Chapter 475: The Identity of the Mastermind Behind the Order to Kill the Lindens
Chapter 475: Chapter 475: The Identity of the Mastermind Behind the Order to Kill the Lindens
12:00 noon, Special Investigation Team, Office Area.
Upon hearing Mona say that she might have found the mastermind behind this case, a group of agents immediately gathered around her.
"It’s like this."
Mona showed everyone the screen of her computer and pointed to several mobile phones that Luo An and others had brought back from the villa, explaining:
"I checked the call history of Sean Hoffman before he died and found a man named Martin. They both attended the same ’Anonymous Alcoholics Anonymous.’"
Mona tapped on her keyboard, bringing up the photo and identity information of "Martin" onto the desktop of her computer, continuing:
"According to the FBI’s internal database, this Martin belongs to the Naloya Drug Trafficking Group at the Southern Border of California.
He is one of the subordinates of the boss of the drug trafficking group, Tahveli."
Luo An frowned slightly, while Reesi’s eyes lit up, asking:
"Are you saying that the person who ordered the murder of the former team leader of the Lindens was the boss of the drug trafficking group, Tahveli?"
"Very likely."
Mona nodded her head, explaining:
"The assassin, Ernest, whom Luo An had caught before, said during interrogation that the murder order had a special request:
The son of the former team leader Lynn Osborne had to be hung upside down and gutted open.
I checked the history of the drug lord Tahveli, a few years ago, his eldest son, due to the presence of an undercover, resulting in the son’s transaction failure and arrest.
Tahveli’s grandson and daughter-in-law, that is, the big son’s child and wife, failed to evacuate in time, and were captured by the opposing forces, which were the other party of the transaction. They were hung up and gutted to death on a high wall in some city.
And the orchestrator of that operation..."
Mona tapped quickly on the keyboard, and a familiar face appeared on the computer screen:
"It was the former team leader, Linden Osborne."
"Fu-k!"
"Damn it!"
After listening to Mona’s explanation, the agents suddenly realized, understanding the connection throughout the event:
Due to the appearance of an undercover, leading to his son’s arrest, and his grandson and daughter-in-law’s murder.
For revenge, Tahveli had someone kill the undercover dispatcher and the orchestrator of the case, Linden Osborne’s family.
"But... something doesn’t seem quite right."
Winslow pondered for a moment and said:
"Under normal circumstances, drug trafficking group leaders like Tahveli would generally let their subordinates, like Martin himself, directly commit the murder, rather than going to find a middleman to issue a murder order.
The possibility of encountering accidents or unforeseen circumstances with issuing murder orders is just too high."
"You’re right."
Beside him, Chenier nodded and added:
"Also, how did Tahveli, the head of this criminal organization, find out that the orchestrator of that operation was the former team leader Linden Osborne?"
Faced with Chenier’s question, Reesi crossed her arms over her chest and scoffed:
"There are no walls in the world that don’t leak.
As long as Tahveli offers enough money, someone will definitely tell him who the orchestrator of that operation was.
It could very well be some agent who was involved in that operation and is short on cash now."
Reesi had seen too many FBI agents selling various types of information for money every year.
"But what Winslow said also makes a lot of sense."
Michelle pointed to the computer in front of her and said:
"The FBI’s internal database shows that in cases where gang members and criminal organizations seek revenge, ninety percent of the time it’s the gang members themselves or trusted subordinates who take action personally."
"It’s quite strange to use a middleman to order a hit on someone like Martin."
Reesi frowned slightly and subconsciously turned her head to her side:
"Mona, where... where are you?"
Reesi was taken aback. She had thought that Luo An had been by her side all along, watching them discuss this case, but when she turned around, she found that he was gone.
"Luo An and Horst from the Monitoring Department left together just now."
Chenier, who was standing at the back, casually replied regarding Luo An’s whereabouts and then passed a croissant to Mona before resuming the discussion of the case.
Mona took a bite of the food in her hand, a glint flashing in her eyes. Women’s intuition told her that Luo An might be hiding something from her.
In this building, the possibility of a high-level insider existed. To be cautious, Luo An indeed hadn’t informed the other agents; currently, only four people knew about this:
Special Investigation Team Leader Luo An Greenwood, the Chief of the FBI Los Angeles Branch Nasim, team manager Potante Byrne, and Horst from the Monitoring Department.
Having heard the information Mona found, several ideas and speculations flashed through Luo An’s mind. So, while Reesi and the others discussed the mastermind behind the killing of the Linden family, Luo An had already left with Horst to the office of Chief Nasim.
"Good afternoon, Chief."
After knocking and being allowed to enter the office, Luo An briefly outlined the current situation and asked directly:
"Chief, does our FBI Los Angeles Branch currently have an action plan against the leader of the Luo Ya Drug Trafficking Group, namely Tahveli?
Or rather, is there an undercover agent we have sent among Tahveli’s ranks?"
Previously, Reesi suspected that Tahveli found out the identity of the initial operation’s leader, Linden Osborne, by bribing lower-level agents.
But Luo An, who knew a bit more about the matter, suspected that Tahveli probably learned this from the insider.
Upon hearing this, Chief Nasim’s expression changed subtly. He too had thought of this, and thus he spoke gravely:
"The Homeland Security Department does indeed have an operation targeted at the Naloya Drug Trafficking Group, which has been running for over a year."
Chief Nasim wasn’t particularly familiar with the specific details of this Homeland Security operation. After all, as the Chief, he focused more on issues like the overall development of the branch.
After picking up the desk phone to give a brief explanation, Chief Nasim hung up and instructed Horst from the Monitoring Department to secretly bring related documents of that operation from the Homeland Security to this location.
"Understood, Chief."
Horst nodded solemnly and turned to leave the office. Chief Nasim then leaned back in his chair, closed his eyes, and pondered for a moment before asking:
"Luo An, do you have any guesses about the identity of this insider?"
"Sorry, Chief, not yet."
Luo An shook his head. He was just an ordinary Special Investigation Team leader and wasn’t very familiar with the high-level affairs.
However, since the Chief had asked, Luo An couldn’t leave the question unanswered. After pondering for a short while, he said:
"Chief, I believe that the death of former team manager Linden Osborne and his family might be a ’killing two birds with one stone’ strategy by the insider."
Chief Nasim, with his eyes still closed, directly asked:
"What do you mean?"
Luo An cleared his throat and explained:
"I’ve been thinking, the insider keeps leaking the identities of undercover agents to those crime bosses. What is the purpose?
After a long deliberation, the only reasonable explanation is money.
Having an undercover agent among their operations, those crime bosses would definitely not hesitate to spend a lot of money to buy this information from the insider."
Chief Nasim tilted his head up to indicate that Luo An should continue, so Luo An went on to say:
"This insider has been concealing their identity for so many years and must be a very cautious person.
These crime bosses ended up dying from various accidents, and the insider still knows the identities of those undercover agents.
Therefore, we can determine that either the insider holds a very high position; or the insider’s position is not high, but they hold a critical job; or this insider has other accomplices, and the entire thing is a collaborative effort by several people."
Hearing this, Chief Nasim raised an eyebrow, slowly opened his eyes to look at Luo An, and asked:
"You just said that this case might be a ’killing two birds with one stone’ plan by the insider, can you explain that further?"
Just as Luo An was about to speak, Horst from the Monitoring Department suddenly returned to the office with a sealed document envelope, knocking on the door to enter.
