The person beside him immediately reacted, pointing the gun in the direction of the noise.

Then he felt a hand stretch out from behind his head, cold fingertips brushed past his cheek, and then covered his mouth, a sharp folding knife pierced into his throat, he struggled to squeal, the split throat making a whining, leaking sound.

"What the f**k is that, die!!!!"

A man nearby fiercely aimed in the direction of the noise and pulled the trigger.

The spraying flames momentarily dispelled the darkness, revealing the shocked man not far from him, with blood gushing from his throat. The searing bullet tore through his body, making him look like a putty pierced by numerous needles.

"Ah!!! You son of a bitch, what are you shooting for!!!!"

Cries of pain came from the darkness, from someone hit by a stray bullet.

"I···"

The shooter had just opened his mouth when he felt a cold object touch his throat, fear crawled up his spine.

"What the hell is it, come out, turn on the lights, do it quick!!!!"

Following that, the one hit by the stray bullet also realized something was amiss, and he aimed his gun barrel into the pitch-black night, his finger on the trigger.

Then, with a strangled whimper, his body slowly fell.

"Who is it?!"

A new person noticed the unexpected turn of events.

In this silent and brief interval, each time someone raised their gun, there came a muffled groan of a body hitting the ground.

The oppressive sense in the night dispelled the silence, with everyone vigilantly watching the veil of night, fingers tightly on the triggers.

Thump—— Thump—— Thump——

The muffled beats of a heart became the sole accompaniment in this night.

Click——

The light sound of a switch suddenly rang out, and in an instant, the bright light drove away the darkness. This abrupt change startled everyone so much they almost pulled the trigger.

The lights here weren’t limited to the one that had just been smashed; it was gang rules to leave one light as a signal and at the same time, it’s easier to hide under the cover of darkness.

The rooster-headed man withdrew his hand from the switch and turned to look at the pool of blood on the ground. Five people had already fallen into this pool of blood, "F**k, we’ve got to find this bastard and turn him into a sieve."

He spat out contemptuously, looking at the other gang members ahead, while those members opened their mouths slightly, staring at him dumbfounded and began to back away step by step.

"What are you all staring at me for?"

The rooster-headed man looked at the crowd in confusion.

At that moment, a gang member slightly raised his gun, pointing it behind him.

The rooster-headed man realized something, and his entire body stiffened.

A hand gently reached out from behind, resting on his shoulder

Click——

The switch was turned off again, and darkness once more enveloped everyone.

"F**k, just die!!!!!"

Finally, unable to bear the horrifying pressure, someone fired in the direction of the rooster-headed man.

Suddenly, the spitting flames illuminated the silent night once again, and in the glow of the flames, one could vaguely see the rooster-headed man’s dumbfounded gaze, his garment dyed red with blood, his body riddled with bullet holes, and the figure behind him long gone.

A cold hand rested on the neck of the person who had fired last.

The silver folding knife tinged with red shone seductively under the spitting flames.

"Die!!!!!"

"Die!!!!!"

As the gunshots dwindled one by one, people finally realized something, they frantically fired into the night, trying to kill the enemy lurking in the darkness.

They chose the darkest alley in the night as their eternal resting place.

"Quick, quick, kill him! Shoot! Shoot!"

In the darkness, a gaunt shadow shouted while holding a gun, retreating step by step, picking up speed.

Soon, the fierce gunshots ceased, and everything seemed to reset to the beginning.

The gaunt figure, without any hesitation, turned around abruptly, only to collide with another figure.

Click—

The crisp sound of a switch echoed suddenly, and light returned to the world.

The gaunt shadow stared blankly at the frail-looking teenager in front of him and took a couple of steps back.

"Cough... Are you the boss of this gang?"

He Ao eyed the slender figure before him, his gaze falling on the hyena pattern on his chest, "What is this gang... Hyena Gang?"

The gaunt man gripped the handle of his gun tightly and took two steps back.

Observing his movement, He Ao glanced over and gestured for him to look behind.

The gaunt man turned his head and saw only the blood that covered the street, each person wearing an expression of surprise or madness lying motionless on the ground.

The dozen or so people guarding this place were all lying here, now silent forever.

Actually, all this had happened in just a minute or two.

He swallowed hard, slowly raised his hands, and tossed the gun aside, retreating step by step as he looked towards He Ao, "I am... the Hyena Gang... the local leader of the Hyena Gang here, what would you like me to do?"

"Who told you my information?"

He Ao watched him calmly.

This pitch-black street was flanked by abandoned buildings, and He Ao was standing beside an abandoned small building that was different from the others; it had been converted into some sort of stronghold, complete with extinguished electronic fires inside that were used for heating.

This small building was equipped with three bright street lamps, He Ao had smashed one, turned off one, and the last one was currently on.

"Someone from the black market commissioned us to keep an eye on you."

The gaunt man said with a trembling laugh.

"Does keeping an eye include extortion and death threats?"

He Ao kept his distance from the gaunt man, forcing him to retreat step by step into the depths of the small building.

"We, uh, threw in a little extra service."

The gaunt man said with an awkward laugh.

The same surveillance job, when given to different people, yields different results.

If given to some professional security companies, or gangs that lean towards the lawful side, it might just be plain surveillance.

But if given to ruthless gangs that like to kill and loot, especially when combined with certain personal information, such as having no relatives, being young, or having just received a large sum of death compensation, it might induce these gangs to have other ideas.

Clearly, the Hyena Gang was the latter type.

Such a gang would never be content with just a little extortion; they are like wolves trailing behind their prey, pushing their victims slowly into a corner before devouring them completely, bones and all.

The person who assigned this task clearly wanted Joey dead.

He Ao quietly stared at the gaunt man, "Who issued the task?"

"We don’t know..."

The gaunt man hastened to shake his head, "On the black market, you don’t find out who the client is when you take on a job."

"Black market rules," He Ao slowly lifted the folding knife in his hand, the sharp blade leaning against the man’s cheek, sliding down bit by bit, some of the blood that had splattered on the handle of the knife had already dried, leaving behind several dark red lines,

"Every job that keeps the client’s identity hidden requires a reliable intermediary, so who is the intermediary?"
