He Ao sat in the café on the first floor, taking a brief nap with his eyes closed.
It was now past one in the morning, and the power of the Onlooker was nearly completely in his grasp.
Fortunately, this café operated twenty-four hours a day, so He Ao did not have to worry about being chased out by the staff.
After all, this was Alisel, where night marked the beginning of the day.
Just as He Ao thought he would have to wait until three or four in the morning, a lady dressed in a gray-brown jacket and tight jeans entered the café. She looked around, then finally set her gaze on He Ao.
She then carried her black luxury handbag and sat opposite He Ao.
"Mr. Roy, where shall we go next?"
She found a piece of chewing gum and began to chew.
Her skin was smooth and fair, showing none of the haggardness and dullness one might expect from staying up late. Even under the bright lights of the café, she looked stunning and captivating.
"Miss Qi Rui?" He Ao glanced at her and slowly rose to his feet, "Let’s find a suitable place first."
"You decide the place, but just to be clear, my rule is that the price for a call cannot be lower than eight hundred, and if you want to book me for the whole night, that’s extra."
Qi Rui chewed her gum, nonchalantly standing up.
"Okay."
He Ao nodded with a smile.
Then he led Qi Rui out of the building, heading towards a secluded district.
Qi Rui played with her phone along the way, and after a good distance, she complained, "Aren’t we there yet?"
"We are."
He Ao pointed to a deserted alley ahead and walked in.
"So you’re into this kind of thing, huh."
Qi Rui followed He Ao into the alley.
The two stopped in the center of the alley.
There were no surveillance cameras here.
Qi Rui looked around and then pulled several tissues from her bag. After hesitating for a moment, she placed her handbag on the ground on a bed of tissues, speaking with a hint of disdain, "Let’s start."
"Hmm," He Ao nodded slightly, watching as Qi Rui began to take off her jacket, "Why did you want to kill me?"
"What did you say?"
Qi Rui stiffened, then put her jacket back on and moved towards her handbag, "Freak, I’m not playing this game with you."
He Ao immediately grabbed her hand as it reached for the handbag and pinned her against the wall with a bang, "Hint, the Witch Church, Sacrifice, Ritual."
"What do you know?"
This time Qi Rui stopped struggling and looked coldly at He Ao.
He had guessed right.
He Ao hadn’t been completely certain that Qi Rui was from the Witch Church, but when uncertain, a bluff often led to surprises.
"Why do you want to kill me?"
He Ao asked calmly, a tremendous oppressive force enveloping Qi Rui.
Roy had never been involved with the Witch Church, so logically he shouldn’t have been targeted by their members.
"You don’t need to know."
Pressed by this force, Qi Rui’s movements faltered, her body becoming as flexible as a snake; under He Ao’s control, she began to twist in the constrained space.
And with her twisting, He Ao’s body began to react. A consciousness filled with seduction and indulgence tried to invade his mind.
So that’s it, the dance was the ritual.
He Ao’s mind flashed with a moment of enlightenment.
The method to communicate with the Witch of Desire was to dance, and the specific dance was the ritual itself.
Through those fragmented memories and the current situation, He Ao had roughly understood Qi Rui’s modus operandi.
She first tempted Roy to open a private room, then communicated with the witch through dance in the room, during which Roy felt his body gradually weaken, probably because something akin to his soul or spirit had been taken by Qi Rui through the ritual, with an interrogation phase possibly in between.
However, she did not let Roy die right there in the dance hall but left him with a bit of spirit to make it home.
That’s why, when He Ao woke up, he experienced intense dizziness, and Roy’s physical strength was left at 5.
Of course, while his mind was thinking, He Ao’s hands did not stop moving. He performed a shoulder throw, slamming Qi Rui face-down on the ground, then clamped her hands with one hand and with both knees, pinning down her back and legs, he securely immobilized her, suppressing all her movements.
"Speak, what is your purpose?"
He Ao pressed her hands to the ground, then pulled out a silver dagger from inside his overcoat and inserted it beside her cheek, with the sharp blade snug against her fair skin,
"Have you ever heard of a punishment called death by a thousand cuts? It’s where you take a small knife and cut off the flesh of the criminal piece by piece. During the process, the criminal cannot die, and has to watch as their flesh is stripped away, leaving only the pale bones. Usually, they begin by digging out the flesh on the chest, slicing the muscle off, and then cut the limbs, with each and every slice. Hmm,"
He Ao paused for a moment, staring at Qi Rui’s cheek, "Your face is so pretty, we can start with the face too."
Qi Rui was utterly bewildered, although He Ao’s tone was calm, as if stating a matter of fact, she could feel an oppressive madness in his tone, it seemed like he really would do it.
How could there be someone so terrifying?
Who exactly is the cultist?
"I’ll tell you, I’ll tell you," she quickly cried out, "I only heard the Church’s order to interrogate you about your father, and if nothing came out, to kill you. I don’t know anything else, please spare me, murder is against the law."
"Really, no further information? Does the Witch Church have any other schemes?"
He Ao pulled up the dagger, sliding the icy blade back and forth across Qi Rui’s fair cheek, as if searching for the right place to start cutting.
"I don’t know anymore, I truly don’t know anymore," Qi Rui said, scared to the point of tears rolling in her eyes, "I’m just a small fry."
"Hmm, this spot is not bad."
He Ao’s blade lingered near Qi Rui’s eye socket, "You can still use your eye when there’s only one left, right?"
"I really don’t know anything else, I beg you, please let me go,"
Qi Rui cried out desperately.
"How do you contact them?"
He Ao stopped his motion, asking softly.
"Gatherings," Qi Ke said, trembling, "The Church holds gatherings every once in a while, and they announce the time and place for the next gathering."
"When is the next gathering?"
He Ao asked.
"Tomorrow, no," Qi Rui seemed to realize it was already past midnight and quickly corrected herself, "Today, tonight, on the top floor of the Nord Building."
She pleaded softly, "I’ve told you everything I know, please let me go, murder is against the law."
"Of course," He Ao put away the dagger, slowly stood up, and revealed a warm smile, "I am a law-abiding good person, though you may need to make your way to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and turn yourself in."
Qi Rui could hardly believe that He Ao had actually let her go. She quickly got up and rushed to her little purse, pulled out a pink, dainty handgun, and aimed it at He Ao, "Turn myself in my ass, go to hell, bastard!"
Bang——
He Ao put down the gun.
Drops of fresh blood seeped from the center of Qi Rui’s forehead, her eyes wide with disbelief as she looked at He Ao, then slowly fell backward.
Murder, of course, is against the law, but self-defense does not count.
He Ao calmly walked over to Qi Rui, took out eight one-hundred-dollar bills from his wallet, and scattered them over her body.
Then he lit a cigarette, calmly watching ahead, and said softly,
"Come out."
