Chapter 753: Chapter 352 Magic Apprentice and City of the Alliance_2

He patted Tekatu’s shoulder, then summoned Little Gold Coin, dressed in academy-standard robe armor and leaning on a simple wooden magic wand.

“His name is ‘Brandon Ron,’ probably two years older than you. From now on, he will be your ‘senior brother.’ He is also from the Kantadar region, and once you arrive at Avalon Castle, he will guide you in learning some basic knowledge.”

After Leon finished speaking, he let Brandon take the extremely excited young Tekatu to change into some cleaner clothes, then refocused his attention on the selection work of Kovis.

Unfortunately, among the dozens of children that followed, including the dozen or so adults added to the quota, there were no more surprises.

As he watched the mayor dismiss the disappointed crowd, Leon couldn’t help but recall the counsel given by the Holy Lake Priest who unexpectedly visited after the selection work in Avalon Castle area had concluded.

The priest, seeing him searching far and wide for spellcasters, specifically came to suggest that it would be best to establish a ‘Magic Ring’ organization, similar to the Holy Sun Church, to oversee the mental domain of spellcasters.

This priest himself was a Magic Ring Cultivator, someone who had undergone years of faith trials, and he was willing to help Avalon Academy in this aspect, or alternatively, to avoid suspicion, to contact the nearest Seryan Diocese and have the church send advisors to help build the Magic Ring at Avalon Castle.

Although the Holy Lake Priest, being a spellcaster himself, and despite the Holy Lake Sect being seen by the Holy Sun Church as a nearly heretical sect, shared a very similar vigilance towards Wild Mages not from the Magic Ring, just like the Holy Sun Church.

With the disaster brewed by Mage Athias, and their previous disturbances in Orland, Leon did indeed consider the Holy Lake Priest’s suggestion.

Yet, in that other life path, with his experience of having managed the Northern Wizard Association, Leon hesitated. If managed properly, perhaps there was no need to be so extreme in his attitude towards mages. At least in that life path, the Wizard Association was not as rebellious as it is now.

Moreover, at least as it appears now, this concern is premature. Even including today’s discovery of this young talent, the academy currently only has two apprentices, two part-time Kantadar Wild Mages, and with the ancient Lorelette knowledge heritage of himself and Kovis, there are merely six members in total.

Leon shook his head inwardly, hoping to mold the minds of future mages under his command through years of education and guidance.

Besides, if the important forces under his command all became ardent believers of the Holy Sun and the Holy Prophet, in the event of any future friction between Avalon Castle and the church, would the academy’s mages listen to Saint Illaril or to him, the dean?

Suppressing this concern which was not yet urgent, Leon met with Tekatu’s parents, inviting this farmer family to settle in a town outside Avalon Castle, promising to assign them a relatively prosperous piece of land to improve their living conditions.

Tekatu’s parents, naturally, joyfully accepted.

With an itch in his heart, fearing any fish that might have slipped through the net, Leon took over from the weary Acro and independently tested Tekatu’s parents with the instrument.

However, just as the ancient research results in the magic guidebooks concluded thousands of years ago, magical talent has no direct relation to bloodline inheritance. The boy’s parents were just two ordinary people without any magical aptitude. Every qualified individual is a miraculous result of natural random combination at the moment of birth.

After finishing the selection, Leon immediately arranged for Brandon and a few cavalrymen to escort the only found Magic Apprentice and his family back to Avalon Castle, then led his knights out of the Baron Domain, setting off towards the Sobonitz region in the southeast.

The main knight order, which had set off earlier, under the leadership of Olivia, Azeryan, and Lokhak, had likely already reached Baldim County over half a month ago. However, he and Kovis, in searching for the magic apprentices within the domain, had lingered in Glade County until today.

The group galloped swiftly, unimpeded without any delays, taking only a few days to reach the outskirts of Finlidun City efficiently.

This city, already assigned under the governance of Baron Yevan and serving as the Holy War Alliance headquarters, had recuperated over two years, with no traces of the Undead War remaining.

From afar, visible on the towering walls above the city gate, a blue banner emblazoned with the emblem of a sideways Griffin grasping a Thorny Sword in its beastly claw hung aloft.

This had been collectively chosen as the emblem of the Holy War Alliance post-war.

As they rode forward, before nearing the city walls, a welcoming party poured forth from the wide open gates of the Alliance City.

Leading them was Baron Yevan, whose face, while still youthful, bore a gaze now steady and weathered.

There are five supreme member seats within the Holy War Alliance established post-war.

They are: oneself continuing as the ‘Marshal of the Holy War Army’, Princess Ines fulfilling the role of Deputy Commander, the ‘Great Commander’.

Baron Shatai Yevan serving as Acting Principal, the ‘Arbitrator’.

Additionally, two ‘Governor’ seats held respectively by Count Lunaf of the Baldim family and Sir David, representing the Thorny Flower main family’s army.

Rebuilding the extensive Sobonitz Domain, with numerous affairs within the Widespread Eastern Kantadar Great Domain, Leon and Ines, having other territorial matters to address, though not entirely relinquishing responsibility, Leon frequently used the Griffin for swift travel to and from Sobonitz to solve disputes and problematic events.

Nevertheless, over the past two years, a lot of the burdens of the Alliance fell more upon the shoulders of Baron Yevan, stationed on the front line at Finlidun.

Yet it proved to be a correct decision to nominate him to orchestrate the military and political affairs of the alliance, as the conclusion of the Undead War, with no longer an inhuman enormous threat, and once the vast Eastern Kantadar territory had been divided, some surviving lords indeed began harboring their own ambitions.

The Mamor Family eagerly pushed northward, attempting to utilize the Alliance’s strength to reclaim lost lands.

Several former Eastern nobles showed signs of contact with King Caso of the Ustato Kingdom, and quite a few nobles who had escaped to the west returned to their old lands, clashing and disputing with the lords post-war.

Cases like these, though actionable through his great renown for ending the Undead Magic Disaster, still, as a Lord of Orland and a Seryan, frequently meddling directly with internal disputes of the Kantadar people would invisibly consume the reputation he had accumulated.

As for Count Lunaf of the Baldim County, frankly speaking, Leon did not completely trust him. Though contributing considerably during the Undead War, he neither exhibited enough leadership nor often led by example, his renown plain.

Regarding Sir David, though courageous in battle, his administrative ability was far inferior to his elder brother’s, and besides, he was preoccupied with finding his father and had little interest in governing the Alliance’s affairs.

Baron Yevan, as a young noble native to the Kantadar people, with his consistent character, courage, and, most importantly…the mutual respect, friendship, and a sense of partnership, became the ideal mediator in handling internal Alliance affairs.

With two detachments including himself, Yevan and the trusted old comrades exchanged greetings as Leon’s gaze wandered to the sword at Yevan’s waist, a sword he had once gifted him; the “War Oath”, now one of the sacred artifacts symbolizing the victory in the Undead War for the Alliance.

As they walked into Finlidun City, looking around, Leon couldn’t help feeling a surge of emotions, reminiscing the scenes filled with courage and camaraderie.
