Knights and Magic Wand -
Chapter 746: 349 Exploring Summoning
Chapter 746: Chapter 349 Exploring Summoning
In the afternoon, the solitude of Avalon Castle’s outskirts was shattered by units of fully-armed Steel Armor Knights.
Hundreds of Lion Wing Knights and Crow Wing Knights sealed off the forest perimeter after the leader of the knight order entered the dense woods, strictly preventing any disturbance by ordinary people.
The Death Claw circled the sky, its sharp eagle eyes monitoring every movement in the surroundings, and the might of the Griffin made even the smallest birds avoid this area.
Positioned within layers of guards, Leon urged Kovis to prepare the materials, then immediately wielded Garner to cast the spell.
The alchemy solution in the center of the clearing quickly spread under the spellcasters’ direction, inscribing and outlining the complex array demon runes of the summoning ritual on the ground.
A gentle shake of the magic wand solidified the liquid-metal-like solution, and Kovis, assisting on the side, raised his hand immediately, levitating Count Eriv’s symbolic possessions and personal items of the past, placing them into the nodes of the ritual demon runes.
The Pseudo-Thorn Blade was placed in the center.
The dagger Eriv once used, old clothes over the years, the seal ring… even the token headband once gifted to Lady Adelina, all were categorized by symbolic properties and settled in specific positions.
All these items used as the ritual base were borrowed in advance from a visit to Lady Adelina.
The process of asking was smooth, using the excuse of employing Count Eriv’s personal items to cast magic to seek his whereabouts, Lady Adelina, upon hearing there might be a chance to find her husband, was instantly overjoyed and, without any hesitation, brought out all her husband’s old items she could find.
Leon selected the most core symbolic items from these, even persuading Adelina not to impulsively send someone to Arche’s Castle to fetch more belongings.
Such intense longing from the other party made Leon’s mood inevitably heavy at this moment.
May everything go smoothly….
Staring at the well-prepared summoning ritual, Leon pulled out a vacant black Netti card from his pocket and slowly focused to chant spells, initiating the fourth attempt to summon wandering souls after Galron, Canis, and Callisto.
The magic element surged within, and the demon rune blossomed with brilliant light.
Amid the rising winds and gathering clouds, the daytime environment around, in Leon’s perception, gradually turned chaotic as if ink had spilled over — the familiar feeling of a soul descending struck again, and his consciousness seemed to pierce through the veil of the material world, falling into a bottomless abyss…
However, it was unclear whether a long time passed or merely a moment, this time, not even encountering that horrifying indescribable giant in the void, Leon’s consciousness gradually regained awareness of the reality before his eyes.
The light of the summoning array in front had already extinguished.
The once solidified demon rune reverted to alchemy solution, evaporating amidst high heat.
The Pseudo-Thorn Blade and numerous old items of the count, serving as the ritual base, remained unchanged in their original place.
Failed….
This was his first summoning failure.
It was not that something went wrong with the spellcasting process, but the ritual base’s pulling could not locate the target’s trace at all.
He put away the hand gesture with the Netti card, looking at the empty crystal card surface surrounded by white mist in his hand.
According to David, witnessing his father’s final battle scene, Eriv undoubtedly suffered a fatal wound impossible to survive.
Yet, following the relic’s direction to fall into the Dead Sea, he could not find his wandering soul.
According to magical theory, even if a soul is shattered, there should still be fragments in the Dead Sea.
Does this indicate… Count Eriv is still not dead?
At least currently, his soul has not submerged into the Dead Sea.
A man was killed yet did not die.
Then Eriv’s situation is either his soul being magically imprisoned in the Mortal World.
Or he has been transformed into a kind similar to those Vampires.
Leon couldn’t help but pinch the bridge of his nose.
Whether it’s death in battle, soul imprisonment, or vampire transformation, none of them are good.
However, it can now be confirmed that continuing to track southward the trail of “Baron Chaleman” and his vampire army is certainly not in vain.
He pondered as he stepped forward, retrieving and properly storing Count Eriv’s relics with Kovis, yet he did not hurry to leave.
Apart from Eriv, Leon still had other wandering souls he wanted to attempt summoning.
He still remembered the promise he made when incorporating those soldiers who knew of Canis’s death into the guard.
These guards followed him through battles south and north, fighting bravely until they fell heroically on the hellish battlefield of Rolannar, never betraying the oaths made when pledging loyalty.
Now, it was time for him, as their lord, to fulfill his promise to his loyal and brave subordinates.
Kovis poured another portion of alchemy solution onto the ground, then returned beside Leon, tapping the golden single eye on his brow, and immediately held Leon’s wrist, injecting abundant chaos magic into Leon’s body.
With magic recharged, Leon perked up, casting anew to spread the ritual demon rune on the clearing.
Acro turned around, placing the armor and weapons used by a fallen guard during his sacrifice into the array, and along with the relics, the casket containing the body floated into the ritual.
Once Leon was ready, he commenced another summoning.
On the clearing in the forest, waves of light reappeared.
Yet…. as the spell persisted for a long time, the magical light gradually extinguished.
Leon opened his eyes, sweating and frowning at the empty card in his hand.
….Failed again.
But unlike the attempt to summon Count Eriv, this attempt differed significantly.
Leon already sensed himself descending deep into the Sea of Nothingness… but apart from countless resentful souls rushing towards his consciousness, he couldn’t find the wandering souls indicated by the ritual.
Is it because the guard’s reputations are still not sufficient to leave a trace in the River of Time?
Are their names still not ingrained deep and widespread enough?
Leon pondered, seemingly having no other reasons left.
Although the Holy War Knights’ last battle following him in the Cursed Domain became widely known.
Throughout this past year, he had spent a lot of money hiring poets to compose songs and stories, spreading the tales of the sacrificers’ heroic crusades against the Undead Army and Demons across various places.
But no matter how the fame is spread, the number of sacrificed Holy War Knights was still too many.
Their heroic acts, though admirable, included so many names that hoping each one would be deeply etched in most people’s ears is clearly wishful thinking.
Perhaps in their respective homelands, the locals would remember the deeds of the Holy War Knights born from their regions.
But the reputation of a village or town… cruelly put, no matter how they are remembered by their hometown folks now, they will eventually be drowned in the waves of the River of Time.
Maybe before the Undead War, knights who already had a reputation for bravery had a chance, like Canis, to be summoned individually.
But as for those guards of humble origin, despite their rapid growth in one battle after another, their brilliance still shone too briefly.
Those guards didn’t even have the chance to create their own legends before they perished in brutal bloodshed.
