Chapter 1145: Chapter 1145: We Have No Reinforcements (Seeking Monthly Pass for Long Chapter)
Viko looked up at the magnificent mechs twinkling in the sky and for a moment felt that the world had become something beyond his understanding.
As early as the moment when the motorcycle’s roar sounded, those soldiers densely packed within the city gates had already heard the noise.
It’s just that ’Suote’s movements were too fast, so fast that these soldiers hadn’t fully reacted yet, and the speeding vehicle had already crossed the defenses and charged into the battle formation.
Viko had seen such scenes in many legendary stories or TV dramas.
The heroic Knight, with his own steed, descended in a blaze of glory and charged into the enemy lines, feeding his sharp blade with fresh blood.
But those were mostly works set against the backdrop of cold weapons in the Era of the Great Cataclysm, or where the protagonist controlled a technologically advanced and highly decorated top-tier Mecha.
He had also fantasized countless times about himself being such a heroic figure, standing amidst the radiance, saving the world in a battle like no other.
However, he had never imagined this kind of scene—riding a motorcycle, undauntedly rushing into the battle formation equipped with electromagnetic cannon defenses and fully armed soldiers, in the glow of the Mechas.
Good heavens, such things are not even written in the most fabricated legends.
The only feeling he had about this was.
This is crazy.
This is thrilling.
So thrilling that he had just thought of screaming when a booming electromagnetic cannon blast grazed past him, blasting a large crater into the ground beside him.
All he could do was open his mouth wide, unable to utter a sound.
The tense muscles pressing against his chest almost completely silenced him.
Or maybe he did make a sound, but it was lost in the thunderous roar of the cannons.
He wanted to open his mouth, to suggest finding a place to hide or wait for reinforcements.
But he didn’t even have the chance to speak.
Because the army directly in front of them had fully reacted, and the well-positioned electromagnetic cannons were mercilessly raining down a torrent of shells upon them.
For the first time, Viko realized what a real battlefield was like.
The flying electromagnetic cannons didn’t go ’whoosh—’ and then ’splat—’ landing next to the protagonist like they did on TV.
Or leave long streaks of light for the audience to see the trajectory of the beautiful shells.
Viko only felt that the moment he saw the muzzle of the electromagnetic cannon light up, the thunderous explosion had already sounded beside him.
The intense flames had already scorched his back.
At such a close distance, the speed of the shell accelerated by electromagnetism was simply imperceptible to the naked eye.
It just needed a moment to explode like an invisible sharp blade, ’whoosh—’ and shatter everything.
This was the creation of human technology; it was also the foundation that allowed humanity to establish civilization in the wilderness.
However, Viko had no time to be shocked by the power of this technological civilization.
Because he realized, at the same moment as he discovered the terror of the electromagnetic cannon, that it couldn’t hit them at all.
The flickering motorcycle seemed to be like a nimble steed, easily weaving through the barrage of gunfire.
The shells that exploded fiercely one after another fell beside them, yet never hit them.
And the Knight who was controlling this ’steed’ simply held the blood-colored blade, bent his body, and maneuvered the wild horse to dash forward at the highest speed.
Viko didn’t know how fast they were going; all he could feel was the wind, carrying searing hot waves, slashing fiercely at his face, even threatening to scrape a few traces of blood from it.
Given the speed of the motorcycle, he had no doubt that if it swerved even slightly now, he would be thrown off and then crash into a solid wall, getting smashed to pieces.
Yet the motorbike never wobbled, from the very beginning; it moved steadily forward, as if walking on flat ground amidst the intense battlefield.
The brilliance in the sky grew ever stronger; it was the energy accumulating in the muzzles of the Mechas flying overhead.
The Mechas had flown in from outside the city gates, unlike the original garrison that had ample preparation time.
Still, it didn’t seem like the Mechas needed much more time to store energy, did it?
A thought flashed through Viko’s mind.
He gazed at the dark Mecha that soared into the clouds like a mountain range. Just earlier, he had been looking forward to seeing this Mecha, and now he was almost completely looking up at it vertically.
Are we moving that fast?
The next second, he saw the dark muzzle depressing, aiming straight at his forehead.
They had completely charged to the front of the battle line, even right up to the foremost electromagnetic cannon.
Viko opened his mouth, wanting to shout.
But before Viko could fully open his mouth, the ’Knight’ in front, hunched over, finally raised the blood-colored blade in his hand.
Then the ’Knight’ lifted his hand, without hesitation, and threw the blood-colored radiance upward.
That scarlet glow instantly cut through the moving barrel like slicing through tofu, and then amidst the fierce explosion of the electromagnetic cannon, spiraled upward, rushing into the muzzle of the Mecha twinkling in the sky in a blink.
In the silent snowy night, there seemed to be the faint sound of a sharp blade slicing paper, the crackling of electricity passing by, or perhaps, nothing had happened at all.
Everything was so quiet.
The severed muzzle was thrown upward, the speeding motorcycle slightly adjusted its angle, passing by the now disabled electromagnetic cannon.
Boom—
Behind the motorcycle, the towering Mecha, vast like a mountain range, suddenly erupted, covering all the light under the snowy night, illuminating the battlefield in the dark as if it were daylight.
The howling cold wind buffeted the dark jacket, making a whipping sound in the scorching wind waves.
At this moment, all the soldiers behind fell silent instantly, lifting their heads and staring dumbfounded at the figure riding the motorcycle, rushing towards them at high speed.
Flames like the sun outlined the silhouette of the figure, and the blood-red Sword Light circled in the sky, returning to his palm.
He was charging from beneath those flames, like a Knight returning from hell, cleansing this world of its sins.
Viko felt his brain had completely stopped thinking, only chaotic words forming disjointed sentences.
He didn’t know why he was here, nor why he had gotten involved in this matter.
But he knew that he seemed to be experiencing a legend.
"Can you ride?"
That gentle voice, with a trace of calm, called back his scattered thoughts.
"What?"
Viko snapped back to reality, as the intense gunfire and the howling wind abruptly returned to his ears.
He looked forward and discovered that they had already charged deep into the defensive line, where soldiers in Exoskeleton Armor were facing the flames and attacking them ferociously.
Above them in the sky, Mechas, identical to the one they’d just faced, were rushing through from the gates, locking onto them as their target.
They hadn’t escaped the battlefield.
What they’d just dealt with was merely a ’point man’ standing at the gate.
Right now, they were penetrating deep into the heart of the battlefield.
Before those chaotic thoughts completely occupied his brain, Viko steadied his mind and amid the intense gunfire, he answered the question from the figure in front, "A little."
"Good, hold onto the handlebars and follow the bike," came the calm voice.
Immediately after, before Viko could react, the figure in the blood-stained jacket suddenly let go of the handlebars, seemingly ready to leap off.
In that moment, numerous thoughts exploded in Viko’s mind, converging into one question that he shouted out, "Are we not waiting for reinforcements?"
The figure in the black jacket, like a charging tiger, leapt from the front of the motorcycle, with a blood-tinted glow, he charged at a Mecha in the sky heading towards them and pierced through it in a flash.
As fiery explosions once again erupted in the sky, the calm response only just reached Viko’s ears in a daze,
"We have no reinforcements."
The figure in the black jacket, like a sharp blade, thrust into the crowded front lines of the battle, forcibly opening a rift in the battle formation with blood and fire.
Viko watched this scene, stupefied.
His mind felt even emptier.
The strong smell of blood spread incessantly into his nostrils, and his field of view was filled with severed limbs and debris.
These soldiers hadn’t all died at the hands of that ’Knight’ up ahead.
Many of them, due to the dense battle formation, died under the barrages from their own teammates who had no chance to dodge.
This is the battlefield, the real battlefield.
Viko felt an invisible force seem to clutch at his heart at this moment, his body subconsciously leaning forward, grasping the motorcycle’s handlebars.
Only the faint strength in his muscles reminded him vaguely that he too, was a Transcendent.
Albeit an E-level one with no Combat Ability, Talent Sequence 15: Scholar.
The speeding motorcycle carried Viko’s figure, following the figure ahead at a speed nearly invisible to the meat eyes, and dove into the battlefield.
It was only at this moment that Viko understood why ’Suote’ told him to ’follow the bike’.
Because indeed, this motorcycle could control itself.
An extremely advanced auto-pilot program was commandeering the motorcycle, navigating forward while continuously helping Viko dodge potential attacks alongside him.
Even though the motorcycle appeared expensive, the intelligence level of the auto-pilot program still amazed Viko.
Such high speed, such swift reactions.
Just relying on the sensors on the vehicle to achieve this, either required a terrifying computational power or an exceptionally outstanding and streamlined algorithm.
Unfortunately, he had no time to marvel at the power of the motorcycle.
Because at this moment they had already entered the inner city gate tunnel, speeding towards the direction of the city gates.
Here, those Mechas that squeezed through the gate slits had already gathered, blocking in front of ’Suote’.
This time Viko made no motion to remind him, as the Exoskeleton Armor soldiers around him had evidently noticed, and were now surging towards him densely.
The intense barrage made his heart nearly stop beating.
The racing motorcycle shook wildly, dodging enemies encircling from all sides.
If he hadn’t held tight to the handlebars, he would have already been thrown off the bike.
Boom, boom, boom—
Once again, the thunderous explosions rang out from the sky, and Viko looked up to see that the Mechas trying to block the figure in front, had now completely exploded into fireworks in the sky.
Consequently, even the soldiers in front had been cleared out, leaving behind only a field shimmering with sparks and debris.
And there, the figure in the blood-stained jacket was passing through flames and sparks, standing between the agape inner city gate, lifting his head and gazing at those Mechas, dozens of meters tall, squeezing in from the outer city, and at the dense radiant light rapidly approaching behind the Mechas.
The light reflected off the snowy plains, turning the world outside into a desolate expanse of white.
