Chapter 1156: Chapter 1156: Chaos Magic Wand (Two more Chapters for monthly votes)

South City · City Defense Army Command Center

He Ao stepped down from the driverless taxi and looked towards the heavily guarded gate ahead.

The guards saw him approaching and moved aside to open the gate.

He Ao nodded lightly to these guards and then quickly walked into the Command Center building of the City Defense Army.

"Mr. Suote,"

A young officer in the lobby saw He Ao enter and quickly came over, "General Owai said if you’re available, you can go directly to the command room on the 57th floor to find him."

"Okay."

He Ao nodded, glanced at the signs hanging in the hall, and asked, "How do I get to Storage Room Twelve?"

"You go through that channel,"

The young officer turned around, pointing to the third channel on the left upon entering, "Go straight, and then to the end, you will find the storage area. Storage Room Twelve is the one in the farthest inside, and the elevator next to the storage area can take you directly to the floor where the command room is located."

He took out a black card, "This is your Authority Card which will allow you to reach any floor of this building, it can also open all non-private gatekeeping doors. The phone number on the back is mine; you can call me if you have any questions."

"Okay, thank you."

He Ao reached out and took the black card, flipped it to look at the note attached to the back, nodded, and quickly walked into the channel.

Following the young officer’s directions, he arrived at the storage area quickly and approached the door at the very end of it.

He raised the card in his hand and swiped it in front of the lock on the door.

With a ’beep,’ the door opened, revealing a slightly narrow storage room filled with cold air.

This storage room contained nothing else but a lone silver stretcher bed, on which a body covered with a white cloth was lying.

He Ao approached the stretcher bed and gently lifted the white cloth.

The head of Denock, with a massive penetrating wound, came into his field of view.

Last night, when cleaning up the battlefield in North City, he had asked General Owai to also bring Denock’s body here for temporary safekeeping.

As a strong B-rank cultist, Denock’s body still concealed an abundance of contamination from the God of Chaos.

This contamination would increasingly spiral out of control over time, thus requiring a well-secured and concealed space to store the body to prevent excessive contact with others and subsequent contamination.

Ultimately, General Owai suggested this storage room in the corner to He Ao.

Holding the white cloth, He Ao’s gaze swept over Denock’s blood-covered face, and then he lifted the cloth further.

Denock’s scar-riddled body appeared in He Ao’s view.

As a B-rank Transcendent, this body was strong enough that, after a night, there was no sign of corruption or mutation.

Soon, He Ao’s gaze fell on the black spike that Denock had been clutching.

Technically, that was no longer ’a black spike.’

At this moment, the spike was deep in color, more slender in shape, its black epidermis transformed into a kind of semi-transparent, coagulated blood-like, red jade. Fine red veins flowed beneath this sanguine surface like blood vessels.

Where the spike’s handle was intended for holding, it swelled like flesh, enclosing a fist-sized ruby, heart-like in appearance, within its bud-like folds.

Overall, this ’spike’ had turned into a somewhat bizarre ’Ruby Scepter.’

He Ao slowly approached the scepter, his gaze fixed on the mutating patterns of the scepter.

Meanwhile, behind him, ’Denock,’ whose eyes had been tightly shut, suddenly opened them, revealing the bloody hollow beneath the eyelids.

He Ao seemed oblivious to all this as he stooped, meticulously examining the Ruby Scepter.

After a brief contemplation, he reached out to grasp the scepter.

At that instant, ’Denock’ lying on the stretcher suddenly sat up.

Then, ’Bang—’

Accompanied by a faint sound, without turning his head, He Ao casually raised his other empty hand and accurately knocked on ’Denock’s’ forehead.

Spurt—

’Denock’s’ body stiffened, falling backwards, lying down again.

He Ao exerted a little force and slowly pulled the Ruby Scepter out of ’Denock’s’ hands.

Thud—

Then the next second, the body sat up again; gripping the Ruby Scepter, its hand tightened fiercely once more, starting to wrestle with He Ao over the scepter.

With a ’boom’ sound of a sonic boom, his other blood-smudged hand shot towards He Ao’s neck in an attempt to strangle him.

He bared his blood-stained teeth, his gaze fixating on He Ao’s body, as if there was something particularly attractive about He Ao.

Bang—

The hand that struck with a sonic boom was effortlessly caught by He Ao’s raised empty hand.

"Alas—"

He Ao turned around, looked at the sitting-up ’Denock’, and sighed lightly.

He forcefully seized the Ruby Scepter from ’Denock’s’ hands, activating Super Memory.

Mental Shock!

A massive Soul Power surged directly towards the remnants of a soul lingering over Denock’s body, then shredded it instantly.

’Denock’s’ body twitched, the blood red in his eyes gradually faded, and he fell backwards, collapsing onto the stretcher bed, completely motionless.

Alive, you couldn’t beat me—why would you think there’s hope after you’ve died?

He Ao glanced at the Ruby Scepter in his hand and sighed.

A faint red light emerged from Denock’s body, then converged in the air into a line, flowing into the scepter in He Ao’s hand.

This was due to the remnant soul of Denock, and the ’power’ that still lingered in Denock’s body.

Now, as Denock’s remnant soul was torn apart, these powers also lost their control and were drawn into the Ruby Scepter.

Last night, Denock was certainly dead for sure; his energy circuit and soul both shattered, which He Ao had confirmed repeatedly.

Theoretically, Denock’s soul should have dissipated slowly and completely after his death, with no chance of turning into an Evil Spirit, as his soul had shattered when he died.

But clearly, that isn’t how things turned out.

A fragment of Denock’s soul didn’t dissipate but underwent some kind of ’mutation’ and ’fused’ once again with his body.

That was what caused the recent act of ’playing dead’.

This wasn’t Denock’s resurrection, nor was it the transformation into evil spirits mentioned in mysticism. It was more like the corpse merged with the remnant soul and mutated into some kind of monster.

At the moment, Denock’s body still retained much of the Grace’s power, and this monster wasn’t going to be easy to subdue had it come to a direct confrontation.

However, the flaw of this ’Corpse Monster’ is that its soul is not strong enough, almost equal to having no soul at all, and Super Memory is capable of soul attack to some extent.

That’s why He Ao managed to handle it so easily.

As for the reason behind this ’Corpse Metamorphosis’.

He Ao looked down at the wand in his hand which was still absorbing the red light.

Some twisted and chaotic whispers followed his touch and gaze, echoing in his mind.

Denock housed more of the God of Chaos’s ’Grace’ than Carlo did.

In the end, the contamination of the Extraordinary Item he formed was several times more than that of the ’Bloody Slaughter Knife’ left by Carlo.

The ability ’Chaos Art’ does not seem to cause soul and corpse mutation.

Denock’s ’playing dead’ was likely influenced by such higher powers of the God of Chaos.

As the ’red light’ within Denock’s corpse was completely drained by the Ruby Wand, its radiance began to draw inward, while at the same time, a stream of information entered He Ao’s mind.

The name of this wand is the ’Chaos Magic Wand’.

Its main ability is also quite straightforward: ’Chaos Art’.

This ability can disrupt the ’complex and orderly functioning’ within a hundred meters radius of the wielder’s field of view.

It includes interfering with electronic devices, affecting the muscle movements of Transcendents or ordinary people, disturbing the operation of energy circuits, interrupting spells and Arrays, and even meddling with ritual proceedings.

Yet utilizing this ability incurs a ’cost’.

Either He Ao kills someone, using their blood and soul as a Sacrifice, or he pays the price himself; the greater the disruption and the stronger the target, the higher the cost required.

The cost associated with interrupting rituals is the largest, even the most ordinary ’spirit summoning’ rituals not involving Higher Beings require a hefty price.

This ability is potent, but the cost of using it is equally steep. Moreover, the wand yearns for blood. If there is no killing for a long time, the delay of using the ability gets longer. After He Ao releases the ability, there’s a wait before it takes effect, like experiencing lag in a video game.

Apart from Chaos Art, this wand also comes with some other ’additional abilities’ or rather ’side effects’.

This subsidiary ability is called ’Chaotic Soul’.

Its effect is also simple: all corpses within fifty meters of the wand may chance to rise from the dead. The more complete the soul and the shorter the time of death, and the longer they stay near the wand, the higher the chance of resurrection.

Although the ability description of the wand doesn’t specify what the ’playing dead’ corpses would become.

But based on He Ao’s recent observation of ’Denock’, the awakened corpses may develop a very strong longing for blood and soul and might uncontrollably attack living beings.

It sounds like something a Necromancer in stories would do.

He Ao looked down at the wand in his hand.

Theoretically, such abilities should be found on Grim Reaper-related items, yet it appears on an item related to the God of Chaos.

Is there some kind of ’connection’ between the God of Chaos and the Grim Reaper?

Or to say, is disturbing life and death also considered chaos?

Looking at the wand in his hand, He Ao calmed his heart and sank his Divine Sense into it.

The information that comes with Extraordinary Items doesn’t include all of the abilities and side effects, especially those related to Higher Beings.

For example, given the contamination that comes with this wand, He Ao doesn’t doubt it could subconsciously impact all the people around him into becoming chaotic Believers.

After several attempts, He Ao successfully ’etched’ the Control Array on the surface of the wand. Although the Array is being rapidly consumed by the power of the wand and needs to be reinforced from time to time, it is still completed.

As the invisible connection was established, He Ao made the wand restrain its own contamination.

The extraordinary on the wand began to fade away, and gradually returned to the mundane.

The contamination towards the holder and those who are in close proximity still exists; He Ao can still hear the chaotic mad ravings in his head, but the contamination to the surrounding people has been greatly reduced.

Getting a Mithril container from General Owai should be enough to seal off the usual contamination.

He Ao casually clipped the wand to his waist and glanced at Denock on the stretcher bed before reaching down to pick up the white cloth from the ground.

With such potent contamination and Grace, if Denock had chosen not to remain human and had completely twisted and transformed himself into a monster of the Evil God, alongside the ability ’Chaos Art’ and his rich combat experience, it would be tens to hundreds of times harder for He Ao to defeat him.

He Ao slowly lifted the white cloth in his hand and covered Denock’s body and face.

He touched the Chaos Magic Wand at his waist and headed towards the door.

The distorted mad whispers continued to Echo in his mind.

It’s only because He Ao is somewhat resistant; otherwise, anyone else handling this thing would’ve turned into a twisted chaos monster by now.

He Ao reached the elevator outside the storage area, scanned his card to activate the elevator, and pressed the floor for the command center.

He flipped the card and looked at the phone number on the back, then picked up the wristband and dialed out.

"Mr. Suote, what can I do for you?"

The officer’s voice came from the wristband.

"Arrange a few robots for me. I need them to incinerate the corpse from storage room 12, use an ultra-high-temperature Incinerator, and try not to let living people come into contact with that corpse," He Ao said slowly.

"Understood,"

The officer responded, and it seemed that he wasn’t new to handling such ’dangerous corpses.’ "The command center has an ultra-high-temperature Incinerator. I will proceed with it right away, and the entire cremation will be recorded and live-streamed by robots."

"Thank you, you have my gratitude," He Ao said, lightly nodding as he hung up the phone.

Ding—

The elevator arrived, and the doors opened to both sides.
