Chapter 478: Chapter 478: The Origin of the Bullet, Suspect, End of the Fight

"The eastern part of the city, Elsondero, was filled with fierce gunfire and explosions on a certain farm.

Agents from the Homeland Security Department lined up on both sides of the corridor outside the bedroom at the corner of the villa in the middle of the farm, clearing a path for Luo An. Winslow and Chenier were about to take over their mission target, Tahveli, from Luo An’s hands.

Bang!

Because it was masked by other gunshots outside, the sudden shot did not draw everyone’s attention, except for Mona and Reesi who were standing at the back. Their faces turned pale as they screamed:

"Luo An! Be careful!"

As they screamed, Luo An seemed to suddenly lose strength in his body, pitching forward along with Tahveli, right in front of Winslow and Chenier.

"Fu-k!"

"Someone’s ambushed us!"

"The enemy is on the right!"

In the instant that Luo An fell, amidst the shouts of Mona and Reesi, everyone realized what happened, and their expressions changed drastically.

Michelle hurriedly lunged to Luo An’s side, ready to use her body to shield Luo An from any more bullets that might come his way, while Winslow and Chenier instinctively raised their weapons, looking in the direction the bullet had come from to locate the enemy and prepare to retaliate.

Agents from the Homeland Security Department, including Reesi and Chenier, all immediately took up their weapons and turned to find the enemy.

But the agents searching for the enemy came up empty, as the direction from which the bullet had come was a small battlefield not far from the villa, where several drug dealers were being cleared. That place was currently enveloped in the orange flames of gun muzzles, leaving no one to know where that bullet had originated from.

Unlike the others, after Luo An fell, Mona quickly moved to his side to check on him, her face filled with panic and concern.

"I’m fine."

Luo An looked up at a bullet hole in the wall beside him, his eyes slightly narrowed. The shooter’s target wasn’t him but the head of Tahveli he had caught.

If it wasn’t for that familiar sense of danger prompting Luo An to lunge forward, if Tahveli’s head had been hit by the bullet, today’s operation would have been in vain.

"I’m fine!"

Luo An got up from the ground, grinned at the people around him, and repeated. Then he handed Tahveli over to Winslow and Chenier, and gave them a glance. The two, having realized what was happening, nodded seriously and immediately sheltered Tahveli tightly behind them.

Seeing the actions of Luo An and the others, all the agents present slightly changed their expressions, realizing something. Several agents from the Homeland Security Department began exchanging glances.

With an imperceptible look, Luo An gently pinched Mona’s arm to reassure her, and then picked up his weapon and quickly moved toward the battlefield outside the villa, shouting at the same time:

"Reesi! Come help me!"

"Understood!"

Reesi, instantly grasping Luo An’s intent, immediately picked up her weapon and quickly followed. Mona and Michelle, without commands from Luo An, looked at each other before moving immediately beside Chenier and Winslow, similarly sheltering Tahveli behind them.

In the hallway, the Special Investigation Team providing cover for Tahveli and several agents from the Homeland Security Department instantly became two clearly distinct groups, and the air in the area fell into an eerie silence.

Not far from the villa, 3 SWAT team members and 3 Homeland Security agents were jointly besieging 5 drug dealers.

It wasn’t that these 5 drug dealers had superior marksmanship skills, but rather they had a collapsed ammunition depot directly behind them.

Bang bang bang bang—

With full firepower, the continuous barrage of bullets kept the 3 SWAT team members on the left side of the formation from raising their heads.

Suddenly the gunfire eased slightly, and just as the three members were about to look up to retaliate, they saw a man with a face full of horizontal flesh in the middle of the drug dealers’ camp, suddenly shouldering a rocket launcher that had just been unearthed, aiming at them.

The 3 SWAT team members’ faces changed drastically as they hurriedly moved to other locations to hide. The drug dealer with the face full of horizontal flesh laughed with a big grin, pretending to pull the trigger:""

"Hahaha—go to hell..."

At the same time, Luo An arrived here with Reesi from the other side. Seeing the scene unfold, Luo An didn’t hesitate and immediately raised his weapon and fired two bullets at the head of the man with a broad, fleshy face.

Bang! Bang!

Two gunshots rang out, and the man’s head burst into a big spray of blood. His body toppled forward but at that moment he had just pressed the rocket launcher’s fire button. The rocket flew in the direction of his fall, hitting directly into the drug traffickers’ position.

"Fu-k!"

"Shit!"

The other four traffickers, seeing this scene, all turned pale as ghosts, not bothering about the nearby SWAT team of four, and hurriedly stood up to jump out of their position.

Boom—

The next second, a burst of dust and debris scattered as the rocket exploded vigorously within the position, filling the area with the remains of the broad-faced trafficker.

Out of the remaining four traffickers, two were blown away like broken dolls, permanently falling into slumber, while one was turned into a sieve by Reesi and the Homeland Security Department agents. The last trafficker’s legs were blown away and he didn’t die immediately, his indescribable screams of agony echoed non-stop in this small area.

The three SWAT team members who had walked the line between life and death got up from the ground, walked over to Luo An, and extended their hands to shake his, expressing their serious and grateful thanks.

Luo An smiled and shook hands with the three, exchanged a few words, then turned to look at the three agents from the Homeland Security Department.

"Thank you, Group Leader Greenwood."

The three agents also shook hands with Luo An to express their thanks. Luo An briefly asked for their names, which were Weasley, Wilder, and Thomas.

"No need to thank me."

After the handshake, the group quickly departed. Luo An watched their retreating figures, his eyes narrowing slightly.

He glanced at the spot where Agent Wilder had been standing and realized it was separate from the positions of the other five agents, in a blind spot of their collective field of view, and just happened to have a clear view of the interior of the villa where Luo An was shot before.

"What next?"

Reesi also noticed the problem with Agent Wilder’s position, but she couldn’t find any evidence and didn’t understand why he would do that.

Winslow had checked the bullet in the villa a moment ago and told Reesi that it came from the common weapons of the traffickers at the scene, which meant that the incident could only be one of two possibilities:

Either it was a stray bullet, or the shooter picked up a weapon from the traffickers here and fired a shot.

Given the shooter’s level of caution, it was most likely that after firing, they quickly wiped off their fingerprints, or even destroyed the gun entirely.

Hearing Reesi’s question, Luo An smiled, then whispered a few words into Reesi’s ear. She paused for a few seconds, then nodded firmly.

During the handshake and conversation, Luo An had been using his "Emotional Perception" inside his mind—the emotions from the other five toward Luo An were gratitude, shock, and others.

Only Agent Wilder from the Homeland Security Department had almost no feeling of gratitude when shaking hands with Luo An, but instead, there were strong feelings of astonishment, anger, resentment, and fear.

After finishing the briefing, Reesi turned and hurried back towards the villa, while Luo An watched the backs of the Homeland Security Department agents, his eyes narrowing as he recalled all the clues he knew, slowly integrating and analyzing them.

Time ticked away second by second. The sounds of battle on the farm ceased just before the sun rose.

This joint operation between the Special Investigation Team, Homeland Security Department, and the SWAT team was very successful. They destroyed the Naloya Drug Trafficking Group’s core base, captured the head Tahveli of the Naloya Drug Trafficking Group, seized nearly a ton of various drugs, and uncovered the raw materials and facilities for drug manufacturing.

Suddenly, the media across California began frantically reporting the operation, with a plethora of photos taken, and the FBI Los Angeles Branch held a press conference for several hours.

Luo An represented the Special Investigation Team, briefly attending the first half-hour of the press conference, answering a few questions before leaving the rest of the time to Group Leader Arnold from Homeland Security Department.

Group Leader Arnold had already heard from his subordinates about the incident in the villa and was prepared to discuss the matter with Luo An, but was intercepted by Horst from the Monitoring Department.

Luo An didn’t care about Group Leader Arnold’s situation; he returned to the Special Investigation Team, not immediately starting the interrogation of Tahveli but instead calling Winslow, Chenier, and Mona into the team leader’s office.
