Chapter 1437: Chapter 1437 Note
“Ghost Market?”
Isabella Warm waved her hand, and the screen slid aside.
Earlier, when Ian Jorden and others were having their secret discussion, she had been sitting behind the screen.
But no one noticed.
“That’s right, it’s indeed the Ghost Market.”
With the screen removed, Isabella Warm and Eagle faced each other.
Both of them were Vein Holders. Although their status was equal, it was apparent to anyone observant that Eagle was a step below.
Isabella sat, Eagle stood.
She did not immediately reach out to take the pill but instead observed it carefully.
A murky green color.
Nothing unusual could be discerned.
But Eagle held it with bare hands, without any protective measures.
At the very least, it proved that the pill was not toxic to the skin upon contact.
“I tasked you with infiltrating the Young Family to uncover the mysterious figure’s identity. So why did you end up at the Ghost Market, and how did you acquire this pill?”
Isabella Warm would never take the pill before clarifying the situation.
What if it was poisonous?
Her enemies far outnumbered her allies.
“The Young Family’s defenses are impenetrable. After infiltrating, I couldn’t even get close. Then I remembered hearing rumors that Gabriel Young and the mysterious figure had met at the Ghost Market, so I went to investigate. Unexpectedly, I encountered a man who handed me this pill without saying a word and instructed me to deliver it directly to you.”
Eagle was no fool.
Anyone skilled enough to be a covert operative wouldn’t act like one.
On his return, he’d already crafted an airtight explanation for himself.
“Are you serious?”
Isabella Warm was half-convinced.
“Absolutely!” Eagle was slightly agitated. “That man was extraordinarily capable, and he took my sword directly.”
At those words, Isabella Warm finally noticed that the ‘Flying Sky’ sword at Eagle’s waist had disappeared without a trace.
“How could you be so careless? That’s the Eagle Vein’s token!”
Isabella Warm’s expression darkened.
Had she known, she might have taken the ‘Flying Sky’ sword for herself!
Worthless!
“Did you clearly see the man’s face, or do you know his identity?”
To have accurately recognized Eagle at the Ghost Market and entrusted him with a pill for Isabella Warm suggested the man’s identity was anything but ordinary.
Very likely, he was someone close.
“Something strange.” Ian Jorden locked the door behind him and stepped forward. “Your presence in the City Lord’s Mansion is known to very few. Even Eagle, proficient in disguise and stealth, was uncovered by that man. Clearly, he’s no friend!”
“There’s one person who could manage this.” Isabella Warm did not reveal the name.
But the three present understood implicitly.
“He’s truly in Swimming City?” Ian Jorden’s expression grew complex.
“Highly likely.” Isabella glanced at Eagle. “Only a pill, no further words?”
Devlin bringing the Divine Dragon Tripod to the Unbeatable Divine Hall was already city-wide news.
But the person Isabella Warm most wanted to inform had yet to show up.
“Nothing.” Eagle shook his head.
Don’t even joke!
He wasn’t that stupid. Why would he disclose being captured and having his weapon taken?
Anyone who managed to become a Vein Holder certainly wasn’t brainless.
With this response, Isabella Warm hesitated briefly before finally reaching for the pill.
“You mustn’t!” Ian Jorden interrupted. “We don’t even know the identity of the individual. If the pill is truly poisonous, wouldn’t that be falling right into their trap?”
Something suspicious was definitely afoot!
Especially after hearing the mysterious man might be in Swimming City, Ian Jorden’s body shivered slightly.
Could it be… a reunion in Swimming City?
After years apart!
What should the first words be?
“Lord, I shouldn’t have lied to you?”
Or “I’m sorry”?
Ian Jorden couldn’t shake the thought that before he finished speaking, his head might already be rolling.
“If it were poisonous, Eagle would be dead already.” Isabella Warm reached for the pill and held it in her palm.
“This is a restorative pill!”
Having extensive experience with medicine and having once assisted Demarco Mount and Julius Reed in concocting elixirs, Isabella Warm’s knowledge in pharmacology could be considered proficient.
At first touch, she knew the pill was restorative.
But…
Why did the pill feel hollow?
Crack!
After pondering for a while, Isabella Warm gently cracked open the pill.
If it were poisonous, she’d discard it immediately.
But.
Inside the pill was no toxin, but rather a small slip of paper.
Isabella Warm frowned slightly.
What kind of ploy was this?
She extracted the paper slip and unfolded it carefully.
Inscribed upon it were ten finely written characters:
“Pendleton’s Alliance Hierarch is dead; the pill restores.”
Isabella Warm’s pupils instantly narrowed to sharp pinpoints!
“Pendleton’s Alliance Hierarch, dead?” She asked in disbelief.
“What!”
Ian Jorden was equally stunned.
That piece of news hit like a bombshell, leaving the three in the room completely blank-headed!
“Weren’t you unsuccessful in your assassination?” Ian Jorden, still recovering from the shock, asked incredulously. “Could this be misinformation?”
According to Isabella Warm’s earlier account, Andrew had defected at the last minute, leading to a failed assassination.
She hadn’t even managed to touch the Hierarch’s robes.
For someone as robust and vigorous as the Hierarch, how could he suddenly be dead?
Isabella Warm was skeptical about the note’s validity.
Perhaps it was deliberate misinformation?
“Has anyone visited Pendleton recently?” Isabella Warm turned to Ian Jorden.
The Golden Avenue fell under the jurisdiction of the City Lord’s Mansion, so finding out who’d entered Pendleton wasn’t difficult.
“I’ll have someone check immediately.” Ian Jorden called the team monitoring station, issuing instructions.
For now, he still regarded the note as a rumor.
Pendleton’s Alliance Hierarch had four impervious guards and people like Andrew, whose skills were almost unmatched. How could he possibly die?
“I truly didn’t manage to touch him—it was a failed mission.” Isabella Warm felt somewhat dejected.
No matter how she’d calculated the odds, Andrew’s betrayal had blindsided her, and he’d even attacked her.
An utter disgrace!
Soon, a reply came back over the phone.
“General Whitaker of The North Sea and the North Sea Princess recently visited Pendleton. But after they departed, General Whitaker murdered two shopkeepers at the Ghost Market and was personally captured by Lord Ghost Seven, who hung him in the plaza.”
Ian Jorden relayed all the information he had: “Recently, many disguised as vendors have delivered goods to Pendleton. Yet every time they enter, there are fewer coming out.”
“It seems highly likely this pill’s giver wasn’t lying.” Isabella Warm intended to confirm the situation.
Pendleton’s movements had been secretive, but with these notable figures converging, something was definitely amiss.
Still, she hadn’t laid a finger on the Hierarch.
How had he died?
“Andrew…” Isabella Warm seemed to realize something at last, clenching her teeth, “He’s betrayed me again!”
The four impervious guards were devoid of emotion.
The only one likely to commit betrayal would be Andrew.
“If this information proves true, then the pill-giver must be an ally,” Isabella Warm said, picking up the fragmented pill and swallowing it whole.
“You mustn’t!”
Ian Jorden tried to stop her, but it was too late.
If the pill were toxic, wouldn’t it simply cost a life in vain?
Fortunately, the pill wasn’t poisonous; rather, it restored Isabella Warm’s energy significantly.
“You mentioned General Whitaker and the Princess had visited Pendleton?”
Feeling the surge of qi within her body, Isabella Warm’s eyes gleamed with newfound vitality.
“Correct!” Ian Jorden nodded. “But the Princess was taken to the Young Family, leaving General Whitaker hanging alone in the plaza.”
“Then to the Ghost Market!” Isabella Warm suddenly rose, her voice icy. “Unveil the truth!”
