliciously crippled, his progression in the Martial Arts stalled at the final threshold, unable to advance further.
Life is like that, a bit of fortune accompanied by much misfortune.
In some ways, Joey was the same—seventeen years of a plain and happy life shattered in just under a month, plunging him into the deepest abyss.
But in the darkest Abyss, there is a silver lining.
He Ao placed his hand under the metal platform on the family portrait, tipping over the picture,
it meant that no matter which direction you went, things could not get any worse.
One clockwise turn, eight counterclockwise.
"Security password has been reset. Please stand in the designated position and re-enter iris information,"
accompanied by the familiar mechanical female voice, He Ao looked up at the mirror.
This mechanical code for the reset system could be changed, but He Ao didn’t change it.
It was a trace that Roy’s father had left in this world.
Vianne also knew about this secret chamber. After Roy’s father died, she put the ’Onlooker’ and ’Mercenary’ secret medicines inside the secret chamber.
But she probably didn’t reset the mechanical code of the system, otherwise she would have placed the Butcher Pistol and the dagger inside as well.
As He Ao re-entered his iris and palm print, the entire secret chamber slowly opened.
Everything in the secret chamber remained as it was when he left it last time.
He Ao walked straight to the combat suit, taking it down. Roy was too fat before and couldn’t fit into the combat suit, but Joey’s figure was just right.
After such a huge blow, Joey’s body was much thinner, and no longer resembled the chubby boy He Ao had seen at Sky Plaza; he carried an ill, weakened aura.
The combat suit was still a bit large, and it was heavy. It took considerable effort for He Ao to tighten every possible fastener, barely making the suit fit.
This combat suit was much more expensive than the one Ande wore from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and it was also much heavier, typically used for wilderness explorers or combat-ready Wilderness Hunters and City Defense Army.
But the weight was beyond He Ao’s expectations. It seemed Roy’s father had bought a luxury model. A Transcendent like he would have moved effortlessly wearing it, but with only a physical strength of 8, He Ao could barely walk in it.
He Ao smiled bitterly and then pressed a button on the inside of the left sleeve. Instantly, the sound of mechanical parts rubbing against each other filled the air, and He Ao immediately felt the weight on him lighten significantly, his strength even seemed greater than before.
This was the standard Emergency Auxiliary System included with such combat suits, which could use some parts to momentarily support the suit, forming a very basic version of exoskeleton armor. However, activating this auxiliary feature significantly reduced the wearer’s flexibility.
Therefore, those wearing this combat suit would only use this system in emergencies, such as when they were severely injured or missing limbs, to barely regain some mobility.
The system’s maintenance time wasn’t long, lasting about 30 minutes to an hour.
He Ao connected his smart bracelet to the combat suit, the linkup was smooth with no ID lock, which meant it was likely a cracked version.
The bracelet began to automatically install the operating software for the combat suit. Once the software installation was complete, the bracelet started displaying the remaining battery power of the suit.
[Battery 27%, Emergency Auxiliary System can be used for approximately thirty minutes.]
Alright, the battery was larger than that of a standard combat suit, no wonder it was so heavy.
He Ao looked up, gazing at the walls surrounding the secret chamber.
A black hooded cloak, previously hidden by the combat suit, caught his attention.
