Legend of Dragon Son-in-law
Chapter 1440: 1440: Fatal

Chapter 1440: Chapter 1440: Fatal

“Bead, Eagle was captured by a monk and a Taoist.”

In the darkness, someone took out a phone and called Isabella Warm to report the situation.

When it comes to risky matters, Isabella naturally wouldn’t come in person.

As a Vein Holder, there was no need for her to put herself in danger.

Now it seemed that her decision was a wise one. The person who gave out the pill clearly set a trap for her.

This world is simple; it’s the human heart that’s complex.

“Immediately investigate their identities and intercept them midway to rescue Eagle!” Isabella’s cold voice came through the phone, commanding in an indisputable tone: “Ensure Eagle’s safety.”

Though the Seven Veins had fallen apart, Pendleton seemed intent on uniting them recently.

Aside from the recalcitrant Emperor Vein, which was gambling against Pendleton,

the remaining factions were mostly in decline.

The Losers, Seal, Eagle, and Night Veins had dwindling numbers.

The Night Vein, being a group of assassins, was said to have only one Vein Holder remaining, and Eagle was similarly alone.

The Losers had been dismantled by the Bead Pulse, with their Vein Holder reduced to an outlaw afraid to show their face.

The Seal Vein, due to internal conflict, had been on the verge of annihilation for centuries now.

The only somewhat active faction, Micah Will, had long declared loyalty to Pendleton.

But in truth, they were merely observing the situation.

On one hand, Micah Will maintained contact with the Bead Pulse, while on the other, they worked for Pendleton.

Those trying to please both sides often end up offending everyone.

Isabella had already been considering eliminating Micah Will, fostering loyal members under her control, and establishing a new Micah Will faction.

Right now, as a member of the Seven Veins and the last inheritor and Vein Holder of the Eagle Vein, Eagle must not come to harm.

The Seven Veins each had their own secrets.

The Vein Holders’ weapons were merely keys, but the correct use of these keys was known only to the Vein Holders.

This was why Isabella had not taken “Flying Sky” from Eagle’s hand.

Back then, the Seven Veins had done this to create mutual restraint and self-preservation.

Treasure could be taken, but without the Vein Holder, the key would lose its function.

Isabella had simply not foreseen that “Flying Sky” would end up in the hands of the Young Family.

“Understood! But… Solaris Grove seems to have died.” The Bead Pulse member on the call glanced at the square, uncertain: “The person in the Taoist robes stabbed him more than a dozen times. It looks like the North Sea man has stopped breathing.”

“Rescue him first, I’ll handle the rest…”

BANG!

Before Isabella could finish speaking, the Bead Pulse member on the phone collapsed and passed out instantly.

“Hello.”

When a voice she was all too familiar with came through the line, Isabella’s body trembled.

Silent tears began falling.

You are really in Swimming City, I can feel it.

But she didn’t say this.

She let the tears silently fall to the ground.

“I trust you haven’t betrayed me.” Julius Reed picked up the phone and spoke in a calm tone: “No matter who says what to me, no matter what ironclad evidence they offer, I believe you. But, if you indeed betray me, I will personally kill you.”

Silence.

Silence lingered on the other end of the phone.

It had been so many years since she had last heard his voice.

“Tell me, you didn’t betray me.”

Julius Reed’s voice was cold.

He knew someone was listening on the other end of the line.

Isabella’s eyes turned bloodshot, her hands clenching the phone tightly, her body trembling uncontrollably.

Tears blurred her vision, blurred her rationality.

“I see.” Julius Reed seemed to recall something, suddenly speaking: “Actually, the Blue Sea Green Vine—I let you steal it on purpose. Four people, there was no way to divide it.”

With that, he crushed the phone.

On the other end.

The always cold and wise Isabella let out a wailing cry.

Some people, some things, are destined to remain unforgettable.

“What happened?”

At the City Lord’s Mansion, Ian Jorden rushed in and saw Isabella sobbing on the desk. Shocked, he asked, “The Pendleton Alliance Hierarch isn’t dead?”

Isabella shook her head, her body trembling slightly.

“Then what is it? Stop crying for now; let’s solve the issue!” Ian Jorden was at a loss, pacing back and forth!

From the time of Demarco Mount, he had known Isabella.

After his feigned death back then, Ian had always obeyed Isabella’s commands, lurking in Swimming City and waiting for the right opportunity.

“He…” Isabella raised her head, her tear-streaked face now beyond recognition.

Yet, even at a glance, her beauty was still breathtaking.

Her red, weeping eyes, and her fair cheeks tinged with a faint blush, coupled with her hoarse voice, seemed to carry a sorrowful charm: “He said, if I betrayed him, he would personally kill me.”

“This…” Ian Jorden shook his head with a bitter smile: “Figures.”

“No matter how painful the choices back then were, I must continue on this path and achieve my goal!” Isabella’s eyes flashed with resolve: “No one can stop me!”

No one knew that man better than his closest bodyguard and maid.

To kill personally…

Perhaps it was love, or perhaps it was care to the point of obsession, that one would make such a statement.

“So what do we do now…” Ian was at a loss for words.

He was a man and didn’t understand the subtleties of a woman’s heart.

“Take Pendleton! I will turn Pendleton into an organization completely under my control! I will collect all seven keys and uncover the book hidden at Pendleton’s headquarters!” Isabella’s voice was cold as water.

“If only you had explained things clearly to Grace River back then, today’s situation wouldn’t have unfolded like this.” Ian sat back into his chair and poured himself a cup of tea: “The quarrels between women, at times, can be far more terrifying than men’s deadly battles.”

“I want to prove to everyone! No matter in what aspect, Isabella Warm can surpass Grace River! I will make Grace River understand that even if Isabella Warm dies, she will still never win that man’s love!”

Isabella clenched her fists tightly, her strikingly beautiful face flickering with a flash of determination.

“Pfft!”

Ian Jorden spat out the tea in his mouth: “You’re crazy?”

“If my death would allow me to occupy a place in his heart, I would not hesitate to make that choice.” Isabella’s face was emotionless.

“Bead! You must live! If you die, what about me? Have you thought about me? I don’t want to die dishonored! Let alone be reduced to bones and ashes by the Holy Lord after death!”

BANG!

Ian slammed his teacup back onto the table, his voice tinged with bitterness: “I haven’t even met my daughter yet!”

“I was joking.” Isabella smiled faintly, took a deep breath, and continued: “Eagle was captured. We must save him.”

At this moment, the crying girl from before seemed like an entirely different person.

“Love makes women terrifying.” Ian shook his head and turned away.

He left Isabella alone in the room to ponder.

“Did I make the wrong choice…” She let out a bitter laugh, pulling out a necklace from her chest.

The pendant on the chain was a jade-carved figure.

“Stop right there!”

On an empty street in Swimming City, a shadowy figure suddenly appeared, blocking the path of a monk and a Taoist.

“Good dogs don’t block the road, my friend.” The Seven Star Arhat raised an eyebrow, sizing up the man in black before him.

The newcomer had ill intentions.

“I’m the Prince Consort of the North Sea.” Julius Reed turned around, speaking with faint indifference. “You killed my North Sea General; how do you plead?”

“North Sea Prince Consort? Didn’t you die?” The Seven Star Arhat warily asked: “Are you a ghost?”

“Indeed! In life I belonged to the North Sea, in death I am its ghost!” Julius Reed extended his hand, pointing it at the monk and Taoist: “Care to go down and play? No charge, just your lives.”
