Chapter 463: Chapter 464: Inventory of All Gains, Tax Issues, New Case

On Sunday morning, Mona is wearing Luo An’s white shirt on her upper body, her long, white legs bare beneath, and wearing fluffy slippers. With a smile on her face, she hums a tune while making breakfast.

Luo An is sitting at the dining table, yawning as he taps on the laptop in front of him.

Mona places the prepared breakfast of sandwiches, fried eggs, and milk on the dining table, sits opposite Luo An, and asks while eating:

"What are you doing?"

Accepting the breakfast, Luo An softly thanks her, then answers:

"I am calculating and organizing my current assets. It’s almost tax time."

Talking about taxes makes Luo An frown slightly, and he reaches up to rub his temples.

On the distant Eastern internet, someone listed several suicidal actions in the world:

Smuggling in the East, evading federal taxes, forbidding smuggling in Mexico, taking hostages in Bear Country.

For federal taxpayers, April 15th is an important date. They need to submit their personal income tax returns and pay corresponding taxes before this day, which include wages tax, self-employment tax, capital gains tax, and a bunch of other types.

It is now officially 2006, and Luo An needs to calculate his earnings from the last year.

In terms of real estate, Luo An currently owns a small apartment in New York, a Chevrolet sedan, a big villa in Boston, and an orange sports car, the Dodge Hellcat.

For liquid assets, Luo An has purchased stocks in Apple Company, Microsoft, and Amazon Company, initially for about 5 million US Dollars, currently valued at nearly 9 million US Dollars.

During his time in Unit 5, and leading the Special Investigation Team, Luo An has amassed almost 27 million US Dollars in wages, bonuses, and extra earnings from cracking cases.

From Mona’s father’s case, Luo An managed to secure nearly 200 million Euros from a casino and a mafia boss, which is currently in overseas accounts.

Besides these obvious earnings, from a previous bank robbery, Luo An also obtained 300 million US Dollars on a flash drive, currently parked in some accounts in the Cayman Islands.

Looking at the 200 million Euros won from gambling recorded on his computer, and recalling the 300 million US Dollars from the chip not noted on the computer, Luo An frowns slightly, murmuring to himself:

"Indeed, making money through other channels is quicker; earning money by solving cases is truly too slow."

"..."

Hearing this, Mona almost chokes on her sandwich while sitting across him, her eye twitching.

Mona currently has 40 million Euros in an overseas account, 10 million US Dollars given by Javari, and nearly 6 million US Dollars from FBI wages, bonuses, and extra earnings from cracking cases.

Before meeting Luo An, Mona had never imagined her savings could exceed five digits; for a long time, she felt the numbers in her account were unreal.

It was only when she aggressively engaged Luo An, biting his lips without letting go, that Mona knew it was not a dream.

Mona is not a greedy person. She doesn’t know exactly how much money Luo An has made, nor is she interested in digging too deep, as it definitely is more than hers.

But hearing Luo An, who is wealthier and earns money at a speed several times more absurd than anyone she knows, still complain about his earning speed, Mona is utterly dumbfounded and can’t hold back anymore.

Quickly finishing her portion of the sandwich, Mona grabs Luo An’s piece and takes a bite.

Just as Luo An is about to have breakfast, he pauses, puzzled:

"What do you mean?"

"Hmph."

Mona hums coldly without speaking. She doesn’t know the terms "acting" and "Versailles," but Luo An’s words annoyed her, so Mona unilaterally decides that Luo An won’t have breakfast today.

Ignoring Mona, Luo An quickly eats the fried eggs and drinks a cup of milk, then begins to carefully ponder his tax issues.

Evading taxes is not a good choice, Luo An discards this option first, but it really pains him to hand over a large chunk of the money he painstakingly earned.

Fortunately, among that group of wealthy federal folks, there’s a term called "legal tax avoidance."

So Luo An finished breakfast without idle chatter, selectively ignoring Mona who tried to seduce him with her long legs, and took out his phone to call Rekasha O’Dell and John Rodriguez for some reliable contact numbers of accounting firms.

In the following week, the Special Investigation Team lived a nine-to-five life every day.

It seemed busy, but was actually very relaxed because there were no new cases, and no urgent tasks from above, therefore Luo An led the agents to handle the follow-up of cases leisurely, without being late or leaving early, just loafing around and slacking off.

Soon, it was Saturday again, and a well-known local accounting firm in Los Angeles released a tax payment scheme for Luo An’s apparent assets.

In the scheme, the amount of tax Luo An needed to pay was pushed to a level that even Luo An himself felt embarrassed to look at.

Regarding this, in the accounting firm, one of the accountants who specifically handled Luo An’s case, a middle-aged white man with some balding to the left, said with a smile:

"Rest assured, Mr. Greenwood, this tax avoidance scheme is absolutely compliant with federal laws.

Our accounting firm always abides by the law and never does anything illegal."

The portly middle-aged white man to the right, also smiling, quietly assured Luo An, stating that many wealthy people in the federal government legally avoid even higher amounts of taxes every year, and compared to those people, Luo An was nothing.

"OK." f .r e\ewebnov(e)(l).c om

Looking at the two shameless and ruthless guys before him, Luo An’s mouth curled up in a satisfied smile, and he reached out to shake hands with them:

"Thank you."

"It’s what we should do."

The two middle-aged white men shook hands with Luo An and laughed together.

Driving away from the street, watching in the rear mirror as several familiar celebrities entered the building, Luo An slightly curved his lips and thought to himself that indeed, in a capitalist country like this, wealthy people have their haven, and the poor their hell.

After handling the tax matters, a weight was lifted off Luo An’s heart.

That night, inside the villa, candlelight dinner, music and wine, after kissing Mona for a moment, Luo An suddenly pushed her against the glass.

Mona’s eyes widened instantly, struggling:

"Luo An, let’s go to the bed!"

"It’s okay, trust me."

Luo An bit Mona’s ear and took out a remote control, pressing it and chuckled:

"I just found out last night, this is a one-way glass that can be controlled remotely..."

"..."

———

Monday, the sun shone brightly in Los Angeles, the mood of the agents in the Special Investigation Team was partly cloudy turning clear.

On one hand, a new case arrived, and on the other hand, the victim of this case was somewhat special.

Chenier had returned to the team today, Luo An waved his hand, signaling her to distribute the documents in the folder to everyone, then Luo An said seriously:

"Ladies and gentlemen, the victim in today’s case is named Paul Osborne, 16 years old. He disappeared last night, and this morning someone called the police after finding his body.

Paul’s father, named Linden Osborne, was the former team supervisor of our FBI Los Angeles Branch, and he retired less than a year ago.

We need to carefully investigate this case to determine whether the target of the murderer was Paul Osborne, or his father, Linden Osborne."

"Oh, sh*t!"

All agents listened attentively to Luo An, but upon seeing the photos in the folder, they couldn’t help but show unpleasant expressions, Reesi even cursed outright.

In the photo, 16-year-old Paul Osborne looked like an animal waiting to be slaughtered, his head down and legs tied up high, with a long wound from his abdomen to his chin, the young boy’s heart laid bare amidst chaos...
